A critically ill patient with septicemic plague and peripheral gangrene was treated successfully with ciprofloxacin. There are no previous reports of plague being successfully treated with ciprofloxacin. Peripheral gangrene of this patient's feet was managed with use of sympathetic blockade; the patient's toes appear to have been saved by this approach.

BACKGROUND: Hairy Cell Leukemia (HCL) is an uncommon, indolent lymphoproliferative disorder of mature B lymphoid cells, accounting for 2% of all lymphoid tumors. The present study evaluated the clinical-hematological profile of HCL patients diagnosed at a single tertiary care center over a 11-year period.
METHODS: The retrospective observational study was done between October 2010 and September 2021. The relevant clinical and laboratory information were retrieved from hospital medical records and electronic databases. The statistical analysis was performed using version 23.0 of SPSS.

In the period from January 1995 until December 2000, 272 horses underwent a laparotomy for gastrointestinal disorders. The results of these surgeries were evaluated. Noma neonatorum was suggested as a distinct entity characterized by a gangrenous process of the nose, oral cavity, eyelids and perineum that was almost universally fatal in premature infants with Pseudomonas sepsis. We report the first case of noma neonatorum in a 26-week-gestation twin born in the United States. Our case is consistent with previous descriptions of noma neonatorum; however, we question the distinction between noma neonatorum and a neonatal presentation of ecthyma gangrenosum.
