Autoimmunity to Collagen XVII (BP180-Ag2) in Pemphigoid Associated With Parkinson's Disease.

The association between Parkinson's disease and autoimmune disease is rare; in our population, there is 1 case per 10,000 inhabitants. Bullous pemphigoid has a much lower incidence, and consequently, the association of Parkinson's disease and bullous pemphigoid is rarer. We present the case of an 84-year-old patient with a 16-year history of Parkinson's disease, treated with rotigotine, levodopa, and carbidopa. The patient spontaneously developed tense blisters that spread to the trunk and extremities within 1 year of the first occurrence of dermatological symptoms. A lesional biopsy revealed

Generalised blistering in an infant following vaccination.

A male infant, born to parents in a non-consanguineous marriage presented with a 1-month history of itchy, fluid-filled lesions in a string-of-pearl appearance all over the body following administration of the first dose of pentavalent vaccination. The results of the immunological tests confirmed the diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid. He was treated with topical and oral corticosteroids along with oral dapsone, followed by good improvement. The child received subsequent doses of the vaccine without any further relapses.

Exploring the anti-quorum sensing potential of synthetic lipstick dyes against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Lip care products such as balms, glosses, and lipsticks are widely used to enhance lip health, appearance, and protection. Lipsticks provide aesthetic appeal, social and psychological benefits, that act as a protective barrier against environmental stressors. However, growing concerns have emerged regarding chronic lip infections associated with multidrug-resistant bacteria, particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This is especially concerning in individuals with conditions such as juvenile bullous pemphigoid, hypochromic microcytic anemia, and sickle cell trait. The persistence of P. aeruginosa

Mechanistic insights into sitagliptin-induced skin autoimmunity: Linking environmental drug exposure to IL-6 activation in bullous pemphigoid.

BACKGROUND: Pharmaceutical residues, particularly antidiabetic agents such as sitagliptin, have become emerging environmental pollutants due to their incomplete removal during wastewater treatment and high persistence in aquatic systems. Increasing detection of sitagliptin in sewage and surface water raises concerns about its potential ecological and human health effects. Recent clinical observations suggest that DPP4 inhibitors may be linked to bullous pemphigoid (BP), an autoimmune blistering skin disease, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to elucida

Prevalence of sleep disorders in patients with bullous pemphigoid.

BACKGROUND: Alleviating sleep disturbances is a key therapeutic goal in pruritic dermatoses. However, sleep disturbance remains under-investigated in patients with bullous pemphigoid (BP), despite contributing to exhaustion in older adults and potentially increasing disease morbidity. OBJECTIVES: To estimate the prevalence and severity of insomnia in BP patients, and examine its correlation with disease activity, self-rated pruritus, and quality of life (QoL). METHOD: A national, multicenter, controlled study in 61 BP patients and 61 age- and sex-matched controls. Insomnia severity was asses

Association of immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced bullous pemphigoid with underlying cancer type: A lack of association with cancer tissue COL17A1 mutations and dysregulation.

Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune blistering disease caused by autoantibodies to collagen type 17 (COL17A1) and is a recognized immune-related adverse event in patients receiving immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). We investigated whether cancer type influences the risk of developing ICI-induced BP and whether COL17A1 mutations or dysregulation in tumor tissue contributes to disease-specific variation. Using TriNetX, systematic review, and bioinformatics datasets, we comprehensively assessed the associations of ICI-induced BP with different malignancy types as well as COL17A1 gene expr

A case report of IgA-mediated anti-Laminin-γ1 (p200) pemphigoid successfully treated with stapokibart combined with corticosteroids.

IgA-mediated Anti-Laminin-γ1 (p200) pemphigoid is a rare subtype of subepidermal autoimmune blistering disease (AIBD) characterized by IgA autoantibodies targeting the laminin γ1 chain, a 200 kDa protein located at the dermal-epidermal junction. Patients typically exhibit skin-dominant blistering lesions, also mucosal involvement has been reported. We report a 73-year-old male patient diagnosed with IgA-mediated anti-Laminin-γ1 (p200) pemphigoid. He initially presented with prominent palmoplantar blisters erosions on the eyelids, lips and face, accompanied by mild pruritus. Skin biopsy demonst

Moxifloxacin Inhibits Neutrophil Responses to Immune Complexes and Ameliorates Skin Inflammation in a Model of Pemphigoid Diseases.

Moxifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic with immunomodulatory activity, has not been evaluated for effects on autoantibody-driven inflammation. Pemphigoid diseases are a group of autoimmune blistering skin diseases driven by pathogenic autoantibodies and granulocytes. With current treatments for pemphigoid diseases associated with substantial adverse effects, there is a high medical need for new treatment strategies. We investigated the effect of moxifloxacin on skin inflammation in the antibody transfer mouse model of bullous pemphigoid-like epidermolysis bullosa acquisita. Moxifloxacin at

European S2k guidelines on management of autoimmune blistering diseases in children and adolescents.

INTRODUCTION: Autoimmune blistering diseases (AIBDs) in children and adolescents present a major challenge in diagnosis and management because of their rarity and the presence of other differential diagnoses with blistering. They are potentially serious, and timely diagnosis and optimal management can help prevent morbidity related to both the diseases and their treatments. METHODS: The Autoimmune Blistering Diseases Task Force of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) has initiated evidence-based, expert-informed clinical guidelines for the diagnosis, treatment and monito

Bullous Pemphigoid Following Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Case Report.

CASE: A 72-year-old woman with no dermatologic history developed tense blisters, erosions, and eczematous lesions over the right knee after cemented bicompartmental total knee arthroplasty. Lesions progressed with oral mucosal involvement. Two months postoperatively, admission to dermatology department led to a diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid, confirmed by direct immunofluorescence of a skin biopsy, and indirect immunofluorescence with ELISA from blood. Treatment with oral methotrexate and topical clobetasol halted blistering and achieved resolution within 4 weeks. CONCLUSION: This case highl

Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid After Anti-PD-1 Therapy: Risk-Stratified Management and Treatment Outcomes.

Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) following anti-programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) therapy is rare but increasingly reported. Management of high- and low-risk MMP in this setting and the potential oncologic trade-offs remain poorly defined. We performed a narrative synthesis of all published cases of anti-PD-1-associated MMP, following MEDLINE, Embase, and PubMed Central searches from January 2014 to June 2025. Fifteen cases from thirteen reports met the inclusion criteria, with a median MMP latency period of 12.5 weeks. The oral mucosa was frequently involved and was the index site in 84.6% (11/1

Bullous Pemphigoid in Children: Sustained 8-Year Remission After Short-Course Corticosteroid Therapy.

This article reports a case of bullous pemphigoid (BP) in a 5-year-old child who achieved sustained remission for up to 8 years following short-course systemic corticosteroid therapy, aiming to provide observational evidence for the clinical management of childhood BP. The child initially presented with pruritic rashes and blisters, which were once misdiagnosed as infectious rashes; finally, the diagnosis was confirmed by direct immunofluorescence (DIF), histopathology, and other examinations. After treatment with systemic glucocorticoids combined with anti-infective therapy, the skin lesions

Tissue Levels of MMP-9 and Granzyme B in Patients With Bullous Pemphigoid: A Case-Control Study.

BACKGROUND: Proteolytic enzymes, including matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and granzyme B, contribute to dermal-epidermal separation, but their expression in human skin lesions is not fully quantified. We aimed to quantify tissue levels of MMP-9 and granzyme B in bullous pemphigoid (BP) lesional skin compared to healthy controls. METHODS: In a case-control study at the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology in Hanoi, Vietnam, between June 2024 and June 2025, lesional skin from BP patients and normal skin from healthy controls were analyzed. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and

Hemidesmosome Mutations Contribute to the Onset and Severity of Acquired Autoimmune Bullous Diseases.

Hemidesmosomes are structures that anchor junctions between basal epithelial cells and the basement membrane, essential for skin integrity. Genetic mutation of hemidesmosomes was well documented for the inherited bullous disorder, but is rarely investigated for acquired bullous disorders. We designed a 16-gene targeted capture panel and sequenced 202 patients with hemidesmosomes-related acquired disorders and 123 healthy controls, identifying 114 pathogenic variants in 15 genes, including 20.2% novel variants. Clinical relevance (disease severity and outcome) and immunohistochemistry results d
