Widening the Spectrum of Risk Factors, Comorbidities, and Prodromal Features of Parkinson Disease.

IMPORTANCE: The prodromal phase of Parkinson disease (PD) may last for more than 10 years. Recognition of the spectrum and occurrence of risk factors, comorbidities, and prodromal features of PD can increase understanding of the causes and development of the disease and help identify individuals at risk. OBJECTIVE: To identify the association of a subsequent diagnosis of PD with a range of risk factors and prodromal features, including lifestyle factors, comorbidities, and potential extracerebral manifestations of PD. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This was a case-control study using ins

Botulinum Toxin in the Oily Skin: Advantage of a Multi-Needle Device for a Controlled Release.

BACKGROUND: Oily skin is one of the most common dermatological complaints. With the obligation to use masks to protect themselves from the Covid-19 virus, the problem has become even more evident. One of the treatments proposed is the use of onabotulinumtoxin-A injected sub-dermally. For an optimal result, the injections must be done on the whole area with numerous micro-injections located only in the sub-dermis. The procedure is often poorly tolerated by patients and sometimes accompanied by hematomas and bruises. This research aimed to test a disposable device to inject botulin toxin at 1.5

The relationship between seborrheic dermatitis and body composition parameters.

OBJECTIVE: Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic, recurrent inflammatory skin disease characterized by clinically scaly patches. It is known that skin diseases with chronic inflammation are associated with comorbid conditions such as metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and diabetes. In recent years, there are studies investigating the relationship of SD with metabolic syndrome, hypertension, obesity and nutritional factors. However, there is no study evaluating body composition parameters in SD patients. In the light of this information, it was aimed to evaluate the re

Efficacy of anti-sebum moisturizing cream containing 2% l-carnitine and 5% epigallocatechin gallate in seborrhea: A randomized clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Seborrhea leads to facial greasiness and unpleasant feeling. People with seborrhea also have trouble with selecting moisturizers. l-Carnitine and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) are reported anti-sebum properties. However, neither efficacy comparison nor the combination effect of the two topical anti-sebum agents was studied. Moisturizing cream with these agents is supposed to provide skin with an optimal water-oil balance. AIMS: To compare the efficacy of moisturizer containing 2% l-carnitine or 5% EGCG alone on sebum controlling, and the synergistic effect of these two agents.

Seborrheic Dermatitis-Like Eruption Induced by Isotretinoin: A Case Report.

Isotretinoin has received widespread medical attention for the management of moderate to severe acne vulgaris. It has been associated with various dermatological side effects, particularly dryness and cheilitis. To our knowledge, only one study has provided evidence of isotretinoin-induced seborrheic dermatitis-like eruptions. In addition, other adverse effects of isotretinoin have been documented in the literature, such as angioedema and urticaria. Here, we present the case of an 18-year-old female with severely scarred acne vulgaris who developed a seborrheic dermatitis-like eruption shortly

Diseases from the Spectrum of Dermatitis and Eczema: Can "Omics" Sciences Help with Better Systematics and More Accurate Differential Diagnosis?

Researchers active in the field of inflammatory skin diseases from the spectrum of dermatitis and eczema are well aware of a considerable overlap in the clinical pictures and proposed sets of diagnostic criteria for these diseases, which can hardly be overcome through the clinical or epidemiological research. In effect, patients are included in studies based on vague and overlapping criteria, while heterogeneous study populations may, in turn, lead to non-representative outcomes and continued confusion. In this narrative review, a systematics of diseases from the spectrum of dermatitis and ecz

Reflectance Confocal Microscopy of Adult Periorificial Dermatitis: A Case Report.

Periorificial dermatitis (PD) is an inflammatory disorder of the facial skin that mainly occurs around the mouth and manifests as erythema, papules, pustules, scales and other lesions. Special attention is needed in the clinical diagnosis of PD to distinguish it from acne, seborrheic dermatitis (SD), granulomatous rosacea (GR), sarcoidosis and childhood granulomatous periorificial dermatitis (CGPD). We used reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) images of a patient with PD to assist in the diagnosis of PD. RCM of PD showed slight oedema of the spinous layer. Numerous dendritic cells, scattered

A Clinicoepidemiological Study of Cutaneous and Systemic Comorbidities of Seborrheic Dermatitis in Adolescent and Adult Females.

Background Seborrheic dermatitis is the most common, chronic inflammatory skin condition which is confined to the scalp, nasolabial folds, and regions rich in sebaceous glands for which no definitive cause has been found. Although the disease is more common, the comorbidities associated with it have not been studied in detail. This study aims to assess the prevalence of seborrheic dermatitis and its associated cutaneous and systemic comorbidities in adolescent and adult patients. Methodology This cross-sectional study was performed among 451 adolescent and adult female patients who visited the

Association between metabolic syndrome and prevalent skin diseases: A systematic review and meta-analysis of case-control studies.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a well-known noncommunicable disease that plays a significant role in emerging other chronic disorders and following complications. MetS is also involved in the pathophysiology of numerous dermatological diseases. We aim to evaluate the association of MetS with the most prevalent dermatological diseases. METHODS: A systematic search was carried out on PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, Cochrane, as well as the Google Scholar search engine. Only English case-control studies regarding MetS and any skin disease from the beginning of 2010 up t

Treatment with the Topical Antimicrobial Peptide Omiganan in Mild-to-Moderate Facial Seborrheic Dermatitis versus Ketoconazole and Placebo: Results of a Randomized Controlled Proof-of-Concept Trial.

Facial seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is an inflammatory skin disease characterized by erythematous and scaly lesions on the skin with high sebaceous gland activity. The yeast Malassezia is regarded as a key pathogenic driver in this disease, but increased Staphylococcus abundances and barrier dysfunction are implicated as well. Here, we evaluated the antimicrobial peptide omiganan as a treatment for SD since it has shown both antifungal and antibacterial activity. A randomized, patient- and evaluator-blinded trial was performed comparing the four-week, twice daily topical administration of omigan

Evaluation of the effect of botulinum toxin injection in aggravating or improving seborrheic dermatitis symptoms: A prospective, single-arm clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Considering the proven therapeutic effect of botulinum toxin and the pathophysiology of seborrheic dermatitis, conflicting hypotheses have been put forward regarding the effect of injection of this toxin on the improvement or exacerbation of seborrheic dermatitis. Because of the lack of consistent studies investigating this relationship, we decided to conduct this study to investigate the effect of local botulinum toxin injection on sebum production and improvement or worsening of seborrheic dermatitis lesions. METHOD: This study was a prospective, single-arm clinical trial that

Synergism Between Essential Oils and Evaluation of Their Activities with a Focus on Malassezia furfur Control.

Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by Malassezia yeast species that affects the regions of the body where the sebaceous glands are present. The combined use of different essential oils (EOs) can increase their spectrum of action. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the action of EOs alone and in combination with each other on M. furfur, in planktonic and biofilm form, and their anti-inflammatory and mutagenic potential, in addition to the effects on the viability of cells lines. Of the 40 evaluated EOs, 22 showed activity against M. furfur at 0.5 - 2.0 mg/mL c

A rare case report: chronic generalized idiopathic pruritus.

BACKGROUND: Generalized chronic pruritus (CP) can be associated with seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis but often can present without any noticeable diagnosis or obvious skin lesion. When not related to a clear diagnosis, CP can be characterized as idiopathic pruritus. CP is both a diagnostically and therapeutically challenging presentation due to the variety of systemic, dermatological, neurological, and psychogenic diseases that must be ruled out before diagnosing idiopathic pruritus. This presentation is often overlooked but can lead to a greatly diminished quality of life for patients who
