Relationship between changes in blood glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin [HbA1c], cholesterol, and triglyceride and changes in hepatic enzymes.

The main risk factors for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are strongly associated with obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and metabolic syndrome. The best clinical evaluation of the liver is done through studying changes in liver enzymes' activity, especially alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and alkaline phosphatase. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between changes in factors such as blood glucose, cholesterol, glycosylated hemoglobin, and triglyceride and changes in hepatic enzymes in patients who visited Fajr Hospital in Tehran. Genome-wide association study of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease in a Korean population.

Genome-wide association studies have identified several genetic variants associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. To emphasize metabolic abnormalities in fatty liver, metabolic (dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has been introduced; thus, we aimed to investigate single-nucleotide polymorphisms related to MAFLD and its subtypes. A genome-wide association study was performed to identify genetic factors related to MAFLD. We used a Korean population-based sample of 2282 subjects with MAFLD and a control group of 4669. We replicated the results in a validation sample whic

Type 1 diabetes mellitus and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND: NAFLD (Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease) is becoming an increasingly common cause of chronic liver disease. Metabolic dysfunction, overweight/obesity, and diabetes are thought to be closely associated with increased NAFLD risk. However, few studies have focused on the mechanisms of NAFLD occurrence in T1DM. METHODS: We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the causal association between T1DM and NAFLD with/without complications, such as coma, renal complications, ketoacidosis, neurological complications, and ophthalmic complications. Multiple Mende

Environmental toxicants modulate disease severity in pediatric metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.

OBJECTIVES: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is common in children. We hypothesized environmental toxins could drive progression to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), and assayed serum toxins and metabolites in children with histologically characterized MASLD/MASH. METHODS: Environmental chemicals, common in household items, perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), polybrominated flame retardants (polybrominated diphenyl ethers [PBDEs]), and metabolic profiles were assayed in children enrolled in the multicenter NASH Clinical Research Network Ped

7-Hydroxyflavone improves nonalcoholic fatty liver disease by acting on STK24.

The escalating incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with a high-fat diet, leading to a decline in quality of life and significant health impairment. 7-Hydroxyflavone (7-HY) is a flavonoid known for its anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and antioxidant effects. This study aims to assess the ameliorative effects of 7-HY on NAFLD induced by a high-fat diet and elucidate underlying mechanisms. Oleic acid/palmitic acid-induced HepG2 cells and C57BL/6 mice on a high-fat diet were utilized as in vitro and in vivo models. In animal experiments, 7-HY was utiliz

Liver at crossroads: unraveling the links between obesity, chronic liver diseases, and the mysterious obesity paradox.

Obesity is a global health issue that is intricately linked to the development and progression of chronic liver disease (CLD). This bidirectional connection, coupled with the obesity paradox (OP), presents a management dilemma. The established influence of obesity on the development and progression of chronic liver disease (CLD) is surpassed by the liver's impact on the onset and advancement of obesity. Patients with CLD always experience increased energy expenditure, reduced appetite, and low protein synthesis, all of which might lead to weight loss. However, metabolic disturbances, hormonal

Mice Hepatic Organoids for Modeling Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Drug Response.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a serious disease. There are no specific drugs for it, in part because of the lack of effective models to aid drug development. However, it has been shown that three-dimensional organoid culture systems can reproduce the organ structure and maintain the gene expression profile of the original tissue. Therefore, we aimed to construct NAFLD models from liver organoids for pharmacological and mechanism studies. We successfully observed morphological changes in normal liver tissue in mouse liver organoids with positive albumin (ALB) expression and potent
