INTRODUCTION: Pilonidal sinus is a condition that causes inflammation and abscesses in the sacral region and affects adolescents and young adults. The etiology of this condition remains controversial.
CASE PRESENTATION: A six year old boy was observed to have an orifice in the frontonasal region which contained hair. He had two previous infections which were treated with antibiotics. Magnetic Resonance Imaging showed no cranial malformations. Surgery was performed under general anesthesia and the pilonidal sinus was completely excised. At follow-up the child was in good health.

Pilonidal sinus disease (PSD) manifests as an inflammatory skin condition typically emerging within the anal cleft. The prevalence of this disease varies in high income countries. This disease is associated with significant physical and psychosocial distress. Surgery is an option for managing PSD; yet, surgical methods vary, and a universally accepted gold standard approach is lacking, leading to current practices that are diverse and subject to ongoing debate. One such point of contention revolves around the decision to use packing or opt for a non-packing approach following surgery. Mohameda

Pilonidal disease is a common condition that commonly affects the younger adult population and is often seen in both the general practice and the hospital setting. Multiple treatment methods have gained and lost popularity over the last several decades, but more recent intervention principles show promising results. This article details the different methods of managing acute and chronic pilonidal disease ranging from treatments in the primary care setting to those in hospital theatres, with special attention to newer modalities of minimally invasive interventions. As a chronic illness that of

INTRODUCTION: The adolescent age group typically ranges from 10 to 19 years. This age group differs from the paediatric and adult populations based on their physiological, psychological, and social behaviour. Patients of this age group usually present with trauma, swellings, burns, hernias, hydroceles, haemorrhoids, fibroadenomas, abscesses, pilonidal diseases, etc. The objective of this study was to identify various causes requiring surgical intervention in adolescent patients and to determine the demography of these patients, reasons for surgery, and surgical outcomes in the patients of the

Background: Caudal regression syndrome (CRS) is a rare congenital malformation characterized by incomplete development of the lower spine and spinal cord. Its estimated incidence ranges from 1 to 2 per 100,000 live births, leading to a spectrum of clinical presentations. Although most cases are diagnosed during childhood, only a small number of cases have been documented in adults in the medical literature. Case Report: A 27-year-old woman underwent an outpatient magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the thoracolumbar spine due to severe lower back pain experienced for the first time. Despite co

BACKGROUND: Pilonidal disease (PD) is a common condition for which the global incidence is increasing. Surgery is the currently preferred approach to treatment but there is a growing interest in new minimally invasive techniques, such as sinus laser therapy (SiLaT).
AIM: Our primary objective was to assess the efficacy of SiLaT for the treatment of pilonidal disease. The secondary objectives were to evaluate morbidity and patient satisfaction and identify predictive factors of success.
METHODS: All adult patients, who underwent SiLaT in our department for a primary or recurrent pilonidal sin

BACKGROUND: Pilonidal sinus disease impacts a patient's quality of life. In the Netherlands, it is often treated with excision and secondary wound healing, which is associated with high recurrence rates and poor wound healing. The Bascom cleft lift, an alternative technique, has shown favorable healing times and recurrence rates.
OBJECTIVE: The present study compares successful wound healing, time to healing, complications, and recurrence rate between excision with secondary wound healing and Bascom cleft lift.
DESIGN: This is a multicenter retrospective study.
SETTINGS: Three institutions

BACKGROUND: Pilonidal disease (PD) is an acquired condition related to hair-induced mechanical forces on the skin surface of the intergluteal cleft, with subsequent abscess formation with or without a concomitant draining sinus (pit). While surgical management currently is the mainstay of treatment, pilonidal disease laser treatment (PiLaT) has recently been recognized as a promising treatment option for non-inflammatory diseases. Nonetheless, there is a paucity of available data on adolescent pilonidal disease laser treatment (a-PiLaT).
METHODS: We describe our preliminary experience with Pi

A 56-year-old male presented with a longstanding, gradually enlarging, painful, skin lesion over the natal cleft. This was initially thought to be a pilonidal abscess but, following multiple surgeries, he was diagnosed with Stage IVb squamous cell carcinoma of the natal cleft skin with bilateral inguinal lymph node metastases and subcutaneous metastatic deposits. Complete surgical cure was not possible. He underwent radiotherapy, cisplatin chemotherapy and cemiplimab immunotherapy to control his disease. His course was complicated by severe humoral hypercalcaemia of malignancy (HHM) resistant

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) as an adjuvant to crystallized phenol (CP) in treating pediatric pilonidal sinus disease (PSD).
METHODS: A single-center randomized controlled trial was conducted at Istanbul Esenyurt Hospital. Eighty-seven patients aged 0-18 were randomly assigned to two groups: the CP group (n = 42) and the CP + PRP group (n = 45). Upon arrival at the clinic, patients began a regimen of manual shaving and, if necessary, laser epilation every 6-8 weeks. For those with pilonidal abscesses, incision, drainage, and anti

A recurring abscess or draining sinus overlying the sacrococcygeal area is the hallmark of the chronic, well-known condition known as sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease. It is among the most difficult surgical challenges. Rarely, recurrent illness, persistent infection, and associated inflammation result in malignant transformation, most frequently in the form of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). We report a similar case of an 84-year-old man who presented to our outpatient clinic and had a persistent, recurring sacrococcygeal pilonidal sinus for 28 years. He had already undergone several surgical

INTRODUCTION: The treatment of pilonidal sinus (PS) is usually surgical, but no procedure is considered the gold standard. The Karydakis (K) technique is widely used, and unroofing and marsupialization (UM) is a simple surgery with good results.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To evaluate early postoperative complications (EPC) 30 days after UM surgery compared to the K technique.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVES: To evaluate surgical time, postoperative pain, patient satisfaction, return to daily activity and early recurrence within 3 months.
METHOD: Prospective, single-center, randomized study in patients who und

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Pilonidal disease may present with a draining secondary sinus or granuloma, but the development of these findings is not well-characterized.
CASE PRESENTATION: Two adolescent males presented with pilonidal disease. The first patient had a gluteal cleft abscess, and an incision and drainage procedure was performed. Although the abscess resolved, the incision site formed a granuloma with intermittent draining wound with granulation tissue. He underwent a pit-picking procedure along with excision of the granuloma. A large amount of hair was also removed from within t
