OBJECTIVES: Pediatric patients with in-remission inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) often report persistent gastrointestinal symptoms, suggesting a potential overlap with disorders of gut-brain-interaction (DGBIs). While DGBIs affect up to 40% of the general population, their prevalence in quiescent IBD children remains limited. We aimed to evaluate the prevalence and distribution of DGBIs, based on Rome-IV criteria, in children with quiescent IBD compared to healthy controls, identifying demographic, clinical and therapeutic factors associated with DGBIs.
METHODS: In this multicenter, prospect

BACKGROUND: Functional dyspepsia (FD), a disorder of the gut-brain interaction (DGBI), can result in restricted eating habits with associated weight loss. Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Field Stimulation (PENFS), a minimally invasive non-pharmacologic approach, can improve abdominal pain and psychological functioning in children with DGBI. We aimed to analyze changes in anthropometric measures, nutritional intake, and clinical outcomes with PENFS.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed charts of patients with FD (9-28 years) who restricted oral intake and underwent PENFS. We analyzed validated q

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are drugs whose main effect is catalytic and long-lasting suppression of gastric acid secretion, with an anti-inflammatory effect. The main indications for PPIs use include the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, functional dyspepsia, Barrett esophagus, eosinophilic esophagitis, and hypersecretory diseases such as gastrinoma and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Their contribution to eradication therapy for Helicobacter pylori is also important. However, the long-term use of PPIs has been associated with various adverse drug reactions and

AIM: Acupuncture has been used for the treatment of functional dyspepsia (FD); however, its effects remain uncertain. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for FD using systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials (RCTs).
METHODS: We searched six databases and two trial registries up to March 13, 2025. Paired reviewers screened literature, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias. We performed meta-analyses using random-effects models and assessed the certainty of the evidence using GRADE approach.
RESULTS: We included 23 RCTs (2,454 participants). Compar

Background/Objectives: Accumulating evidence and clinical observations suggest that the gut microbiome plays a crucial role in functional dyspepsia (FD). However, the precise characterization of this relationship is unclear. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to elucidate the potential role of the gut microbiome in FD based on evidence from published clinical studies. Methods: A comprehensive search of three databases (PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science) was conducted, and 17 relevant clinical studies, including 8 observational studies and 9 interventional studies, publishe

BACKGROUND: A hypersensitivity reaction has been hypothesized as one of the possible pathophysiological mechanisms involved in non-celiac wheat sensitivity (NCWS). Some studies have reported a high frequency of atopic diseases in NCWS patients.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed (A) to define the presence and features of atopic diseases and other hypersensitivities in NCWS patients and (B) to search for possible allergic features which could address a NCWS diagnosis.
METHODS: Clinical, laboratory and histological data from NCWS patients before the start of a wheat-free diet were retrospectively an

PURPOSE: The rising antibiotic resistance has significantly reduced the efficacy of standard bismuth-based quadruple therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections, particularly in patients with multiple eradication failures. This study evaluates a novel non-antibiotic triple therapy comprising Weisu granules, berberine hydrochloride, and Bio-Three-a probiotic formulation containing Clostridium butyricum TO-A, Enterococcus faecalis T-110, and Bacillus mesentericus TO-A-in treating H. pylori-positive functional dyspepsia (FD) patients resistant to conventional antibiotic treatments.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the predictive accuracy of a machine learning-based herbal medicine response prediction algorithm in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD). In a preliminary clinical study, the algorithm was developed using the XGBoost regressor framework to predict the relative effect sizes of three commonly prescribed herbal formulations-Yijung-tang (Lizhong-tang), Pyeongwi-san (Pingwei-san), and Shihosogan-tang (Chaihu Shugan-tang). The prediction system recommends the formulation expected to yield the greatest therapeutic benefit for each individual.

UNLABELLED: Drug-induced dyspepsia (DID) represents an often overlooked cause of upper gastrointestinal (GI) discomfort in children, frequently mimicking functional dyspepsia or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This review synthesizes current evidence on the diagnosis and management of pediatric DID, integrating expert consensus and available clinical data. Accurate diagnosis of pediatric DID depends on a thorough medication history, covering prescription, over-the-counter (OTC), and supplement use, alongside symptom correlation with drug exposure. Standardized tools such as the EMPACIP

BACKGROUND: Previous clinical studies have demonstrated that transcutaneous auricular vagal nerve stimulation (taVNS) alleviates functional dyspepsia (FD) symptoms. But the underlying brain functional mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the brain modulation effects of taVNS treating FD by using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI).
METHOD: Twenty-one patients with FD and 30 healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled. The FD subjects (FDs) were treated by taVNS and conducted with brain fMRI scans before and after 8-week treatment, HCs underwent one fMRI sc

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Functional dyspepsia (FD) represents a common functional gastrointestinal disorder with pathogenic mechanisms involving gut-brain axis dysfunction and intestinal dysbiosis. Homovanillic acid (HVA), the terminal metabolite of dopamine, has been recently identified as being regulated by gut microbiota with consequent effects on neurological function. This study aimed to investigate whether post-eradication fecal homovanillic acid levels are associated with long-term symptom improvement and inflammatory marker changes in patients with Helicobacter pylori-associated funct

BACKGROUND: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a disorder of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), while gastroparesis (GP) is a motility disorder with overlapping upper gastrointestinal symptoms, including epigastric pain, postprandial fullness, early satiation, nausea, and vomiting, although their relative prevalence differs between conditions. First-line therapies, such as proton pump inhibitors and Helicobacter pylori eradication, often provide limited relief, prompting interest in alternative, mechanism-based treatments.
AIM: To review the literature on the use of predominantly central and predominant

INTRODUCTION: Dietary factors, including fermentable oligo-, di-, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs), have been implicated in symptom generation among patients with functional dyspepsia (FD). Accordingly, a low-FODMAP diet (LFD) has been proposed as a potential therapeutic approach. However, no systematic review has yet been conducted. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of an LFD on gastrointestinal symptoms and quality of life (QoL) in patients with FD.
METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, Medline, Embase, and Central were searched through October 2025. Studies involving adults or

BACKGROUND: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common disorder of gut-brain interaction characterized by postprandial distress and epigastric pain, which significantly impairs quality of life and increases healthcare burden. Although the Rome IV criteria and Japanese guidelines have refined its definition, the pathophysiology remains multifactorial, involving gastric motility abnormalities, visceral hypersensitivity, and autonomic dysfunction. Traditional diagnostic approaches, mainly based on clinical history and exclusion of organic diseases, are limited in elucidating the underlying mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: Limited research has evaluated national medical expenditures associated with pediatric disorders of gut-brain interaction (DGBI), despite the high prevalence of these disorders in children and their association with reduced quality of life.
METHODS: We used data from the 2017-2022 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) to estimate the individual- and national-level outpatient, office-based, prescribed medication, emergency room, inpatient, and other medical expenditures, and overall expenditures associated with pediatric DGBI. Pediatric DGBI included International Classification

Overlapping pathophysiological mechanisms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, and functional dyspepsia often limit the symptom-based diagnosis precision. Additionally, the easy availability of over-the-counter proton pump inhibitors has increased the instances of self-diagnosis and self-treatment in the Indian population. Prolonged, unsupervised use of acid suppressants may reduce the treatment efficacy and increase the risk of adverse effects, such as infections and nutrient deficiencies. Therefore, a task force of 13 leading gastroenterologists under the Society for Cli
