Efficacy and Safety of Topical and Systemic Therapies for Atopic Dermatitis in Patients With Skin of Colour: A Systematic Review.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is more common and often more severe in people with skin of colour, yet the trials that shaped modern treatment enrolled mostly White participants. The disease can look different in darker skin, and erythema-based severity scores may miss active inflammation. Whether current topical and systemic drugs work as well, and are as safe, across racial, ethnic, and Fitzpatrick skin-type groups, is still uncertain. This review brought together the evidence on AD treatment outcomes reported by skin colour. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA

Contact Allergens Associated With Nummular Eczema: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Nummular eczema (NE) is a prevalent and chronic inflammatory dermatosis marked by pruritic, coin-shaped eczematous plaques. Contact allergen sensitization may play a role in NE etiology. METHODS: On April 30, 2026, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library were searched per PRISMA guidelines for studies investigating triggers or aggravators of NE through patch testing. RESULTS: Of 287 studies identified, 10 observational studies met the inclusion criteria. The median overall patch test positivity among patients with NE was 47.8% (range: 26.7% to 56.0%). The most frequently reporte

Irritant contact dermatitis: beyond a diagnosis of exclusion.

Irritant contact dermatitis (ICD) is the most common form of contact dermatitis and a leading cause of occupational skin disease, but remains underrecognized relative to allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Direct chemical or physical injury to the epidermal barrier causes ICD, which can develop in anyone when exposure intensity or duration exceeds the skin's repair capacity. ICD is increasingly understood to involve more than barrier disruption: it is an innate immune-mediated inflammatory disorder involving keratinocyte-derived cytokines, neutrophil recruitment, C-C motif chemokine ligand 2-C-

Allergic Contact Dermatitis to 2-Octyl Cyanoacrylate After Total Joint Arthroplasty: A Single-Surgeon Case Series.

BACKGROUND: 2-Octyl cyanoacrylate is widely used for surgical skin closure in orthopaedic procedures, offering advantages such as ease of application, strong adherence, and favorable cosmetic outcomes. However, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a rare yet recognized complication resulting in topical and systemic treatments and a theoretical risk for superficial and deep periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). METHODS: This retrospective case series analyzes patients who developed hypersensitivity reactions to 2-octyl cyanoacrylate following primary hip and knee arthroplasty performed by a si

Phytophotodermatitis: An under-recognized diagnostic pitfall in chemical burns.

BACKGROUND: Phytophotodermatitis is a rare and poorly recognized cause of chemical burns. It consists of a non-immunologic cutaneous reaction caused by exposure to plants containing photosensitizing substances, followed by ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure. The clinical manifestations resemble those of second-degree burns. Numerous differential diagnoses are possible. Diagnosis is based on a detailed history, highlighting the characteristic temporal sequence of contact with a phototoxic substance followed by UV exposure. Treatment is mainly symptomatic. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to report

A Narrative Review of Seven Off-Label Treatment Options for Seborrheic Dermatitis.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition driven by overactive sebaceous glands, Malassezia colonization, immune dysfunction, and epidermal barrier disruption. While topical corticosteroids and antifungals are first-line treatments, rebound disease and adverse effects limit long-term use. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate seven off-label therapies for SD: topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCI), metronidazole, phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitors (PDE4), systemic antifungals, isotretinoin, natural remedies, and microbiome-directed therapies. METHODS: A PubMed-based narrativ

Evaluating Medicaid Coverage for Over-the-Counter Treatments for Diaper Dermatitis.

Diaper dermatitis is a common dermatologic condition in infancy, frequently managed with over-the-counter (OTC) products. We conducted a cross-sectional review of Medicaid Preferred Drug Lists across 49 states and the District of Columbia to evaluate coverage of 14 commonly used OTC diaper dermatitis treatments. Coverage varied widely by state and product class, with therapeutic agents, such as topical antifungals, low potency corticosteroids, and antibiotics, more frequently covered than preventive barrier products, such as petrolatum and zinc oxide. These findings reveal significant state-le

Vascularized human skin assembloids model compartmental skin organization and immune responsiveness in vitro.

Allergic skin diseases, including atopic and contact dermatitis, are prevalent inflammatory disorders imposing clinical and socioeconomic burdens. Their pathogenesis involves impaired barrier function, genetic susceptibility and immune dysregulation, yet mechanistic insights remain limited by the lack of physiologically relevant human in vitro models. Conventional human skin organoids capture aspects of epidermal stratification but generally lack vascular components, limiting tissue maintenance and physiological relevance. To overcome these limitations, vascularized skin assembloids (VSAs) are

Phototoxic evaluation of agrochemicals by a newly developed in vitro UVB-induced phototoxicity test using human embryonic stem cell- or induced pluripotent stem cell-derived retinal pigment epithelial cells.

Currently, no suitable method is available for detecting substances with phototoxic potential in the ultraviolet B (UVB) range. Assessments of UVB-induced phototoxicity are required by the European Food Safety Authority, particularly for substances that mainly absorb in the UVB range (UVB absorbers). Therefore, we developed a novel UVB-induced phototoxicity test using human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-/human induced pluripotential stem cell (hiPSC)-derived retinal pigment epithelial cells (RPEs). UVB irradiation did not significantly affect the viability of RPEs, suggesting their resistance to
