We present the first documented case of a fistula between the treated zone and the appendix after RFA in a patient with HCC. Contrast-enhanced CT and MRI revealed a subcapsular hepatic nodule with image findings of HCC located adjacent to the ascending colon and cecum. An ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy was subsequently performed to distinguish between hepatic metastasis and HCC. Post-RFA imaging identified a low-attenuating ablated area adjacent to an air-filled appendix. The patient later experienced complications, including increased liver enzymes and an abscess at the ablation site. I

Adult ileocecal intussusception due to non-specific inflammation is a rare condition. Intussusception is the intestinal segment telescoping into the adjacent intestinal lumen. Typically, a pathological lesion is discovered with a high percentage of malignancy. Intussusception of the most common ileocolic kind includes the appendix, but it is uncommon for an appendix to serve as the lead point. The patient was admitted to the emergency department with a complaint of acute intestinal obstruction. After getting a diagnostic workup, an exploratory laparotomy was done, and the ileocecal and ascendi

INTRODUCTION: Invasive appendiceal adenocarcinoma is rare. We describe the first reported case of appendiceal adenocarcinoma invading the psoas muscle in a 27-year-old man.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient presented with lower right quadrant pain, persisting since the last two months. Computed tomography revealed a retroperitoneal mass with a central calcified focus in the right iliac fossa, with a mass effect on the adjacent iliopsoas muscle and apparent invasion of the cecal wall.
CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Magnetic resonance imaging showed a retrocecal appendicular mass with central necrosis. Col

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Intussusception is an intestinal invagination of one bowel segment into another. It occurs mostly in children, but it can show in adults due to different etiologies. Appendiceal neoplasms are rare and can mimic an acute onset of appendicitis. Appendiceal mucinous neoplasm is one of the subtypes of appendiceal malignancies found in less than 1 % of appendectomies samples.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 32-year-old woman with abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant, whose computed tomography revealed an ileocolic intussusception and a low-density tub

BACKGROUND: Acute appendicitis is the most common emergency requiring surgical intervention in general surgery. Negative appendectomy is defined as the removal of a pathologically normal appendix.
AIM: In this study, we aimed to show our negative appendectomy rate.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was carried out among 2990 patients who were operated on for appendicitis between 2015-2020 at the Health Sciences University, İstanbul Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training, and Research Hospital. Accrual and historical records of the patients were analyzed using NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical Syste

Appendicitis is the most common cause of the acute abdomen and usually occurs because of the fecalith in adults and lymphoid hyperplasia in childhood. Gastric cancer metastasis to the appendix is a rare condition that might be present with symptoms of acute appendicitis. The English literature describes only thirteen cases of gastric carcinoma metastasizing to the appendix and presenting as acute appendicitis. In this report, we describe the first case of metastatic signet ring cell carcinoma of appendix presenting with clinical features of acute appendicitis.

OBJECTIVE: Enterobius vermicularis is a common gastrointestinal parasite. Acute appendicitis is one of the most common clinical conditions requiring surgical intervention. The coexistence of enterobiasis and acute appendicitis has attracted the attention of researchers for a long time. In this article, it is aimed to present the characteristics of enterobiasis cases detected in appendectomy specimens in a tertiary healthcare institution. In addition, it is aimed to reveal the differences by comparing the cases diagnosed with acute appendicitis without enterobiasis.
METHODS: All cases operated

INTRODUCTION: Acute appendicitis is a common health problem mainly due to a lumen obstruction. The obstruction is mainly due to fecal material, lymphoid hyperplasia or parasites. Foreign bodies and especially seeds have been rarely reported as causes of acute appendicitis and account for less than 1% of the different causes.
CASE REPORT: The authors described a rare case of acute appendicitis caused by seed and causing diagnostic challenge with the most frequent parasites observed in the appendix lumen. Different arguments were gathered to rule out enterobius vermicularis, taenia species, asc

BACKGROUND/AIM: Lymphoid follicles hyperplasia (LH) is sometimes observed in the normal colon as small, round, yellowish-white nodules. LH is associated with food hypersensitivity and bowel symptoms and histologically characterized as intense infiltration of lymphocytes or plasmacytes. It is suggested that LH represents inflammatory immune response in the colonic mucosa. We investigated the presence of LH in the normal colonic mucosa and its association with incidence of colorectal lesions including colorectal cancer, adenoma and hyperplastic polyp.
PATIENTS/METHODS: 605 participants undergoi

Mucinous cystic tumors of low malignant potential (MCTLMP) are rare urachal neoplasms. The morphological characteristics and clinical prognosis of MCTLMP is similar to that of mucinous cystic tumors occurring in the ovary and appendix. After complete resection, almost no cases of recurrence or metastasis have been reported. Because MCTLMP is rare, it may be missed in the clinic. MCTLMP can lead to the formation of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), which manifests as the widespread production of mucus in the abdominal cavity and makes the disease complex or difficult to diagnose. At present, only 3

Congenital diverticulum of the appendix as well as diverticulitis of the vermiform appendix remain a rare, mainly retrospective diagnosis, reported by the pathologist, post-appendicectomy. In clinical practice, however, it is important to be aware of this entity, the different types, diagnosis, association with malignancy and treatment options. We are presenting a young female case of pathologically proved true diverticulum of the appendix with associated uncomplicated appendicitis and an overview of the literature.

BACKGROUND: The symptoms of stricturing diverticulitis can overlap with those of colorectal cancer. Additionally, the stricture itself may mask a "hidden" colorectal cancer. We aimed to describe the demographics, operative details and outcomes, including occult colorectal cancer, in a cohort of consecutive resections for presumed diverticular strictures.
METHODS: In this single-center, retrospective cohort study, all patients undergoing resection for a presumed diverticular stricture between January 2010 and December 2015 were included. Preoperative imaging and colonoscopies were individually

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Appendiceal diverticulitis (AD) represents a rare cause of acute abdomen. Diagnosis of AD is a challenge because of its rarity and resemblance to other ileocecal diseases like as cecal diverticulitis (CD) and acute appendicitis (AA). Preoperative imaging can be useful to aid diagnosis. Surgery represents the correct treatment of AD.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old Caucasian male presented to the Emergency Department with a two-day history of right lower quadrant (RLQ) abdominal pain and fever. Physical examination revealed RLQ abdominal pain and rebound tendernes

BACKGROUND: Appendiceal bleeding is very rare, accounting for about 0.4% of all lower gastrointestinal bleeding. We present a case of laparoscopic appendectomy in a patient with a diagnosis of appendiceal bleeding.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 71-year-old man came to our hospital with a complaint of bloody stools. He had progressive anemia and persistent fresh bloody stools, so he underwent lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Active bleeding was confirmed from the orifice of the appendix, but the bleeding could not be stopped even with clips, so an emergency laparoscopic appendectomy was performed. His

INTRODUCTION: Amyand's hernia with an inflamed or perforated appendix is rare with incidence of 0.1 % and 0.01 % of cases respectively. It has been described in conjunction with cecal perforation, cholecystitis and ureterolithiasis. Yet, its association with acute sigmoid diverticulitis has never been reported before.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 57-year-old male presented to the emergency department with acute abdomen and an indurated right inguinal mass. A preoperative computed tomography (CT) scan reported a giant inflamed sigmoid diverticulum and an Amyand's hernia with a complicated appendici

Small-bowel diverticulosis is rare. We report the case of a male with an acute abdomen secondary to an ileal diverticulum. A 46-year-old male complained of progressive abdominal pain over 24 hours of evolution in the left flank. On physical examination, we found abdominal pain in the left flank and mesogastrium, tenderness, and signs of peritonitis. The simple abdominal CT showed a heterogeneous tubular image in the small bowel. We performed a diagnostic laparoscopy and found a normal cecal appendix. There was no free abdominal fluid or adhesions, and the colon was without diverticula. We foun

Appendicular diverticulitis (AD) is a rare entity characterized by the inflammation of the arising diverticulum of the appendix. It has been reported to carry a high risk of perioperative complications, such as bleeding and perforation. Furthermore, multiple articles have highlighted the importance of diagnosing AD early due to its strong association with malignancies. Limited published cases concerning AD in our country and globally are available in the literature. Hence, we present in this article a case series of five exciting cases of incidental findings of AD that were initially diagnosed
