The sudden occurrence and rapid increase in size and number of seborrheic keratoses is considered to be a symptom of internal malignancy. But many authors did not fully agree with this finding. Fifty clinic patients with mild to moderately severe dermatoses were treated for three weeks with bufexamac, a hydroxamic acid compound with anti-inflammatory properties. Half the patients had either contact or seborrheic dermatitis; the remaining 25 were distributed among five other diagnostic categories. Evaluation and grading of signs and symptoms were done at initial visit; changes resulting from topical treatment with bufexamac cream were monitored at weekly intervals. Reports of local and systemic complications from topically applied corticosteroids used in the treatment of inflammatory dermatoses warrant a re-examination of other methods of therapy. The specific measures suggested in this paper for treating seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis may also be applied to eczematous eruptions that are in similar stages of development.

66 psoriatics, 34 normal adults, 10 normal juveniles, and smaller groups of patients afflicted either with seborrheic dermatitis-rosacea or atopic dermatitis were examined for the threshold of capillary petechia formation on clinically normal forearm skin in response to repeated tape stripping. A definitely lowered petechial threshold was found in psoriatics (mean of 9 vs. 19 tape strips) and also in persons with the seborrheic-rosacea complex. The changes in disease pattern in a Danish skin clinic during the period 1947 to 1977 is reported. The data rest upon comparisons from patient registrations taken with ten years interval. A continuing study of perioral dermatitis over a period of 12 years is presented. A distinction is made between various patterns of circumoral and paranasal dermatitis and the clinical picture that we describe as "perioral dermatitis". From among 810 persons subjected to a medical examination, skin lesions were found in 33.3%. These were mostly: seborrhea (89 cases), occupational naevi (55 cases), dermatomycosis (49 cases), urticaria (21 cases), eczema (12 cases). Other dermatoses were found in 44 workers, however, in a small percentage, not greater than in other non-industrial populations. No occupational dermatoses resulting from exposure to fundamental materials or dyes used in production were found.

It is seen as a patch of unruly, very curly hair, arising in a field of otherwise unremarkable scalp hair. Woolly hair can also be seen as a hereditary trait involving the entire scalp and in acquired forms. It may be distinguished from two other types of unruly hair, pili torti and spun glass hair.

The porphyrin productions of P a.-strains, isolated on the one hand from inlfammatory acne lesions, on the other hand from sebaceous follicle filaments from 10 persons each were compared quantitatively and qualitatively, after the appropriate material had been pooled, With respect to the acne strains one could observe a somewhat increased porphyrin production as well as the discharging of a precentually greater portion of porphyrins to the surrounding material. When separated by TLC the acne material showed a more intense coproporphyrin band.

The paper refers to 167 patients who were treated with 2 mg Cyproteronacetate and 50 mug Ethinyloestradiol because of acne, seborrhoea, hirsutism and androgenetic alopecia. The application was daily from the 5th to the 25th day of cycle over a period of 12 months. The sebum-excretion rate (S.E.R.) has been found to be increased in patients with benign as well as malignant breast disease. The S.E.R. was not increased in patients undergoing surgery for other diseases. It is considered that the sebotrophic hormone may also be mammotrophic. Drugs such as reserpine and the phenothiazines which increase sebum production may perhaps provoke benign as well as malignant breast disease.
