Spontaneous Bilateral Vesical Artery Pseudoaneurysms Presenting With Massive Recurrent Hematuria and Obstructive Acute Kidney Injury: A Case Report.

Spontaneous development of vesical artery pseudoaneurysm (VA-PA) as a cause of life-threatening hematuria is very rare. Most of the existing reports are due to trauma or other types of pelvic surgeries/urological procedures. Incomplete hemostasis in these patients can lead to subsequent complications such as clot retention, severe blood loss resulting in anemia and obstructive AKI. We report this extremely rare case of a 35 year old lady with bilateral VA-PA causing recurrent episodes of massive hematuria and obstructive AKI that was ultimately resolved by selective embolization. A 35-year-old

Circulation and recombination-driven diversity of duck hepatitis B virus in domesticated geese in Guangdong, southern China.

Duck hepatitis B virus (DHBV) is a valuable comparative model for human hepatitis B virus (HBV) due to its shared genomic organization and reverse transcription-based replication, despite having only ∼40% nucleotide identity. Infection is generally asymptomatic in adult birds but causes reduced hatchability, impaired embryo development, and growth retardation in young waterfowl, leading to economic losses. As a major waterfowl producer, China faces risks from this endemic virus. This study analyzed 901 deceased domesticated geese liver samples from five regions in Guangdong province, southern

Host restriction factors in HBV-related liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma: mechanisms of viral-host interplay and implications for therapy.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a leading cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), imposing a substantial global health burden. The natural history of persistent HBV infection progresses from chronic inflammation to fibrosis, cirrhosis, and malignant transformation, driven in part by the stability of covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) within hepatocyte nuclei. Nucleos(t)ide analogues (NUCs) effectively suppress viral replication but rarely lead to a functional cure, necessitating long-term therapy and carrying a residual risk of resistance. PEG-interferon-

Heart-Liver Interactions: Pathophysiology and Diagnosis of Hypoxic Hepatitis, Congestive Hepatopathy, and Cirrhotic Cardiomyopathy.

The heart and liver are closely interconnected through complex hemodynamic, neurohumoral, inflammatory, and metabolic mechanisms. Dysfunction of either organ may adversely affect the other, giving rise to a broad spectrum of cardiohepatic disorders with important diagnostic and prognostic implications. This narrative review is based on a literature search strategy of PubMed and the Web of Science Core Collection covering publications from January 2000 through June 2026, with a focus on hypoxic hepatitis, congestive hepatopathy, and cirrhotic cardiomyopathy. Cardiac diseases may induce liver in

RUNX3 DNA methylation as a novel biomarker for PFAS-induced genotoxicity: Insights into 6:2 FTSA-mediated epigenetic dysregulation.

BACKGROUND: Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) represent a persistent class of environmental contaminants associated with adverse health outcomes, though their genotoxic mechanisms remain poorly characterized. METHODS: This study investigated dose-response relationships and molecular pathways linking PFAS exposure to DNA damage in 168 healthy individuals without occupational exposure, focusing on the role of RUNX3 DNA methylation. Among 23 PFAS analyzed, 21 were quantifiable in serum. RESULTS: Higher PFAS concentrations correlated significantly with elevated Tail DNA% (P < 0.05) and

The ncRNA-Epigenetic-Cuproptosis Axis in Liver Diseases: From Copper Homeostasis to Precision Hepatology.

Cuproptosis, a recently defined copper-dependent form of regulated cell death driven by excess intracellular copper, is characterized by copper binding to lipoylated tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle proteins, causing aberrant protein oligomerization, iron-sulfur cluster loss, and proteotoxic stress. Given the liver's central role in copper homeostasis, hepatocytes are particularly vulnerable to this death modality. This review examines the emerging non-coding RNA (ncRNA)-epigenetic-cuproptosis axis in liver diseases, critically evaluating the evidence across a spectrum from well-established bioc

Hepatitis C screening strategies and linkage-to-care approaches in U.S. emergency departments: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection remains a public health concern in the U.S. Emergency departments are pivotal for the identification of undiagnosed HCV infections. This study seeks to estimate outcomes across hepatitis C virus antibody screening strategies and linkage-to-care approaches implemented in U.S. emergency departments (EDs). METHODS: We searched online databases (e.g., Embase, PubMed) for studies published between January 2014 and December 2024 evaluating HCV care cascade outcomes in ED settings. When necessary, we surveyed corresponding authors to clarify patient navig

Resurgence of Sexually Transmitted Hepatitis C Virus Infection in Men Who Have Sex With Men Living With HIV.

In 2023-2025, HCV transmission in men who have sex with men (MSM) living with HIV in Hong Kong resurged. This study aims to assess the epidemiologic patterns between 2011 and 2025. Among 288 MSM with sexually acquired HCV infection, 73% were diagnosed at least 12 months after HIV diagnosis, and 98% had ever achieved HIV viral load suppression. Comparing with Period 1 (2015-2022) featuring a large HCV genotype 3a cluster (89 diagnoses) and a few smaller HCV genotype 1a clusters (size of 2 to 13), Period 2 (2023-2025) was dominated by two HCV genotype 1a clusters (7 and 16 new diagnoses). Cell-free DNA methylation markers in the diagnosis of hepatitis B virus-related- hepatocellular carcinoma: a review.

Hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HBV-HCC) remains a major cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, and its prognosis largely depends on detection at an early, potentially curable stage. However, current surveillance strategies based on ultrasonography and alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) have limited sensitivity, highlighting the need for more accurate and non-invasive biomarkers. This review examines the emerging role of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) methylation analysis as a liquid biopsy approach for the early detection and surveillance of HBV-HCC. Aberrant DNA methylation is a major

A Multidimensional Assessment of Cardiometabolic Risk in Asian Americans with Chronic Hepatitis B Using the All of Us Datasets.

Background/Objectives: Asian Americans (AAs) bear a disproportionate burden of chronic hepatitis B (CHB), with one in 12 living with this condition. Despite evidence that cardiometabolic conditions accelerate CHB progression and hepatocellular carcinoma risk, cardiometabolic comorbidities in this population remain critically understudied. This study provides an assessment of cardiometabolic burden and phenotypic heterogeneity among AAs with CHB. Methods: We analyzed data from the All of Us Research Program Controlled Tier Dataset v8 (n = 436 AAs with CHB). We ran descriptive analyses to examin

Timing of Earliest Documented Positive Hepatitis C Laboratory Result Relative to Delivery Among Pregnant Persons With Active Infection in West Virginia, 2022-2023.

Direct-acting antiviral therapy can cure hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection; however, because treatment is not recommended during pregnancy, preconception treatment remains the primary strategy to prevent perinatal HCV exposure. West Virginia birth records from 2022 to 2023 were linked with statewide HCV laboratory surveillance data. This linked dataset was used to identify births to persons with active HCV infection and characterize the timing of the earliest documented positive HCV laboratory result relative to delivery. A total of 426 deliveries resulting in 433 HCV-exposed live-born infants

The Rationale for Tissue Biopsy in the Era of Precision Hepatocellular Carcinoma Management.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common liver cancer and usually develops on a background of cirrhotic liver. Early and accurate diagnosis enables potentially curative interventions. HCC surveillance, usually offered to patients at risk for HCC, such as those with cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis B infection, and previous diagnosis of HCC, is associated with earlier detection and improved survival. In these patients, the diagnosis can be established non-invasively without histological confirmation when the imaging-based LI-RADS criteria are met. Tissue biopsy is mandatory for establishin

Complete remission of minimal change disease after antiviral monotherapy in a patient with immune-active chronic hepatitis B: A case report.

RATIONALE: Minimal change disease (MCD) is characterized by diffuse podocyte foot process effacement on electron microscopy, minimal structural changes on light microscopy, and the absence of immune complex deposition on immunofluorescence. In adults, MCD accounts for approximately 10% to 25% of nephrotic syndrome cases and is typically idiopathic, although secondary causes such as infections, medications, malignancies, and immune disorders have been reported. The association between hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and glomerular disease has been well established in membranous nephropathy an

The allogeneic eDN70(-) CAR-T Cells Without TCR or MHC Editing Exhibit Enhanced Persistence and Function.

Allogeneic CAR-T therapy offers an "off-the-shelf" alternative to autologous CAR-T, but faces graft-versus-host rejection (GVH) and host-versus-graft rejection (HVG). Conventional TCR/MHC elimination compromises persistence and increase NK susceptibility. Here, we developed a next-generation UCAR-T strategy that avoids TCR/MHC disruption while addressing donor-cell alloreactivity and host-mediated rejection. First, we eliminated CD4/CD8 to reduce alloreactivity while preserving TCR integrity and potentially TCR/CD3-mediated fitness, although in vivo xGvHD protection remains to be determined. I

Prevalence of Hepatitis C Infection and Treatment Initiation Following Dried Blood Spot Testing in New South Wales, Australia.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: To achieve hepatitis C (HCV) elimination by 2030, testing and treatment must reach people most at risk. Dried blood spot (DBS) testing offers an alternative to venepuncture, suitable for community and prison settings. This study evaluated HCV infection prevalence and treatment initiation among people receiving DBS testing in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. METHODS: The NSW DBS Pilot was an observational study of people testing for HCV RNA from DBS samples collected across 36 community sites (including drug treatment clinics and needle and syringe programmes) and 21 pris

Hepatic Progenitor Cells and the Ductular Reaction: Pathophysiological Role in the Progression of Liver Disease.

Ductular reaction (DR), a defining histological hallmark of diverse acute and chronic liver injuries, is fundamentally driven by the activation of hepatic progenitor cells (HPCs) and their complex, spatiotemporal bidirectional crosstalk within the hepatic niche. As bipotent precursor cells, HPCs initiate compensatory regeneration when mature hepatocyte proliferation is compromised. However, DR is not a uniform process but a multiphase dynamic reaction: transient early activation facilitates parenchymal restoration, whereas persistent, dysregulated HPC expansion fuels progressive fibrogenesis.
