BACKGROUND: While pharmacological treatments remain essential in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), complementary approaches such as physical activity are increasingly being explored for their potential benefits. This scoping review aimed to map and describe the types of physical activity interventions studied in individuals with IBD and applied outcome measures. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted following the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews) guidelines. Studies were included if reporting on interventions involvi

INTRODUCTION: Fatigue is a challenging symptom for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). Emerging evidence links alterations in the gut microbiome with fatigue in IBD, highlighting the potential of microbiome-targeted treatments. Our aim was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and biological effects of a multistrain probiotic supplementation on fatigue in patients with quiescent IBD.
METHODS: This multicenter, placebo-controlled, randomized controlled trial included patients with quiescent IBD, defined as being in clinical remission and a colonoscopy within 1 year which demonstrated

BACKGROUND: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a severe complication after total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) may plausibly increase this risk because of chronic systemic inflammation, intestinal barrier dysfunction, malnutrition, and exposure to immunosuppressive therapies; however, the available orthopedic literature is sparse and heterogeneous.
METHODS: This systematic review was revised in accordance with PRISMA 2020 principles and the PRISMA 2020 for Abstracts recommendations. The primary review question was whether patients with IBD undergoing total hi

Background/Objectives: Differential diagnosis between Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) can be sometimes difficult resulting in the diagnosis of unspecified inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD-U). Data suggest that IgG antibodies against integrin αvβ6 (V6 Ab) help to identify UC patients. Recent studies suggest that measuring V6 Ab serum levels may be valuable for differential diagnostic purposes. The primary objective of the study was to assess the sensitivity and specificity of V6 Ab serum-level measurement in our IBD population to differentiate between colonic/ileocolonic CD and

BACKGROUND: Fistulotomy is highly effective (> 90%) for cryptoglandular fistula-on-ano, but fistulotomy in perianal Crohn's disease (pCD) is limited due to increased risk of recurrent fistulae, diarrhea, and fecal incontinence. We hypothesized that superficial fistulotomy resulted in wound healing in most patients.
METHOD: We conducted a single-center retrospective review of adult patients with pCD who underwent fistulotomy from 1999 to 2022. Baseline characteristics, pCD characteristics, and short- and long-term surgical and functional outcomes were reported. Matched-pair Wilcoxon signed-ran

BACKGROUND: Tracheobronchitis is an uncommon pattern of airway disease and is typically caused by infection, inhalation injury, infiltrative disorders and more rarely, systemic autoimmune disease. Rarer again is the development of bronchial webbing following tracheobronchitis. The underlying aetiology is usually identified through biopsy, culture or a detailed clinical history. We present a case of cryptogenic ulcerative tracheobronchitis with bronchial webbing being successfully managed by bilateral lung transplantation that has, however, been complicated by recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Fecal microbiota, live-jslm (RBL; REBYOTA®), is the first single-dose, broad consortia, microbiota-based live biotherapeutic approved by the US Food and Drug Administration to prevent recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI) in adults following standard-of-care antimicrobials. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a common risk factor for rCDI, yet patients with IBD are often excluded from prospective trials. This subgroup analysis of PUNCH CD3-OLS (NCT03931941) evaluated the safety and efficacy of RBL in participants with rCDI and IBD.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Cross-sectional imaging techniques, including intestinal ultrasonography (IUS), computed tomography enterography (CTE), magnetic resonance enterography (MRE), are increasingly used for the evaluation of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). We aimed to systematically review literature evidence on the assessment of disease activity, and/or severity through cross-sectional imaging in IBD patients, and to offer guidance on their most effective utilization.
METHODS: We performed a systematic review of PubMed, EMBASE, and Scopus to identify citations pertaining to the assessment

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are global diseases. There is a paucity of knowledge about the burden and epidemiology of IBD in Africa. We performed a scoping review of the published literature on IBD in Africa to identify burden, risk factors, and outcomes as well as knowledge gaps.
METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted in MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science, AIM, Africa Wide, Cochrane, and ClinicalTrials.gov in November 2024. Studies were screened and selected based on predefined inclusion criteria. Data extraction was condu

OBJECTIVES: Intestinal ultrasound (IUS) is a noninvasive tool for detecting and monitoring disease activity in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Remission values for bowel wall thickness (BWT) are extrapolated from adult data. We aimed to define normal BWT in children with IBD in sustained deep remission.
METHODS: Multicenter, retrospective pediatric IUS database including children with IBD, without a history of surgery or complications, who underwent IUS after achieving sustained deep remission, defined as the absence of ulcerations on ileocolonoscopy and/or transmural healing

Hidradenitis suppurativa is an inflammatory skin disease of the pilosebaceous unit encompassing painful, recurrent, and malodorous abscesses, inflammatory nodules, dermal sinus tracts, and cicatrices. Hidradenitis suppurativa has been linked to several comorbidities, including inflammatory bowel disease, though evidence is limited by small sample sizes and possible bidirectional associations remain uncertain. A large-scale, propensity-score matched retrospective cohort study was performed using the TriNetX platform to investigate bidirectional risks between hidradenitis suppurativa and inflamm

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of fecal incontinence (FI) among patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and its associated factors is not well-studied. This research estimated the prevalence of FI in Swiss IBD patients, identified risk factors, and assessed its relationship with well-being, anxiety, and depression.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted on adult IBD patients at a Swiss clinic in Bern and Fribourg. The study excluded individuals with a stoma, J-pouch, or unspecified IBD. The survey included 53 questions on demographic and clinical variables. Logistic regression was

BACKGROUND: There is a paucity of knowledge on disease phenotype and outcome of very early-onset (VEO) inflammatory bowel disease (VEO-IBD) from recently developed and developing countries, including from Southeast Asia. We studied disease phenotype, clinical characteristics, management and outcome of VEO-IBD in South and Southeast Asian children.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We extracted data from a multicentre Asian pediatric (onset <18 years) IBD registry. VEO- and later-onset pediatric (LO-p) IBD were defined as onset of disease <6 years and ≥6 years, respectively. We excluded monogenic IBD.

Introduction Amoebiasis, caused by the protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica, remains a significant public health concern in our country due to its endemicity. It poses a unique challenge in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), where its symptoms often mimic disease flare-ups, leading to diagnostic uncertainty and potential delays in appropriate management. The overlap in clinical presentation between amoebiasis and IBD exacerbations can result in misdiagnosis or inappropriate treatment, further complicating patient outcomes. In this context, our study was designed to explore and

BACKGROUND: Low socioeconomic status is associated with disadvantages in health outcomes and delivery of medical care in patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Inequality in the utilisation of biologic treatment is largely unexplored.
AIM: To explore the potential association of socioeconomic status and time to first biologic treatment in a population-based IBD cohort.
METHODS: All 37,380 IBD incidences between 2000 and 2017 from the Danish National Patient Register were identified and linked to socioeconomic information including educational level, income and occupational status at
