Multiseptate gallbladder is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by multiple intraluminal septa. While often asymptomatic, it can present with abdominal pain or complications, such as gallstones. Cases of multiseptate gallbladder with gallstones have been rarely reported. We describe the case of a 15-year-old girl with multiseptate gallbladder complicated by cholelithiasis. No other biliary ductal anomalies were identified. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed and the gallstones were identified as bilirubin stones. Complete symptom relief was achieved postoperatively. This case highli

OBJECTIVE: Fatty acids in adipose tissue are key structural and metabolic regulators of cardiometabolic health, but the genetic architecture governing depot-specific composition in subcutaneous (SAT) and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is not well defined.
METHODS: We used MRI-derived estimates of fatty acid composition in SAT and VAT from 33,583 UK Biobank participants to perform genome-wide association studies. Functional annotation, fine mapping, colocalization, and expression QTL analyses were conducted to prioritize likely causal variants and explore mechanisms.
RESULTS: We identified six

BACKGROUND: In endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), common bile duct stones (CBDSs) can be removed through strategies, including endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST), endoscopic papillary balloon dilation (EPBD), and endoscopic sphincterotomy plus balloon dilation (ESBD). By comparing the efficacy and safety of these three methods, we aimed to determine the optimal technique for the removal of small CBDSs (≤ 10 mm in size).
METHODS: This was a multicenter, prospective, parallel controlled study involving patients with small CBDSs undergoing ERCP in three tertiary medical institut

BACKGROUND: Cholesterol gallstones represent a significant global health burden. Current treatments, including surgery and oral dissolution agents, are often invasive or limited by side effects and variable efficacy. This study investigated the in vitro gallstone-dissolving efficacy of a natural combination-sesame oil (SO), extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), psyllium extract (PE), and dandelion extract (DE)-compared to the pharmaceutical agent Rowachol®.
METHODS: In a randomized in vitro study, seventy cholesterol-dominant human gallstones were assigned to seven groups receiving either individual

Gallstone disease affects one-fifth of the population in Western countries, with 20% of patients experiencing biliary colic. The remaining 80% of patients are asymptomatic or report abdominal symptoms other than biliary colic (mild-symptomatic). International guidelines recommend cholecystectomy for symptomatic patients and surveillance for non-symptomatic individuals, without specific recommendations for mild-symptomatic. The laparoscopic approach has increased cholecystectomy rates, potentially extending indications to mild and asymptomatic cases. This study presents the results of a survey

Biliary dyskinesia typically presents with right upper quadrant or epigastric pain, but we describe an atypical case in a 58-year-old man with diabetes who presented with left-sided chest pain radiating to his left arm. His presentation initially suggested a cardiac etiology; however, cardiac evaluation, including stress testing and serial troponins, was negative. CT imaging incidentally revealed gallstones, prompting further investigation. Hepatobiliary scintigraphy subsequently confirmed biliary dyskinesia with a reduced gallbladder ejection fraction of 19%. Although surgical management was

A 42-year-old male presented with a two-month history of right upper quadrant abdominal pain, worsening over four days. Six months earlier, he had undergone a laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Examination revealed no jaundice or tenderness, and liver function tests were normal. The patient's basic inflammatory markers were within the normal range. Ultrasound revealed a residual gallbladder stump or dilated cystic duct with a calculus, and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) demonstrated a 3 × 1 cm stump with an 8 mm hypointense focus. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (

Since the causal relationship between cholelithiasis and serum bilirubin levels and hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignancies has been inconclusive and inconsistent for a long time, to control confounding factors and reverse causality as much as possible, this paper adopted a Mendelian randomization (MR) study to reveal further the causal relationship between different exposure factors and hepatobiliary and pancreatic malignancies. This study selected 4 exposure factors, including cholelithiasis, serum total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, and indirect bilirubin, by double-sample and bidirectiona

BACKGROUND: At present, laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is the primary treatment for gallstone. Although the application of LC has been widespread in developed countries, the cost-effectiveness of LC in high-altitude, low-resource regions remains unclear.
METHODS: We aimed to determine the cost-effectiveness of LC in the Qinghai Province and to provide a reference for other high-altitude area. We included 124 patients treated from 2018 to 2022 in Qinghai Traffic Hospital. We collected their demographic and clinical information and used the EuroQol Five Dimensions questionnaire to assess the

This case report describes an elderly female presenting with simultaneous biliary colic and symptomatic sinus bradycardia. The resolution of her bradycardia with pain management alone suggested Cope's sign, or the cardio-biliary reflex (CBR), as the underlying cause. This reflex is a well-recognized physiological response in which gallbladder pathology triggers vagal nerve signals, potentially causing significant alterations in cardiac rhythm and often mimicking primary heart conditions. This case illustrates that even uncomplicated biliary colic can induce this effect and emphasizes the impor

BACKGROUND: Post cholecystectomy pain is a common clinical problem. Investigation and management of patients with recurrent episodes of biliary pain and normal imaging is challenging. Low phospholipid associated cholelithiasis (LPAC) is a recently described syndrome that often presents with difficult to manage episodes of post cholecystectomy pain. Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) treatment of LPAC is supported by animal studies and case series but has not been assessed in a randomised trial.
METHODS: This protocol presents the design and rationale for an investigator-initiated, prospective, rando

Moynihan's hump is a rare variant of the right hepatic artery (RHA) characterized by a tortuous RHA coursing near the cystic duct. This complicates cystic artery (CA) identification, increasing the chances of mistaking the RHA for it, resulting in inadvertent injury during a cholecystectomy. We present the case of a Moynihan's hump identified during the critical view of safety assessment in a cholecystectomy performed on a 47-year-old male with cholelithiasis. Our report highlights the surgical challenges, emphasizing the importance of the identification of key structures and techniques to min

BACKGROUND: Bile duct calculi occur in a significant proportion of patients with cholelithiasis. They are usually managed by endoscopic methods, but surgical management is needed in complicated cases. The choice of a specific surgical procedure depends on various factors, such as the extent of bile duct dilation, the location of stones, and the presence of stricture or fistula. In this study, we described the different surgical procedures and their outcomes for patients with bile duct stones that could not be cleared by endoscopic methods.
METHODS: This is a retrospective cross-sectional stud

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures, with a low overall complication rate; however, anatomical variations within Calot's triangle can pose significant risks if not properly recognized. Among these, Moynihan's hump - a tortuous right hepatic artery (RHA) passing unusually close to the gallbladder and cystic duct - represents a rare but important vascular anomaly. We report the case of a 25-year-old woman with symptomatic cholelithiasis who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Intraoperatively, a tortuous RHA, forming a Moynihan's hump with

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the standard treatment for symptomatic cholelithiasis, cholycystitis and other gall bladder diseases. The adoption of robotic-assisted surgery has increased, but its comparative clinical outcomes remain debated. This meta-analysis compares the clinical outcomes of robotic versus laparoscopic cholecystectomy. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus and Embase from inception until August 2025 to identify relevant studies. Risk ratios (RR) for dichotomous outcomes and mean differences (MD) for continuous outcomes with 95% confide
