Several of the products formed after oxidation of d-limonene exhibit strong contact allergenic properties. Some, e.g., the hydroperoxides, are unstable compounds. In this study, we have examined whether the limonene hydroperoxides are chemically stable in white petrolatum used for patch testing. We describe the cases of three hospital nurses who presented eczematous lesions on the hands and eyelids. They worked in surgery department or in post anaesthesia recovery room, all preparing syringes of Pro-Dafalgan (propacetamol: parenteral paracetamol form). They were not sensitive to oral paracetamol or occupational products and latex. During week-end or holidays when they stopped handling Pro-Dafalgan, the eczema recovered but relapsed on working. A few cases are described in the literature so precautions begin to be preconized for healthcare workers but they are not usually in practice.

In this paper, 159 cases of chloracne contamination, reported from 1969 to 1975, in TCDD-contaminated production of the herbicide 2,4,5-trichlorophenol (2,4,5-T) were followed for mortality and morbidity up to 1996, when blood and urine tests were performed on 50 of these chemical workers ('exposed') and matched controls. Total chromium levels were determined in 38 detergents and 12 bleaches on the market in Israel (45 locally produced, 5 imported). The samples were analyzed by Zeeman-corrected graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Chromium levels were higher than 5 ppm in 28 (56%) of the 50 products, from 1 to 5 ppm in 16 (32%), and lower than 1 ppm in only 6 (12%). Ethoxylated surfactants are susceptible to oxidation upon air exposure. We have previously studied the rate of peroxidation and formaldehyde formation in the chemically well-defined ethoxylated alcohol C12H25(OCH2CH2)5OH.
