Complicated appendicular diverticulitis.

Appendiceal diverticulitis, a frequently underdiagnosed entity, differs from typical appendicitis by the presence of an inflamed appendiceal diverticulum. Appendiceal diverticulitis is a surgical emergency which has an increased risk of perforation compared to typical appendicitis. We will discuss a surgically and pathologically confirmed case of complicated appendiceal diverticulitis and its management implications.

Appendix diverticulosis in a patient diagnosed on pathology after laparoscopic appendectomy for appendicular mucinous mass-case report and literature review.

Diverticulum of the appendix is uncommon cause of right iliac fossa pain and inflammation with delayed diagnosis and high risk of complications, as it mimics acute appendicitis. Here we present a case of an elderly male patient who had lung cancer post-treatment. During the follow-up, appendicle lesion was discovered and suspected to be mucinous appendix. The pathology reported after appendectomy as appendicular diverticulosis without evidence of malignancy. As appendicular diverticulum is best confirmed by pathology, still its clinical presentation is difficult to be distinguished from other

A case of diverticulum of the appendiceal base resembling a submucosal tumor of the cecum under colonoscopy: a hitherto undescribed lesion.

BACKGROUND: Diverticulosis of the appendix is an uncommon clinical entity, and a preoperative diagnosis is often difficult. Herein we report an unusual case of appendiceal diverticulosis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 72-year-old male was referred to our hospital to examine the cause of hematochezia. A colonoscopy study showed a protruding lesion resembling a submucosal tumor (SMT), approximately 20 mm in diameter, at the site around the appendiceal orifice of the cecum. An abdominal computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a cystic lesion at the appendiceal base. The lesion was clini

A rare triad of appendiceal diverticula, appendiceal carcinoid, and colonic diverticula.

Appendiceal diverticulosis is a rare finding associated with appendiceal neoplasms. Both can masquerade as appendicitis in patients and are overlooked in differentials of right upper quadrant pain. A 37-year-old African American female presented with appendicitis-like symptoms to the emergency room with fever and leukocytosis. Appendectomy was performed with pathological evaluation revealing coexisting appendiceal diverticula and carcinoid of the appendix with lymphovascular invasion and mesoappendiceal involvement. In line with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines, right hemic

A rare case of appendiceal tip complete attachment to a sigmoid diverticulum: An appendiceal phlegmon case report.

INTRODUCTION: Appendiceal phlegmon is defined as an inflammatory mass, consisting of the inflamed appendix, enclosed by adjacent viscera and the greater omentum in 2 % to 10 % of patients with acute appendicitis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 24-year-old female presented to the hospital with chief complaints of fever, nausea, vomiting, and pain over the right lower quadrant of the abdomen for two days. In the local examination, tenderness and rebound tenderness were detected. Ultrasonography and abdominal CT scan indicated appendiceal phlegmon. After seven weeks of receiving a course of antibiotics wi

Staging of appendiceal mucinous neoplasms: challenges and recent updates.

Low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms are unique tumors of the appendix, characterized by low-grade mucinous epithelium with villiform, undulating, or flat architecture. These tumors lack infiltrative growth or destructive invasion, but can extend into the appendiceal wall by a "pushing" pattern of invasion, with a broad front that can mimic a diverticulum. These neoplasms have a propensity for peritoneal dissemination, resulting in the clinical presentation of pseudomyxoma peritonei. The pathologic staging of these neoplasms is challenging and fraught with confusing terminology and numerou

A Case of a Rare, Incidental Discovery of Fibrous Obliteration of an Appendiceal Diverticulum.

Diverticulosis of the appendix (DA) is rare and frequently found incidentally. Some cases are discovered after presenting with similar symptomatology to acute appendicitis, whereas other cases may be completely silent. Fibrous obliteration (FO) is a histologic finding indicative of cellular proliferation secondary to relapses of subclinical inflammatory processes. We report a case of a 75-year-old female with a history of chronic, intermittent abdominal pains who presented to the general surgery clinic after an abnormal thickening of the appendix was discovered on abdominal and pelvic computed

Reno-appendiceal fistula in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.

We present a very rare Case of a 53-year-old female with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) who was incidentally found to have a reno-appendiceal fistula while undergoing open bilateral nephrectomy. The mid-portion of the appendix was fistulized to a cyst in the lower pole of the right kidney. The etiology was likely due to chronic inflammation. An appendectomy was performed along with the planned right nephrectomy to ensure complete removal of the fistulous tract.

A fecalith mimicking a bladder calculus secondary to an appendicovesical fistula: a case report.

An appendicovesical fistula is defined as an abnormal communication between the appendix and the urinary bladder, with only a few cases reported in the literature. It is very challenging to make an early diagnosis, due to the inability of conventional imaging modalities to detect this unique pathology. The symptoms are often mild, and there are not any specific signs or symptoms that might suggest this type of anomalous communication. We report a case of a 27-year-old male patient who presented difficulty for initiating urination, dysuria, and persistent urinary tract infections. An abdominal

Enterocutaneous fistula resulting from the drainage of a contained appendiceal perforation secondary to a partially obstructing low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm.

We report a case of an enterocutaneous fistula resulting from drainage of a contained appendiceal perforation secondary to an obstructing appendiceal mucinous neoplasm. A 66-year-old otherwise healthy female patient proceeded to laparoscopic appendicectomy with resection of the fistula tract. Histopathology demonstrated a mid-appendiceal mucinous neoplasm, with a benign enterocutaneous fistula tract communicating with the distal, non-malignant portion of the appendix. We provide an overview of the literature and highlight the need to consider appendiceal mucinous neoplasm as a differential in

Bilateral congenital inguinal hernia with right-sided Amyand's hernia in a premature twin: Case report and a summary of clinical presentations, management and outcomes in neonates and infants with Amyand's hernia.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Congenital hernias occur 70% on the right side, 25% on the left side, and approximately 5% bilaterally. The finding of a congenital Amyand's hernia is of interest, especially in patients who do not present risk factors associated with connective tissue disorders, ascitic conditions, fetal developmental disorders or any condition that increases abdominal pressure. CASE PRESENTATION: Male patient, 6 months old, was brought to the pediatric surgery department due to a visible mass in the bilateral inguinal region, which protruded with crying. The parents report that

Effective use of CT by surgeons in acute appendicitis diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis (AA) still maintains its prominence among general surgical emergencies, and the risk of developing AA is 8.6% for men and 6.7% for women. The clinical diagnosis of acute appendicitis has a rate of approximately 20% false positive and false-negative. Ultrasound (US) and Computed Tomography (CT) are the imaging methods most utilized in this field. The present study aims to determine the relationship between the evaluation results of the clinician who examined the patient and the radiologist's evaluation in the evaluation of cross-sectional imaging tests for the dia

Multifocal in situ mantle cell neoplasia of the ileocecal region: a case report with simultaneous nodal and extranodal involvement.

In situ mantle cell neoplasia (ISMCN) is a rare entity of disputed clinical significance. We report an additional case, unusual by its presentation in the large intestine and its multifocal involvement of several nodal and extranodal sites. The diagnosis was made in a 46-year-old male patient from a surgical specimen resected for cecal adenocarcinoma. Gross examination showed multiple small polypoid lesions surrounding the ileocecal valve, corresponding to lymphoid aggregates with hyperplastic follicles. Numerous cyclin D1/SOX11+ lymphoid cells, harboring the t(11;14)(q13;q32) translocation, w
