Microbial functions in skin inflammation: a Mendelian randomization study.

Inflammatory skin diseases (ISDs) represent a significant global health burden, yet the role of the human microbiome in their pathogenesis remains unclear. This study employed a comprehensive two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) framework to investigate potential causal associations between multi-site microbiota (3117 oral, 412 gut, and 150 skin microbial features) and five major ISDs: psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, acne, seborrheic dermatitis, and urticaria. Genetic instruments were selected from large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of microbiota composition and ISD outcomes.

Erythrodermic crusted scabies-a diagnostic pitfall and mini-review: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Erythroderma is a severe dermatologic condition with a broad differential diagnosis encompassing inflammatory, drug-induced, neoplastic, and infectious etiologies. Scabies is the most common neglected tropical disease (NTD) and can manifest in two common forms: classic and crusted types. Although rare, crusted scabies is an important and frequently underrecognized cause of erythroderma (accounting for <0.5% of cases) that poses diagnostic challenges due to its clinical overlap with other dermatoses associated with erythroderma. CASE DESCRIPTION AND REVIEW: We report the case of

A Therapeutic Copper Hydrogel for Seborrheic Dermatitis: From Fungal Eradication to Skin Lesion Repair.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory dermatosis closely associated with Malassezia furfur overgrowth. Given the growing interest in metal-based antimicrobials, copper compounds were investigated here as potential anti-Malassezia agents for SD treatment. CuSO4 showed the strongest antifungal activity against M. furfur at 1 mM and rapidly reduced fungal viability. Mechanistic analyses revealed intracellular copper accumulation, elevated Fe2+ levels, increased reactive oxygen species generation, and enhanced lipid peroxidation, collectively suggesting an oxidative damage

Overlapping mycoses in a case of Seborrheic dermatitis with coexistent Malassezia folliculitis.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition likely caused by several factors, including overgrowth of the lipophilic yeast Malassezia, increased sebaceous gland activity, and a potential genetic predisposition, whereas Malassezia folliculitis (MF) is a fungal infection of hair follicles. In this case, a 22-year-old male initially presented with erythematous papules on the malar region and was clinically diagnosed with SD. Following partial improvement with topical and oral antifungals, the patient developed new pustular lesions involving the malar and chin regions, rais

Skin Impacts and Tradeoffs of GLP-1 Therapy: Improved Patient-Reported Outcomes of Inflammatory Skin Disease in the Era of "Ozempic Face".

INTRODUCTION: With the surge in use of glucagon-like peptide 1-receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) for weight management, "Ozempic Face," one of the dermatologic effects describing facial hollowing, sinking cheeks, and skin laxity, has drawn public attention. While substantial media discourse has surrounded certain dermatologic effects, patient-reported data is needed to more accurately characterize them. This study identifies patient-reported changes in skin, hair, and nails associated with weight management treatment with GLP-1RAs, including the frequency of dermatologic effects relative to weight

Physiological Characteristics of Scalp Skin With High Sebum Production and the Impacts of Shampoo Cleansing.

BACKGROUND: The scalp has a higher sebum content than other body areas, leading to issues such as itchiness, dandruff and discomfort. In individuals with scalp seborrhoea, the relationships between sebum levels, hydration, barrier function and self-perceived scalp condition remain poorly understood. AIMS: This study aimed to explore scalp sebum accumulation and associated physiological properties, as well as to evaluate the impact of a single shampoo cleansing efficacy on sebum levels. METHODS: This study involved an Asian population with self-reported scalp oiliness and dandruff. Participan
