Classification of dermal sensitizers under the globally harmonized system of classification and labelling of chemicals (GHS): A critical review of the principles and current challenges.

The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) is a crucial framework for chemical hazard communication, especially in protecting workers from skin sensitizers. A critical assessment of the principles, issues, and challenges around classification of skin sensitization in GHS is warranted. Classification of dermal sensitizers relies on a weight of evidence (WoE) approach that incorporates human, animal, and non-test data. However, current testing methods have limitations in sensitivity, specificity, and predictive accuracy. Current test methods take into account the issue of potency and thresholds for se

Exploring the link between atopic dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis in patients with skin of color: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Patients with skin of color (SOC) experience increased rates of atopic dermatitis (AD) than the general population and suffer from more severe disease. In addition, patients with SOC experience higher sensitization rates to particular allergens and are patch tested less frequently. Because of these factors, there is a need to assess whether allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) contributes to the higher disease severity in SOC patients with AD. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this review is to systematically evaluate the potential association between ACD and AD in the SOC population. METHODS:

Janus Kinase Inhibitors' Effect on Patch Testing: A Systematic Review.

Janus Kinase (JAK) inhibitors are a growing class of medications with expanding FDA approvals for dermatologic conditions. This class of medications' immunosuppressive effects are well documented in the literature, as well as the associated side effects. Patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis have been shown to have increased rates of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), traditionally diagnosed via cutaneous patch testing. With the increasing use of JAK inhibitors in this population, their interaction with patch testing is vital to ensuring accurate diagnosis of ACD and other allergi

Comparative Efficacy of Coral Calcium Carried Hydrogen versus Dexamethasone in a Mouse Model of Allergic Contact Dermatitis.

INTRODUCTION: Allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) is a common T cell-mediated delayed hypersensitivity reaction characterized by chronic skin inflammation. Coral calcium carried hydrogen (CCH), a novel solid-phase hydrogen carrier, enables sustained hydrogen release and demonstrates superior stability compared to conventional hydrogen delivery methods. However, its therapeutic potential in ACD remains unexplored. METHODS: ACD was induced in female BALB/c mice (8-week-old) using 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB). Mice were divided into four groups: Control, DNCB model, CCH-treated (oral CCH), and
