The mechanism of patchouli alcohol in treating IBS-D based on BMP-Smad pathway.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a chronic gastrointestinal condition, and diarrhea predominant (IBS-D) is the most common subtype. The enteric nervous system (ENS) regulates major gastrointestinal motility and function, and the intestinal neuronal BMP-SMAD signaling pathway is closely related to intestinal motility. Patchouli alcohol (PA) has been reported to modulate IBS-D, but whether its mechanism of action ameliorates IBS-D through the BMP-SMAD signaling pathway is unclear. This study preliminarily confirmed the abnormal colonic contraction of IBS-D functional bowel disease, and PA can not

Study protocol for a prospective, investigator-initiated clinical trial on the vascular effects of acupuncture in the abdomen and lower limbs for patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Physicians classify irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea symptoms under the label IBS-D which represents a gastrointestinal disorder that meets specific functional diagnostic criteria. Studies show acupuncture helps manage IBS-D symptoms though researchers do not understand if specific treatment points in the abdomen provide better outcomes than standard acupuncture points in the lower body regions. The study investigates the effects acupuncture treatments using local and systemic needling techniques have on IBS-D symptom expression and gut microbial diversity features. METHODS:

[Treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Predominant Diarrhea].

Irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D) is a subtype of irritable bowel syndrome that causes frequent loose stools. Although the precise pathophysiology remains unclear, factors, such as gut microbiota imbalance, visceral hypersensitivity, intestinal permeability changes, and stress, play significant roles. Recent studies have suggested that dysbiosis is a key contributor to IBS-D pathogenesis, emphasizing the need for targeted therapeutic strategies. The treatment of IBS-D involves pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Pharmacological treatments include antidi

A "Janus" structured nanoclay microgel system for targeted probiotic therapy in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome.

Probiotic therapy holds potential for preventing and treating various gastrointestinal diseases, including diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). Previous studies have suggested that it can help restore intestinal mucosal immunity and gut microbiota dysbiosis in IBS-D patients. Probiotics regulate host microbial metabolism and immune homeostasis, thereby improving host health. Effective and persistent colonization is crucial for probiotic therapy, but oral probiotics often suffer from limited efficacy due to loss of biological activity and insufficient colonization in the compl

Mechanosensory Piezo2 regulated by gut microbiota participates in the development of visceral hypersensitivity and intestinal dysmotility.

The gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the manifestation of intestinal dysfunction associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The mechanosensory Piezo2 has been implicated in the regulation of intestinal function. However, it remains unclear whether Piezo2 is modulated by the gut microbiota, thus contributing to the development of visceral hypersensitivity and gut dysmotility. The study enrolled patients with diarrhea-predominant IBS (IBS-D) alongside healthy controls (HC). Questionnaires, rectal barostat test, and colonoscopy with mucosal biopsy were conducted. Fecal microbiota trans

Real-world experience with the diagnosis of bile acid malabsorption (BAM) using serum 7-alpha-C4 and 48-hour stool bile acids.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: Bile acid malabsorption (BAM) is responsible for 30% of cases of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) or functional diarrhea and 63.5% of cases of diarrhea following cholecystectomy. 75SeHCAT is the gold standard diagnostic method but is unavailable in Mexico. Alternatively, primary bile acid (PBA) and total bile acid (TBA) determination in 48 h stools and 7αC4 measurement have been proposed as screening tests. OBJECTIVE: Our aim was to evaluate the experience with PBAs and/or TBAs and to determine whether 7αC4 is a good screening biomarker for BAM in c

Fecal CD200 as a Measure of Immunosuppressive CD200L and Proinflammatory CD200S at the Feto-Maternal Interface.

PROBLEM: Patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome have an increased risk of recurrent miscarriage (RM). Loss of chromosomally normal post-implantation embryos is triggered by the proinflammatory cytokines interferon-γ and TNF-α from NK cells and macrophages. Mouse models of RM similar to human unexplained RM have implicated fecal LPS as an important abortifacient. However, subnormal expression of immunosuppressive CD200L at the feto-maternal interface has also been implicated in RM. Human stool contains desquamated epithelium expressing immunosuppressive CD200L and stromal C

Aptamer-chitosan modified chlorogenic acid derived nanoparticles for enhancing target treatment in diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome.

Diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is a common chronic non-organic gastrointestinal disorder often associated with low-grade intestinal inflammation that disrupts gut function. However, current therapies remain inadequate for achieving sustained symptom relief. In this study, chlorogenic acid-derived carbon nanoparticles (CHA CNs), synthesized via a hydrothermal method, were further encapsulated within ssDNA aptamer modified chitosan (Apt-CS) to yield a multifunctional nanomedicine (Apt-CS@CHA CNs) with anti-inflammatory, ROS-scavenging, and microbiota-regulating properties.
