Dyshidrosiform bullous pemphigoid is a variant of bullous pemphigoid. At least 84 patients with dyshidrosiform bullous pemphigoid have been described. Dyshidrosiform bullous pemphigoid usually presents with pruritic blisters in elderly individuals; the hemorrhagic or purpuric lesions on the palms and soles can be the only manifestation of the disease. However, bullae may concurrently or subsequently appear on other areas of the patient's body. Patients typically improve after the diagnosis is established and treatment is initiated. The mainstay of therapy is systemic corticosteroids, with or w

As a result of population growth and the development of tube wells, humans' exposure to arsenic has increased over the past few decades. The natural course of organ damage secondary to arsenic exposure is not yet well understood. In Toroku, Japan, an arsenic mine was intermittently operated from 1920 to 1962, and residents were exposed to high concentrations of arsenic. In this paper, we analyzed 190 consecutive residents for whom detailed records of neurological symptoms and findings were obtained from 1974 to 2005. All participants were interviewed regarding the presence of general, skin, he

BACKGROUND: Dyshidrotic eczema (DE) is a common form of eczema affecting the hands, feet, or both areas. To date, there has been little research examining demographics and cost burden associated with this disease.
OBJECTIVE: This study seeks to characterize the demographics of patients affected and the direct costs of care associated with DE.
METHODS: This is a retrospective analysis utilizing insurance claim information from IBM MarketScan. Pertinent data including demographic information, healthcare provider type, medications prescribed, and average cost of care were identified using the I

Dermatoses of the hands and feet cover a wide range of skin diseases that can occur in children and adolescents and are a frequent question in dermatological practice. Our synopsis of the most important differential diagnoses and their treatment is intended to provide better orientation for daily practice. A precise and detailed history is essential to establish a diagnosis, followed by clinical examination and specific examination methods. Cutaneous infection should always be excluded, as they occur very frequently. Impetigo, punctate keratolysis, blistering distal dactylitis, tinea manuum an

We present a case of a 10-year-old boy with a longstanding history of seborrheic dermatitis (SD) referred to the Allergy and Immunology Department for recurrent Kaposi varicelliform eruption (KVE) secondary to herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1) infection and possible primary immunodeficiency. The patient was the second child of non-consanguineous parents, with an older, healthy brother. Family history was negative for primary immunodeficiency and skin disorders. The patient's skin problems began in infancy when he was diagnosed and treated by a dermatologist for SD. From preschool age, he was under the

BACKGROUND: erysipelas is a common infection of the superficial layer of the skin, predominantly caused by groups A β-hemolytic streptococci. It is an acute infection of the skin and frequently affects the legs. It is common in the elderly and favoured by the associated comorbidities. Its occurrence in young healthy people is rare.
AIM: The present study aimed to elucidate factors associated with acute and recurrent erysipelas in a young population.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 147 cases of erysipelas admitted to the dermatology department of the Military Hospital of Tunis, Tunisia,

Secukinumab was the first fully human anti-interleukin-17a monoclonal antibody and successfully treated moderate-severe psoriasis. These new, targeted, medications are becoming more ubiquitous, but long-term side effects are not fully known. Post-market surveillance is crucial to identify delayed adverse events, analogous to the paradoxical development of pustular psoriasis in a subset of patients treated with the anti-tumor necrosis factor-alpha class drugs. Dyshidrotic eczema and pompholyx are rare variants of dermatitis characterized by vesicles or bullae on the palms, soles and sides of th

INTRODUCTION: Turicella otitidis, described as a new species over 20 years ago, has been isolated mainly from the external ear canal and middle ear fluid. Here, we report the first case of palmoplantar eczema related to T. otitidis.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report the first case of palmoplantar eczema in a 74-year-old female related to T. otitidis.
CONCLUSIONS: The question as to whether T. otitidis is a potential pathogen in cases of dyshidrotic eczema is still open, but this could be better elucidated if corynebacteria were speciated more often.
LEARNING POINTS: The coryneform bacteria

New indications are being reported for intradermal botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) owing to its anti-inflammatory and antipruritic actions. Its successful use for dyshidrotic hand eczema and lichen simplex has been reported in a few cases, while its utility in dry palmar eczema not associated with hyperhidrosis has not yet been investigated. The aim of this study was the assessment of the additive efficacy and tolerability of BTX-A in chronic dry palmar eczema. This prospective non-randomized side-by-side comparative study included 30 cases of chronic bilateral dry palmar eczema with no associa

INTRODUCTION: Pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis is an unusual complication of dyshidrotic eczema. The diagnosis has traditionally been made by Kanavel's signs. Point-of-care ultrasound can be a useful adjunct in the diagnosis of this surgical emergency.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of a 23-year-old male who presented with right middle finger pain and swelling and an overlying eczematous rash. The use of point-of-care ultrasound was performed to aid in the diagnosis of pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis. An incision and drainage was performed with deep wound cultures positive for Staphylococcus aure

With a prevalence of up to 20%, eczematous lesions are the most common skin adverse events of tumor necrosis factor alpha inhibitors. Eczematous lesions triggered by more modern biologics such as the IL17A antagonist secukinumab have been rarely reported. Herein, a case of secukinumab-induced pompholyx in a psoriasis patient is presented.

Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) is increasingly used for the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Although skin reactions to IVIg therapy are usually minor, rare, and not life-threatening, dermatologists need to recognize the nature of these adverse reactions. We describe a 33-year-old man suffering from demyelinating polyneuropathy who developed dyshidrotic eczema on the palms and flaky grayish-white scales on an erythematous base on his face after the administration of IVIg.

Dyshidrotic eczema (DE) or acute palmoplantar eczema is a common cause of hand and foot dermatitis in adults. It is a recurrent vesicular eruption affecting the soles, palms, or both. It is very pruriginous and generally appears suddenly. It creates vesicles that, on physical examination, can look similar to "tapioca pudding", which is the characteristic clinical feature of this disorder. It is more common in young adults and affects men and women equally. In this report, we present the case of a 56-year-old man with no relevant past medical history who presented to the hospital with vesicular
