Results of sclerotherapy and mucopexy with haemorrhoidal dearterialization in II and III degree haemorrhoids. A 4 years' single centre experience.

INTRODUCTION: Haemorrhoidal disease (HD) affects a considerable portion of the adult population. The aim of this study is to confirm the safety and efficacy of the treatments and to report the long-term outcomes of Sclerotherapy (ST) and Mucopexy and Haemorrhoidal Dearterialization (MHD) performed over the last 4 years in a single tertiary centre. The secondary outcome is to evaluate the usefulness of both techniques and to demonstrate how those can be associated as a bridge to surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients affected by second-third-degree haemorrhoids and undergoing ST or non-Doppl

Sclerobanding in the treatment of second and third degree hemorrhoidal disease in high risk patients on antiplatelet/anticoagulant therapy without suspension: a pilot study.

INTRODUCTION: Around 20% of population in western countries is under anticoagulant treatment. However, there is paucity of evidence about the treatment of HD in patients under anticoagulant/antiplatelet therapy, although both suspension and continuation in the perioperative period may increase the risk of severe complications. The aim of this pilot study was to confirm the feasibility and safety of sclerobanding (Combined Rubber Band Ligation with 3% Polidocanol Foam Sclerotherapy), an office-based procedure, for the treatment of second-and third-degree HD in patients under anticoagulant/antip

Early and midterm results of radiofrequency ablation (Rafaelo® procedure) for third-degree haemorrhoids: a prospective, two-centre study.

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for treating third degree haemorrhoids, with a follow-up over 2 years. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, two-centre study to assess RFA of third-degree haemorrhoids in an outpatient setting. Treatment was performed under local anaesthesia, optionally in combination with sedation. The primary endpoint was analysis of a proctological symptom score ([PSS] bleeding, itching, pain, soiling) and proctological examination to detect recurrence at 1, 6, 12 and 24 months after surgery. The seco

A pragmatic multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing stapled haemorrhoidopexy with traditional excisional surgery for haemorrhoidal disease: the eTHoS study.

BACKGROUND: Haemorrhoids are a benign anorectal condition and are highly prevalent in the UK population. Treatments involve clinic-based procedures and surgery. The surgical procedures available include stapled haemorrhoidopexy (SH) and traditional haemorrhoidectomy (TH), and over 25,000 operations are performed for haemorrhoids annually in the UK. The disease is therefore important both to patients and to health service commissioners. Debate remains as to which of these surgical procedures is the most clinically effective and cost-effective. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare th

Haemorrhoidal artery ligation versus rubber band ligation for the management of symptomatic second-degree and third-degree haemorrhoids (HubBLe): a multicentre, open-label, randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Optimum surgical intervention for low-grade haemorrhoids is unknown. Haemorrhoidal artery ligation (HAL) has been proposed as an efficacious, safe therapy while rubber band ligation (RBL) is a commonly used outpatient treatment. We compared recurrence after HAL versus RBL in patients with grade II-III haemorrhoids. METHODS: This multicentre, open-label, parallel group, randomised controlled trial included patients from 17 acute UK NHS trusts. We screened patients aged 18 years or older presenting with grade II-III haemorrhoids. We excluded patients who had previously received any

Perirectal sepsis after rubber band ligation of haemorrhoids : a case report.

Rubber band ligation (Barron ligation, RBL) is a widely used method for the treatment of symptomatic -haemorrhoids. In general, it is considered as a safe, effective and easily performed way of treating second and third -degree haemorrhoids. Perineal and pelvic sepsis was already known to be a rare, but possible complication after stapled haemorrhoidopexy. However, there have been some reports of severe sepsis after rubber band ligation as well. We -present a patient who was treated twice for haemorrhoids with rubber band ligation and attended the emergency department 10 days later. He was dia

Anal mucosectomy for haemorrhoids: should we start to speak Chinese?

AIM: Circular stapled mucosectomy is the standard therapy for the treatment of symptomatic third-degree haemorrhoids and mucosal prolapse. Recently, new staplers made in China have entered the market offering an alternative to the PPH stapling devices. The aim of this prospective randomized study was to compare the safety and efficacy of these new devices. METHODS: Fifty patients with symptomatic third-degree haemorrhoids were randomized to mucosectomy either by using stapler A (CPH32; Frankenman International Ltd, Hong Kong, China; n = 25) or stapler B (PPH03; Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Spreitenb
