Endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage for patients with cholecystitis and high surgical risk is commonly performed by dilating the fistula before inserting the delivery sheath; however, this carries an increased risk of peritonitis. To overcome this problem, we developed a new technique that did not require dilation, using a 0.035-inch stiff guidewire, and retrospectively evaluated the efficacy and safety of this technique. This retrospective case series report collected data on non-surgical patients who underwent endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage for various indica

BACKGROUND: The ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is the gold-standard surgical technique to treat hypertensive hydrocephalus; however, it may fail in 20 to 70% of cases. The present study shows an alternative for patients with contraindications to VPS.
METHODS: A case series of nine patients. The medical records of all patients under 17 years of age who underwent ventriculo-gallbladder (VGB) shunt at a pediatric hospital from January 2014 to October 2022 were reviewed.
RESULTS: There were 6 (66.7%) males and 3 (33.3%) females. The average age of 73.6 months or 6.1 years at the time of surger

Since the early 1990's, laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the gold standard for the treatment of symptomatic gallbladder disease. Although the incidence of postoperative complications is generally lower with this approach, gallbladder perforation represents a serious risk that is among the most common complications of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The sequalae that can follow iatrogenic perforation have not been well documented and only a few case reports exist in the current literature. In this paper we discuss two case reports of delayed perihepatic abscesses following prior laparoscop

INTRODUCTION: Various preoperative risk factors for conversion in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) have been well studied. However, the assessment of intraoperative factors for conversion in patients with cholecystitis is unclear. The G10 scoring system, which incorporates 10 parameters, has tried to fill this void by developing a scoring system for the most commonly encountered surgical illnesses. So, we aimed to assess the utility of the G10 scoring system among patients presenting for LC for symptomatic cholelithiasis (both acute and chronic cholecystitis) in the clinical setting of a low-

KEY CLINICAL MESSAGE: The case highlights the importance of decisive action in addressing large gallstones causing gastric outlet obstruction. The chosen single-stage surgical approach reflects the need to manage both obstruction and the gallstone simultaneously.
ABSTRACT: Bouveret's syndrome is a rare cause of gastric outlet obstruction secondary to gallstones entering the enteric system through an acquired cholecystoduodenal fistula. Here, we present the case of an 85-year-old female who presented to our emergency department with gastric outlet obstruction secondary to a large gallstone in

BACKGROUND: Gastric conduit necrosis (GCN) after esophagectomy is a serious complication that can prove fatal. Herein, we report a rare case of GCN with a severe course that improved with conservative treatment.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 78-year-old male patient who underwent an Ivor Lewis esophagectomy and developed a massive GCN. The patient was critically ill in the initial phase but recovered quickly; he also had a ruptured gallbladder and a bleeding jejunal ulcer. On the 22nd postoperative day, massive GCN was revealed on endoscopy. Considering the recovery course, care

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GBD) offers a safe and minimally invasive alternative for percutaneous cholecystostomy (PCC) in acute cholecystitis patients with high-surgical risk. Additionally, EUS-GBD serves as a rescue biliary drainage in malignant distal biliary obstruction. Despite its widespread application, data within the Indian context remains sparse. This study aims to report the outcomes of EUS-GBD through the first multi-center study from India.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed patients undergoing EUS-GBD at six tertiary care centers of Indi

A cholecystocutaneous fistula is a type of external biliary fistula that occurs when there is an abnormal connection between the gallbladder and skin. We report the first case of a cholecystocutaneous fistula that occurred in association with the development of lymphoma in the gallbladder. A 76-year-old woman who was under observation for follicular lymphoma with a low tumor burden presented with fatigue and abdominal pain. Imaging studies revealed cholecystitis associated with an abdominal subcutaneous abscess, and lymphoma transformation was confirmed by a lymph node biopsy. Edwardsiella tar

This image article presents an 88-year-old indigenous woman with a history of several episodes of abdominal pain, for which she went to numerous different hospitals in the countryside, was always treated with analgesics, and then discharged. After a long time, the patient eventually was evaluated with magnetic resonance imaging. The test revealed a displaced gallbladder with thickened walls, multiple stones, and a fistulous tract extending to the skin. This case underscores the significant challenges faced by patients in regions with limited healthcare access, highlighting the impact of delaye

INTRODUCTION: Gangrenous cholecystitis is a serious complication of untreated gallbladder inflammation, necessitating immediate intervention. The primary resolution involves cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. The Billroth II gastrectomy, named after Theodor Billroth, addresses gastric conditions by removing a portion of the stomach and reconnecting the remaining section to the small intestine.Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a minimally invasive procedure that diagnoses and treats bile duct and pancreatic duct disorders, using an endoscope to acces

INTRODUCTION: Cholecystogastric fistula is an abnormal communication between the gallbladder and the stomach, it is a rare complication of chronic cholethiasis. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult as patients often present with non-specific symptoms.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 63-year-old female presented to the outpatient clinic with symptomatic cholelithiasis. Physical examination was unremarkable. Laboratory investigations, including complete blood count (CBC) and liver function test (LFT), were within normal limits. Upper abdominal ultrasound revealed hepatomegaly and gallbladder contraction wi

INTRODUCTION: Gallstone with acute cholecystitis is one of the most common diseases in the clinic. If the disease is serious, gallbladder gangrene, perforation, and sepsis may be caused. Gallbladder diseases rarely cause thoracic-related complications, especially pleural fistula, which is very rare in clinical practice.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 52-year-old male patient was admitted to the emergency department for 1 month with recurrent right middle and upper abdominal pain.
DIAGNOSIS: Computed tomography diagnosis: cholecystitis and peri-inflammation, small abscess around the base of the gallblad

Gallbladder spillage during laparoscopic cholecystectomy procedures is common but rarely leads to patient morbidity due to complications such as abscesses or fistulas. We present the case of a 52-year-old woman post cholecystectomy, who presented to our dermatology clinic with abdominal pain and an epigastric subcutaneous nodule. The nodule was removed, leading to a complete resolution of her pain. On histopathology, it was found to be a cutaneous cholelithiasis.

Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis is a rare chronic inflammatory disease of the gallbladder associated with complications such as perforation, dense adhesions and fistulation. We present a case of a female patient in her 20s who presented with three episodes of recurrent cholecystitis over 3 months. Her medical history included an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography for obstructive jaundice due to choledocholithiasis. As there was no possibility of performing an urgent cholecystectomy during her initial admission, she was listed for an elective operation. Laparoscopic inspection rev

Cholecystoduodenal fistula (CDF) is an uncommon condition characterized by an abnormal connection between the gallbladder and the duodenum, often linked to cholelithiasis. It typically presents with nonspecific symptoms such as abdominal pain and jaundice but can occasionally result in severe upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. This report describes the case of a 94-year-old female who presented with hypovolemic shock and multiple episodes of hematemesis. An upper GI endoscopy confirmed a CDF with active hemorrhage. Due to her comorbidities and poor performance status, an endoscopic approach

Cholelithiasis and its complications are among the most prevalent and costly medical conditions in the United States. Chronic gallbladder disease can progress into more complicated conditions, such as a cholecystoenteric fistula and, more specifically, a cholecystoduodenal fistula (CDF). Repair of these fistulas is complex and usually performed with an open approach. However, if discovered pre-operatively, they can be referred to a hepatobiliary surgery center, where surgeons have specialized training to do such procedures laparoscopically. Here, we present a case of a 57-year-old female with
