The Liraglutide-Induced Pemphigus Vulgaris: A First Case Report Highlighting Autoimmune Risks of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists.

INTRODUCTION: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a rare autoimmune blistering disorder that primarily affects the skin and mucous membranes. Drug-induced pemphigus (DIP) is an uncommon variant that is triggered by certain medications. The introduction of novel hypoglycemic agents, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA), has been associated with an increase in drug-induced bullous diseases. However, reports of pemphigus induced by these agents remain exceedingly rare. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the first case of liraglutide-induced PV in a 40-year-old female patient with type 2

Leucogen-induced pemphigus foliaceus: the first case report.

Drug-induced pemphigus (DIP) is a distinct subgroup of rare autoimmune blistering disorders, most commonly associated with thiol-containing medications such as penicillamine and captopril. Currently, an increasing number of pemphigus cases induced by non-thiol and non-phenolic drugs have been reported. Herein, we describe a 61-year-old woman with stage IV breast cancer who developed pemphigus foliaceus (PF) after receiving leucogen administration during anti-HER2 (THP) therapy. Cutaneous lesions resolved after leucogen withdrawal and corticosteroid treatment but recurred upon drug re-administr

Ibuprofen-Induced Pemphigus Vulgaris: A Case Report.

Pemphigus Vulgaris (PV) is a chronic autoimmune blistering disease. Although pharmacological agents, particularly those containing thiol groups, have been identified as precipitating factors, reports of non-thiol drugs, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), causing PV remain limited. We report a case of a 41-year-old Myanmar female who developed generalized bullous eruptions, oral ulcers, and ocular pain after the concurrent use of ibuprofen and penicillin V. She presented with extensive cutaneous erosions complicated by sepsis and malnutrition. Although penicillin V was initi

Drug-Induced Pemphigus Vulgaris Following Ceftriaxone Use.

Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is a rare, potentially life-threatening autoimmune blistering disorder characterized by intraepidermal acantholysis caused by IgG autoantibodies directed against desmoglein 1 and 3. Although most cases are idiopathic, certain medications, including antibiotics, have been implicated as potential triggers in susceptible individuals. We report the case of a 61-year-old man with a history of nonischemic cardiomyopathy, chronic kidney disease, and substance use disorder who developed widespread flaccid bullae six days after initiation of intravenous ceftriaxone for a suspect

Drug-Induced Pemphigus Foliaceus Potentially Triggered by Piperacillin-Tazobactam, Linezolid, and Additional Factors: A Report of a Rare Case.

Drug-induced pemphigus (DIP) is a rare autoimmune blistering disorder most commonly associated with thiol-containing drugs such as penicillamine, captopril, and bucillamine. However, additional medications are increasingly recognized in the nonthiol nonphenol group. While some cases require treatment with corticosteroids or immunosuppressants, in certain instances, simply discontinuing the offending drug is sufficient. We report a unique case of drug-induced pemphigus foliaceus (DIPF) potentially triggered by piperacillin-tazobactam and/or linezolid in a 69-year-old female patient on the 10th

Gliptin-induced Pemphigus.

This case highlights the development of gliptin-induced pemphigus in a patient shortly after initiating gliptin therapy for diabetes. It is essential to differentiate drug-induced pemphigus from idiopathic cases, as they can be clinically and histopathologically indistinguishable. A detailed medical history, including medication use, is crucial to identifying drug-induced conditions. The time interval between initiating the suspected drug and the onset of skin manifestations can vary widely from case to case. Improvement of the lesions following drug cessation confirms the diagnosis of drug-in

Exploring drug-induced pemphigus findings from the FDA adverse event reporting system database.

Pemphigus is a rare yet serious autoimmune skin disease. This study aimed to identify the drugs most commonly associated with pemphigus risk using the Federal drug administration adverse event reporting system (FAERS) database. Data on drugs and adverse events between 2004 and the second quarter of 2024 were obtained from the FAERS database. The medical dictionary for regulatory activities (MedDRA) was used to identify pemphigus cases, whereas the DrugBank database was used to determine the generic names of the medications. Four signal quantification methods were used for the analysis: odds ra

A case of superficial pemphigus induced by sodium valproate.

Iatrogenic pemphigus is a rare entity in routine dermatological practice, particularly in its superficial clinical form. We present a case of superficial pemphigus induced by sodium valproate. Our patient, a 70-year-old female, was being managed for epilepsy with sodium valproate. The interval between the initiation of treatment and the onset of symptoms was approximately one year. Clinical examination revealed oozing erythroderma with blisters and post-bullous erosions predominantly localized to seborrheic areas, along with a positive Nikolsky sign. Histological examination, complemented by d

Positive Herpesvirus IgG Antibodies in Lung Cancer Patients Finally Proved as Drug-induced Pemphigus.

BACKGROUND: Herpesvirus IgG antibody positivity can be a lifelong burden of disease replication and reinfection or recent viruses can be reactivated and play an important role in the diagnosis and monitoring of herpesvirus [1]. However, sometimes serum IgG antibody positivity is of limited help in determining the onset of disease. We reported a case of herpesvirus IgG antibody positive in a patient with lung cancer who was initially misdiagnosed as herpes simplex and later confirmed drug-induced pemphigus (DIP) by histological and immunofluorescence studies. METHODS: Appropriate laboratory te

Drug Induced Cutaneous Manifestations due to Treatment of Gastrointestinal Disorders.

Cutaneous manifestations due to drugs used in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders are multiple and common. Adequate diagnosis is of great importance, bearing in mind that the therapeutic regimen depends on its diagnosis. In this review, we provided an overview of the most common drug-induced skin lesions with a detailed explanation of the disease course, presentation and treatment, having in mind that in recent years, novel therapeutic modalities have been introduced in the treatment of various gastrointestinal disorders, and that incidence of cutaneous adverse reactions has been on th

Drug-induced pemphigus: A systematic review of 170 patients.

Pemphigus encompasses a rare heterogeneous group of autoimmune blistering diseases characterized by cutaneous and/or mucosal blistering. Multiple factors, such as some specific types of drugs, have been found to be involved in the induction of pemphigus. Here, we have designed a systematic review by searching PubMed/Medline and Embase databases to find the drugs, involved in pemphigus induction and exacerbation (updated on 19 August 2019). From 1856 initially found articles, 134 studies (198 patients; 170 patients in the drug-induced patients and 28 in exacerbation group) have been included. R

Pemphigus Herpetiformis-Type Drug Reaction Caused by Programmed Cell Death Protein-1 Inhibitor Treatment.

Reports of immune-related adverse events caused by programmed cell death protein-1 inhibitor are becoming increasingly frequent. Herein, we report the first case of pemphigus herpetiformis-type drug reaction presented after the treatment of tislelizumab (6 cycles) in a primary non-small cell lung carcinoma patient. A 56-year-old Chinese man was referred to our department for pruritic annulare erythema and blister for two weeks. Histological finding revealed blister formation in the epidermis and eosinophilic infiltration in the blister fluid. Direct immunofluorescence showed intercellular depo

Experience in the diagnosis and treatment of a drug-induced pemphigus.

Drug-induced pemphigus (DIP) is a special type of pemphigus, and its pathogenesis, characteristics of treatment, and prognosis are closely related to the inducing drugs. This article reports the diagnosis and treatment of DIP (pemphigus vulgaris) caused by the administration of rifampin to a patient with tuberculosis. Combined with the literature, we discussed the types, pathogenesis, differential diagnosis, and treatment principles of DIP. We propose that in the oral clinical practice for patients with pemphigus vulgaris, the importance of investigating suspected drugs that induce DIP should

A review and guide to drug-associated oral adverse effects-Oral mucosal and lichenoid reactions. Part 2.

Dental practitioners and other health professionals commonly encounter and manage adverse medicine effects that manifest in the orofacial region. Numerous medicines are associated with a variety of oral adverse effects. However, due to lack of awareness and training, these side effects are not always associated with medicine use and are underreported to pharmacovigilance agencies by dentists and other health professionals. This article aims to inform health professionals about the various oral adverse effects that can occur and the most commonly implicated drugs to improve the management, reco

Lisinopril-associated bullous pemphigoid in an elderly woman: a case report of a rare adverse drug reaction.

An 87-year-old woman with a long-standing history of hypertension, hypothyroidism and diabetes presented to us with scaly and pruritic vesicles of an erythematous base and crusted surface of 2-month duration. They first appeared on her abdomen and gradually spread to her lower back, thighs, before spreading to her upper and lower limbs. Her lesions were non-painful, aggravated by sun exposure only, and sparing mucous membranes. Nikolsky sign was positive with no discernible fluid-filled bullae. History was remarkable only for a doubling of her Lisinopril dosage 2 months prior to the appearance

Angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin II receptor blockers induced pemphigus: A case series and literature review.

Pemphigus is a group of autoimmune diseases characterized by the formation of erosions and/or flaccid bullae of the skin and/or mucosae. The definition "drug-induced pemphigus" has been coined to indicate cases of pemphigus with clinical, histological and immunopathologic features similar to those of the idiopathic disease but induced by systemic ingestion or local use of some drugs. The present authors analyzed a case series of three case reports with clinical and pharmacological features compatible with the diagnosis of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor bloc
