Comparative Study of Subjective and Objective Analysis in Diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

Lumpy skin disease (LSD) is one of the major viral diseases still causing great economic losses among breeding flocks of Egypt. This study was designed to focus light on non-cutaneous lesions (prevalence, intensity, and impacts) among necropsied LSD infected cattle. We selected some dairy and beef flocks (Frisian breed) located in 3 governorates (Sharkia, Dakahlia, and Kaloubia) in Nile delta, Egypt, in the period from January 2019 to January 2020 for our survey study. The case history of farms declared no previous vaccination of examined farms. The clinical signs, morbidity, and mortality rat

Usefulness of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging for diagnosing primary vascular ectasia in a dog.

Intranasal inflammatory polyps are commonly reported in cats but are rarely described in dogs. A pug dog was presented with chronic upper airway obstruction consistent with brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS). Computed tomographic examination of the skull revealed intranasal soft-tissue masses causing marked airflow obstruction. Surgical correction of BOAS was completed, including removal of the intranasal obstructive tissue. Histopathologic examination confirmed inflammatory polyps. Clinical signs improved markedly following surgery. This case highlights intranasal inflammatory

Cigarette Smoke Increases Risk for Colorectal Neoplasia in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease are at increased risk of colorectal neoplasia (CRN) due to mucosal inflammation. As current surveillance guidelines form a burden on patients and healthcare costs, stratification of high-risk patients is crucial. Cigarette smoke reduces inflammation in ulcerative colitis (UC) but not Crohn's disease (CD) and forms a known risk factor for CRN in the general population. Due to this divergent association, the effect of smoking on CRN in IBD is unclear and subject of this study. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, 1,386 IBD pati

[Follow-up care of sinonasal papillomas - risk factors for recurrence and malignant progression].

OBJECTIVE: Sinonasal papillomas are tumors of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. They are treated through complete resection under oncologic conditions. Two characteristics complicate follow-up: 1) frequent tumor recurrences (even many years after initial diagnosis), 2) possibility for malignant progression. This review elucidates risk factors for these two characteristics to depict "high-risk patients" for whom a closer follow-up is mandatory. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Literature was searched in Pubmed (NCBI). RESULTS: The most important risk factor for recurrence is incomplete tumor rese

Gallbladder polyps ultrasound: what the sonographer needs to know.

Gallbladder polyps are protuberances of the gallbladder wall projecting into the lumen. They are usually incidentally found during abdominal sonography or diagnosed on histopathology of a surgery specimen, with an estimated prevalence of up to 9.5% of patients. Gallbladder polyps are not mobile and do not demonstrate posterior acoustic shadowing; they may be sessile or pedunculated. Gallbladder polyps may be divided into pseudopolyps and true polyps. Pseudopolyps are benign and include cholesterolosis, cholesterinic polyps, inflammatory polyps, and localised adenomyomatosis. True gallbladder p

Diagnosis and treatment of malignant-appearing arteriovenous malformation.

Arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are most commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract, and presentation can range from asymptomatic to massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage. This case highlights a unique presentation of AVMs. During a screening colonoscopy, a 5-cm mass was discovered in the transverse colon encompassing 25% to 50% of the circumference of the lumen. Biopsies showed polypoid AVM with overlying inflammatory polyps without evidence of malignancy or dysplasia. There are many treatment options for AVM removal. In this case, since suspicion for malignancy was high, the patient underw

Hereditary inflammatory fibroid polyps caused by germline pathogenic variants in PDGFRA: Refining PDGFRA-mutation syndrome.

A 35-year-old Filipino woman presented with epigastric pain and was found to have two large jejunal and ileal inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFPs) and dozens of subcentimeter small bowel submucosal nodules. Targeted exon sequencing of PDGFRA on the resected jejunum IFP identified a variant c.1664A>G that was subsequently confirmed in the germline. Family history was striking for three relatives with confirmed IFPs, including one with small bowel intussusception on five occasions. All relatives with IFPs were confirmed to have the same PDGFRA germline likely pathogenic variant, all were female, a

Colorectal neoplasms in melanosis coli: a survey in Japan and a worldwide meta-analysis.

PURPOSE: The association between melanosis coli (MC) and colorectal neoplasms remains unclear. Thus, we primarily aimed to clarify the epidemiology of MC in the Japanese population, identify the relationship between the use of anthranoids and MC, and determine the prevalence of detected intestinal lesions in patients with MC. We subsequently conducted a meta-analysis of published data, including our results, to summarize the influence of MC on the prevalence of colonic neoplasms. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective survey in Japan to investigate the effects of MC on intestinal disorders. Th

Treatment of pouchitis, Crohn's disease, cuffitis, and other inflammatory disorders of the pouch: consensus guidelines from the International Ileal Pouch Consortium.

Pouchitis, Crohn's disease of the pouch, cuffitis, polyps, and extraintestinal manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease are common inflammatory disorders of the ileal pouch. Acute pouchitis is treated with oral antibiotics and chronic pouchitis often requires anti-inflammatory therapy, including the use of biologics. Aetiological factors for secondary pouchitis should be evaluated and managed accordingly. Crohn's disease of the pouch is usually treated with biologics and its stricturing and fistulising complications can be treated with endoscopy or surgery. The underlying cause of cuffitis

Inflammatory myoglandular polyp as a cause of recurrent abdominal pain in a patient with quiescent Crohn's disease.

Chronic inflammation of the intestinal mucosa has been associated with the appearance of inflammatory polyps or pseudopolyps. Among the distinct categories of inflammatory polyps are inflammatory myoglandular polyps (IMGP) usually found in the colorectum. Only one case of IMGP in the terminal ileus has been described since their first description. We report the first case of an inflammatory polyp with both hyperplastic and myoglandular histological characteristics, in the terminal ileum of a patient with quiescent Crohn's disease, causing recurrent intussusception.

Giant Gastric Folds in Juvenile Polyposis.

To advance the diagnostic accuracy of juvenile polyposis syndrome, an important yet often difficult diagnosis, we describe in detail a new and medically significant presentation. This hereditary and high-risk GI cancer syndrome is often associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, as in this 47-year-old female patient with a SMAD4 germline pathogenic mutation. Total gastrectomy revealed giant gastric folds with inflamed foveolar hyperplasia consuming most of the gastric cardia and body but sparing the antrum. Together, this gross and histologic pathology mimics Ménétrier's disease, a

Gastroesophageal reflux is associated with an increased risk of gastric cardiac polyps: a case-control study of 140 cases.

BACKGROUND: The pathogenesis of gastric cardiac polyps is not yet clear, and there is little research on their clinical and histopathologic characteristics and correlation with gastroesophageal reflux. Early detection and treatment of premalignant lesions in this area can prevent the development of cancer. We aimed to evaluate the clinical and histopathologic characteristics and risk factors of gastric cardiac polyps to improve the current understanding of the disease. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with gastric cardiac polyps at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University between Ja
