Occupational anaphylaxis induced by beta-lactam antibiotics exposure in a nurse.

Healthcare workers are exposed to substances that may elicit allergic and irritant reactions, including anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening hypersensitivity reaction. We report the case of a nurse with pre-existing hand contact dermatitis who presented anaphylaxis following exposure to ceftriaxone and piperacillin/tazobactam during drug preparation. Diagnostic testing confirmed an allergy to both antibiotics and latex. The absence of prior therapeutic exposure, combined with skin barrier impairment and contact with spilled drugs, suggests occupational sensitization, most plausibly thro

The definition of response and inadequate response to topical corticosteroid treatment in atopic dermatitis and related skin inflammatory diseases: A GA2LEN ADCARE statement paper.

BACKGROUND: Topical corticosteroids (TCS) remain the first-line treatment for atopic dermatitis (AD) and related inflammatory skin diseases, yet no standardized definition of response exists. This gap contributes to heterogeneity in clinical practice and complicates trial design. We therefore aimed to develop consensus-based definitions of response and inadequate response to TCS therapy through a structured international eDelphi process. METHODS: A PubMed search (1974-July 2025) identified 403 relevant publications. Candidate statements were drafted from the evidence and refined by the ADCARE

Towards credible digital twins for basic and preclinical research.

Atomoxetine (Strattera(R)) is a selective norepinephrine (noradrenaline) reuptake inhibitor that is not classified as a stimulant, and is indicated for use in patients with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Atomoxetine is effective and generally well tolerated. It is significantly more effective than placebo and standard current therapy and does not differ significantly from or is noninferior to immediate-release methylphenidate; however, it is significantly less effective than the extended-release methylphenidate formulation OROS(R) methylphenidate (hereafter referred to as osm

Erbin deficiency exacerbates sepsis‑induced liver injury through mitochondrial ROS/NLRP3‑mediated inflammatory responses.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a rare interstitial lung disease with a poor prognosis that currently lacks effective treatment methods. Preventing the acute exacerbation of IPF, identifying the molecular subtypes of patients, providing personalized treatment, and developing individualized drugs are guidelines for predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine (PPPM / 3PM) to promote the development of IPF. Oxidative stress (OS) is an important pathological process of IPF. However, the relationship between the expression levels of oxidative stress-related genes (OSRGs) an

Structural basis for Mg²⁺-glycine synergy in the tandem glycine riboswitch revealed by cryo-EM.

Part I of this article discussed the potential functional importance of genetic mutations and alleles of the human cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) gene. The impact of CYP2D6 polymorphisms on the clearance of and response to a series of cardiovascular drugs was addressed. Since CYP2D6 plays a major role in the metabolism of a large number of other drugs, Part II of the article highlights the impact of CYP2D6 polymorphisms on the response to other groups of clinically used drugs. Although clinical studies have observed a gene-dose effect for some tricyclic antidepressants, it is difficult to establ

Kyoh® Rocket Leaf Extract Regulates Proliferation and VEGF and FGF7 Expression in Human Dermal Follicle Papilla Cells.

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss for women and men. Current treatments for androgenetic alopecia, such as those based on drugs like Minoxidil, Finasteride, or Dutasteride, have been associated with a variety of side effects, such as irritation, contact dermatitis, scalp pruritus, burning, etc. In this regard, plant extracts have emerged as promising alternatives to available chemical-based treatments for androgenetic alopecia given their efficacy, customer acceptability, and potentially minimized side effects. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of Kyoh®, an ext

Randomized-Controlled Trial Comparing Safety and Efficacy of Repairing Balm vs Topical Antimicrobial for Post-Procedural Wounds.

BACKGROUND: Actinic keratoses (AK) are pre-cancerous, intraepidermal lesions that exist on a continuum with squamous cell carcinoma. Cryotherapy using liquid nitrogen freezing is the most common method for treating AKs. Following cryotherapy, wound care often involves antimicrobial ointments as prophylactics against infection. However, given the rise in antibacterial resistance and possible contact dermatitis, equivalent alternatives should be identified. Cutaneous wound healing is important in dermatologic conditions. OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the safety (adverse events) and efficacy (erythema and

Isothiazolinones as preservatives: physicochemical characteristics, biological activity, and safety assessment.

Isothiazolinones are heterocyclic compounds with potent broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties, commonly used as preservatives in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and industrial products. Their antimicrobial efficacy results from interference with microbial protein and nucleic acid synthesis. However, their limited water solubility and instability under alkaline conditions, elevated temperatures, and UV exposure constrain their formulation and use. Despite regulatory restrictions, especially in the EU, due to their allergenic and toxic potential, exposure remains widespread, particularly through i

Enhancement of pharmacotherapeutic activity of antibiotic "Amphotericin B" due to its photosensitizing properties.

The problem of increasing the efficacy of fungal infection treatment is a pressing issue in modern medicine due to increasing resistance of pathogenic microorganisms to antifungal drugs. At the same time, the development of new antifungal drugs is a complex, lengthy, and expensive task, since there is a close evolutionary relationship between fungal eukaryotes and human somatic cells. The aim of this work is to enhance the pharmacotherapeutic activity of the widely used antifungal polyene antibiotic "Amphotericin B". As a result of in vitro studies using somatic cells, the ability of Amphoteri

Drug Provocation Testing in Allergological Work-Up of DRESS: A Retrospective Real-Life Experience From a Specialist Centre.

BACKGROUND: In drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), cutaneous tests help to identify the responsible drug. However, uncertainty may persist and drug provocation tests (DPTs) could enable contraindications for essential drugs to be avoided. OBJECTIVES: To report the experience of DPTs in a series of DRESS patients managed in a referral centre for severe drug reactions. METHODS: We performed a single-centre retrospective study (October 2015-October 2021) of patients referred for an allergological work-up after DRESS. RESULTS: Seventy-five patients were included (49 f

Moisturising Gloves as a Solution for Occupational Skin Health: Advances and Challenges.

Extended glove usage is crucial in various occupational settings to safeguard workers and maintain hygiene standards. However, prolonged wear creates an occlusive environment that disrupts normal skin evaporation, leading to temporary overhydration. This reversal of the diffusion gradient facilitates the penetration of residual soaps and alcohol from hand hygiene practices, which can deplete skin moisture and cause irritation. Moisturising agents have been integrated into gloves to address occupational dry skin, as conventional lotions often suffer from low compliance and incompatibility with
