Conductive hydrogels have emerged as promising materials for wearable and implantable bioelectronic interfaces because they combine tissue-like mechanical properties with efficient signal transduction. Among them, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) has attracted significant attention owing to its dual ion-electron conductivity, biocompatibility, and solution processability. However, practical bioelectronic applications require hydrogel electrodes to simultaneously achieve high conductivity, mechanical robustness, strong adhesion, self-healing capability, envir

BACKGROUND: Normal weight obesity (NWO) is characterized by a normal body mass index (BMI) and elevated body fat. Heterogeneous risk has been observed in people with obesity (BMI > 30) when considering metabolic risk factors (MRFs) such as high C-reactive protein, low-density lipoprotein, blood pressure, hemoglobin A1C, triglycerides, and low high-density lipoprotein.
OBJECTIVES: We assessed heterogeneity between metabolically healthy (MH) and metabolically unhealthy (MU) subjects with NWO in relation to (1) incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic

INTRODUCTION: Weight loss is the cornerstone of treatment for metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease (MASLD); however, its impact on liver histology across patient subgroups remains incompletely characterized. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to quantify the effects of body weight change across multiple histological endpoints in patients with biopsy-proven MASLD.
METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE (Ovid), and Google Scholar were searched from inception for trials reporting percentage change in body weight in MASLD or metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH)

Non-pharmacological treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) aims at modifying lifestyle patterns that promote metabolic dysfunction and hepatic fat accumulation. These include unhealthy dietary habits, which are characterised by excess energy intake and a qualitatively poor diet that is high in ultra-processed food, saturated fat, free sugar, red and processed meat and/or sweetened beverages, and low in fibre. In addition, sedentary habits, and sleep and circadian rhythm disruption have been identified as detrimental lifestyle factors. Lifestyle interventi

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: A recent Delphi statement proposed an adapted term from metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), substituting "fatty" with "steatotic", as the former was claimed to be stigmatizing. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to investigate this and understand stigma and awareness among fatty liver disease patients.
METHODS: A semi-structured interview consisting of questions was carried out with patients to get an understanding of their knowledge of fatty liver disease and their opinions o

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has been increasingly linked to environmental chemical exposure, yet the metabolic consequences of pesticide parent-metabolite co-exposure remain poorly understood. HepG2 cells were exposed for 48 h to chlorpyrifos (CPF, 10 mg/L), its major metabolite 3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinol (TCP, 1.25 mg/L), or their combination (CTCP). Network toxicology was applied for hypothesis generation, followed by integrated lipidomics and transcriptomics analyses. Under the selected exposure conditions, TCP induced greater lipid-droplet accumulation

BACKGROUND: Metabolic dysfunction-related fatty liver disease (MAFLD) has emerged as the predominant chronic liver disorder among children and adolescents. Like in adults, pediatric MAFLD encompasses a disease spectrum progressing from isolated steatosis to inflammatory changes, fibrotic development, and ultimately, cirrhosis. Despite increasing recognition of MAFLD as a major pediatric health issue, current literature lacks a systematic quantitative evaluation of research trends, leading to knowledge gaps in this field. To address this limitation, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis was per

INTRODUCTION: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a global health concern, even among lean individuals. The Gan-Jiang-Ling-Zhu decoction (GZD), a traditional Chinese medicine formula, shows therapeutic potential against MASLD. This study investigated the efficacy of GZD in lean MASLD and explored its mechanisms of action.
METHODS: A lean MASLD mouse model was established using C57BL/6 mice fed with a cholesterol- rich Paigen's diet (PD). Following successful modeling, mice were administered GZD (1.8, 3.6, or 7.2 g/kg) or vehicle control. Body weight, food intak

Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a natural polyphenol compound found in coffee, fruits, and vegetables. During digestion, a large proportion of dietary CGA is not absorbed and reaches the colon, where it interacts with the gut microflora. CGA can regulate the gut microflora to increase its diversity and proportion of beneficial microflora; reduce harmful microflora; induce changes in gut microflora-derived metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids, indole compounds, and hydroxycinnamic acid; and indirectly regulate host immunity, gut barrier function, and metabolic homeostasis. It can be degraded

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the mechanism and pharmacological activity of (Xiaoyaosan decoction) XYSD in the treatment of NAFL (nonalcoholic fatty liver) by proteomic techniques.
METHODS: C57BL/6 mice NAFL model was induced by HFD (high fat diet), and observed biochemical indicators and histopathological changes. We employed TMT (tandem mass tag) quantitative proteomics and conducted bioinformatics analysis. Additionally, an in vitro model using unsaturated FFA (free fatty acid)-induced lipid accumulation was established to discover the effect of XYSD on lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells.

OBJECTIVE: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is the most common chronic liver disease in children and is linked to type 2 diabetes. This study evaluates whether longitudinal changes in liver chemistries-γ-glutamyl transferase (GGT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT)-can serve as biomarkers of increased type 2 diabetes risk in children with MASLD.
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This multicenter longitudinal cohort study followed 1,035 children with biopsy-confirmed MASLD, without type 2 diabetes at baseline, for a mean of 3.9 year

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is one of the most prevalent liver disorders, affecting approximately one-third of the global adult population. The disease begins with hepatic fat accumulation (steatosis) and can progress to inflammation, fibrosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. To elucidate the complex mechanisms underlying MASLD, we have developed a novel mathematical model that integrates glucose and lipid metabolisms, oxidative stress, insulin signaling and insulin resistance, and cytokines functions. We demonstrated that variations in extracellular fatty ac

BACKGROUND: Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) is a significant health concern and is commonly associated with conditions such as dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Managing MASLD requires addressing both liver and metabolic dysfunction. Saroglitazar, a dual PPARα/γ agonist, has shown potential in addressing liver steatosis, fibrosis, and dyslipidemia.
METHODOLOGY: This prospective, single-arm, multicentric study with 50 MASLD patients with a mean age of 51.84 ± 10.66 years included 33 males. Patients received Saroglit

The proximal tubule (PT) of the kidney is a highly metabolic organ that regulates systemic homeostasis through ketogenesis and gluconeogenesis. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα), a nuclear receptor controlling fatty acid oxidation (FAO) and homeostasis, is expressed in the PT and is activated by fasting. Although the activation of systemic PPARα is essential for renal and systemic energy metabolism, the role of PPARα in PT has not been established. In this study, kidney PT-specific PPARα knockout mice (Ppara∆KPT) were generated, and the metabolic changes caused by 48 h o

BACKGROUND: Available evidence regarding effect of Cornus mas L. fruit extract (CMFE) as an anthocyanins source on glycemic control, insulin resistance, and adiponectin levels among metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) patients is limited and controversial. Thus, this study aimed to assess effect of CMFE on glycemic control, insulin resistance, and adiponectin levels in MASLD patients.
METHODS: This double-blind, randomized controlled clinical trial was carried out among 50 MASLD patients for 12 weeks. The participants were randomly categorized into the CMFE (CMFE,

Circadian clocks present throughout the brain and body coordinate diverse physiological processes to support daily homeostasis, yet the specific interorgan signaling axes involved are not well defined. We previously demonstrated that the skeletal muscle clock controls transcript oscillations of genes involved in fatty acid metabolism in the liver, yet the impact of the liver clock on the muscle remained unknown. Here, we use male hepatocyte-specific Bmal1 KO mice (Bmal1hep-/-) to reveal that approximately one-third of transcript rhythms in skeletal muscle are influenced by the liver clock in v

BACKGROUND: Reliable biomarkers are warranted to identify patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), including metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), at risk for developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
RESEARCH AND METHODS: We evaluated whether circulating histones can predict this risk. Plasma histones were measured using imaging flow cytometry in patients with MASLD (n = 25), MASH (n = 25), HCC (n = 40), and 30 healthy controls.
RESULTS: We detected (p < 0.05), compared to controls: 1) elevated levels of H2A, H3, H2A/H2B/H3/H4, macr
