Severe contact dermatitis may arise within days even after the first application. BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: It is a common Indian custom to tie threads on the hip, neck, or wrist of infants and children.
METHODS/RESULTS: A retrospective registry review was performed for 23 children (age range 5-18 months) with threads tied around the hip/neck/forearm who presented with dermatitis. Analysis of one of the threads revealed the presence of three banned azo dyes and disperse yellow 3 (category 2B possible carcinogens).

A novel method was developed for the sensitive and visual detection of p-phenylenediamine (PPD) via immobilizing the target specie PPD on dialdehyde cellulose membrane (DCM) followed by the reaction with salicylaldehyde. BACKGROUND: Hairdressers have a high risk of occupational contact dermatitis caused by exposure to wet work and allergens in hairdressing chemicals.
OBJECTIVES: To examine the distribution of diagnoses of occupational skin diseases (OSDs) and their main causes in hairdressers based on a national register data on occupational diseases.
METHODS: We retrieved cases of recognized OSDs in hairdressers from the Finnish Register of Occupational Diseases (FROD) in years 2005-2018.
RESULTS: During the 14-year period, a total of 290 cases of recognized OSD in hairdressers were registered in the FROD.

BACKGROUND: In Sweden, cobalt chloride 0.5% has been included in the baseline series since the mid-1980s. A recent study from Stockholm showed that cobalt chloride 1% petrolatum (pet.) was more suitable than 0.5%. Cobalt chloride at 1.0% has been patch tested for decades in many European countries and around the world.
OBJECTIVES: To study the suitability of patch testing to cobalt 1.0% vs 0.5% and to analyze the co-occurrence of allergy to cobalt, chromium, and nickel.
RESULTS: Contact allergy to cobalt was shown in 90 patients (6.6%). Eighty (5.9%) patients tested positive to cobalt 1.0%.
