Estimation and Inference for the Additive Mean Residual Life Model With Change Point in the Continuous Covariate.

The mean residual life model offers comprehensive insights into the relationship between a patient's remaining life expectancy and various covariates. In cancer research, a patient's lifespan may dramatically change when a covariate exceeds a threshold. Accurately detecting and estimating this change-point is crucial for predicting the patient's life expectancy and preventing diseases. To address these challenges, we investigate the additive mean residual life model with an unknown change-point in the continuous covariate. The martingale-based smoothed estimating equations are used to estimate

Dynamic Prediction of an Event Using Multiple Longitudinal Markers: A Model Averaging Approach.

Dynamic event prediction, using joint modeling of survival time and longitudinal variables, is extremely useful in personalized medicine. However, the estimation of joint models including many longitudinal markers is still a computational challenge because of the high number of random effects and parameters to be estimated. In this paper, we propose a model averaging strategy to combine predictions from several joint models for the event, including one longitudinal marker only or pairwise longitudinal markers. The prediction is computed as the weighted mean of the predictions from the one-mark

Senescence, Aging and Disease Throughout the Gastrointestinal System.

Senescence is an irreversible cell cycle arrest-characterized by morphologic alterations, genomic instability, and secretome changes-that profoundly affects the tissue structure and function. Accumulating evidence indicates that senescence plays a relevant role in gastrointestinal pathologies: senescence contributes to salivary gland hypofunction, is instrumental in the development of oral submucous fibrosis, drives age-dependent hepatic steatosis, and regulates the clinical progression of steatotic liver disease. Senescence in the biliary tract develops in response to ischemic injury in bilia

Primary biliary cholangitis: A historical perspective from xanthomatous lesions to modern molecular biology.

Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease characterized by damage and loss of the epithelial lining of small intrahepatic bile ducts, leading to ductopenia and cholestasis. In advanced stages, this process results in cirrhosis and liver failure. The disease belongs to cholangiopathies. The review addressed historical questions concerning: The history of the first mention of this disease; how its nomenclature was formed; when specific serological tests were discovered and their importance in the diagnosis of PBC; the history of ursodeoxycholic and other bile acids

Prevalence and Bidirectional Association Between Autoimmune Liver Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: While the association between inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and autoimmune liver disease (AILD) is well-established, prevalence estimates vary considerably across studies. In this study, a meta-analysis was performed to determine the pooled prevalence and characterize the bidirectional relationship between AILD and IBD. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to identify observational studies reporting the prevalence between IBD and AILD. Data were extracted for eligible studies, and pooled prevalence estimates were derive

Evaluating the diagnostic efficacy of anti-M2-3E, anti-gp210, and anti-sp100 antibodies in primary biliary cirrhosis.

INTRODUCTION: The diagnosis of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) relies on the detection of specific antibodies, yet there is variability in the diagnostic accuracy and efficiency among the different diagnostic methods. We aimed to assess the individual diagnostic performance of these markers using different detection methods. METHODS: A total of 112 participant-54 with PBC and 58 acting as disease controls-were enrolled. The levels of anti-M2-3E, anti-gp210, and anti-sp100 antibodies were measured using immunoblot tests from Euroimmun, flow cytometry-based multiplex bead immunoarray (MBIA [T

Intestinal obstruction caused by disseminated mycobacterium avium complex disease following solid organ transplantation: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) is a common pathogen causing non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections, primarily affecting the lungs. Disseminated MAC disease occurs mainly in immunocompromised individuals, such as those with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, hematological malignancies, or those positive for anti-interferon-γ antibodies. However, its occurrence in solid organ transplant recipients is uncommon. Herein, we report a rare case of disseminated MAC disease following liver transplantation, which led to an obstructive mass in the intestinal tract that required differen

Association between Klotho and autoimmune diseases: A Mendelian randomization study and cross-sectional study.

Klotho is posited to exert a pivotal influence on autoimmune diseases (AIDs). This study endeavors to comprehensively scrutinize the causal relationship between Klotho and 15 AIDs. We employed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to scrutinize the causal links between Klotho and 15 AIDs. After a rigorous evaluation, potential candidate single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for GC and 15 AIDs were extracted from the genome-wide association study dataset. These diseases include rheumatoid arthritis (RA) (2,228,946 SNPs), systemic lupus erythematosus (24,198,877 SNPs), multiple scl

Sex hormones and 14 autoimmune diseases: The causal relationship from a bidirectional 2-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Numerous observational studies have suggested links between sex hormones and various autoimmune diseases (ADs). However, the causality of these associations remains uncertain. This study employs Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causal relationship between sex hormones and ADs risk. We conducted bidirectional MR using publicly available genome-wide association study summary statistics to explore the association between 4 sex hormones (total testosterone, bioavailable testosterone, estradiol, dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate), and sex-hormone-binding globulin with the risk
