Inflammatory dermatopathology remains a challenging area for surgical pathologists. Yet every surgical pathologist encounters inflammatory dermatoses as part of routine practice. This review will focus on selected diagnoses that are either commonly encountered in the routine practice of surgical pathology or are critically important. Lichen simplex chronicus is a skin disease that mostly affects female patients, with a peak incidence between ages 35 and 50 years. On the scalp, it appears as a single or multiple oval lesions, showing scaling and hair shaft loss or breakage. An important dermoscopic feature of the disease are the "broom fibers." Histopathology reveals the "hamburger" and the "gear wheel" signs. The aim of this report is to demonstrate a case of lichen simplex chronicus on the scalp with typical and exuberant clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological findings.

Terra firma-forme dermatosis (TFFD) is a benign and likely underdiagnosed disorder with relatively few reports in the literature. Vulval conditions may present to a variety of clinicians, such as dermatologists, gynaecologists and general practitioners. Women with these conditions are best managed by a multidisciplinary approach, which includes clear referral pathways between disciplines or access to a specialist multidisciplinary vulval service. Informed consent is a prerequisite for all examinations, investigations and treatments. Consent is particularly important for intimate examinations of the anogenital area, and a chaperone should be offered in all cases. All efforts should be made to maintain a patient's dignity.
