Towards the definition of disease phenotypes in paediatric SAPHO syndrome: a national multicentric study.

OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to confirm the presence of different disease phenotypes of paediatric SAPHO syndrome (pSAPHO) based on their skin manifestations in a large cohort of Italian patients. METHODS: Patients with pSAPHO were enrolled in the Eurofever Registry and the data retrospectively analysed. The patients were categorized according to their skin manifestations into an acne - hidradenitis suppurativa (Acne-HS) group and a palmoplantar pustulosis - psoriasis vulgaris (PPP-PV) group and were compared with patients without skin manifestations (chronic non-bacterial oste

Efficacy and safety of various drug combinations in treating plaque Psoriasis: A meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the skin, joints, and nails (2-3% worldwide), significantly affects quality of life. Genetic and environmental factors also play key roles. Topical corticosteroids, calcineurin inhibitors, and oral corticosteroids help to manage plaque psoriasis symptoms, but combination therapies might offer greater effectiveness and improved safety profiles. These combinations could potentially reduce medication dosages and side effects in patients. OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy and safety of various drug combinations over conventional mono

Hyperglycemia Is a Potential Prognostic Factor for Exacerbation in Severe Psoriasis with Diabetes or Prediabetes.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is an immune-mediated skin disease with a chronic relapsing-remitting course. Hyperglycemia has been shown to correlate with psoriasis severity. However, whether it could trigger psoriasis flares is not known. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the association between hyperglycemia and psoriasis exacerbation. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study at a university-affiliated hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, between 2008 and 2022 to examine the effects of elevated HbA1c on psoriasis flares. Patients with psoriasis vulgaris and either type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or im

Interleukin-13 in immunohistochemistry: implications for Grover disease, morphea, and immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced bullous pemphigoid.

Interleukin-13 (IL-13), a key T-helper 2 cytokine, has a central role in type 2 inflammation and is implicated in various skin disorders. This study investigated the IL-13 immunohistochemical expression in skin biopsies from patients with atopic dermatitis (AD), psoriasis vulgaris, morphea, Grover's disease, and immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced bullous pemphigoid (ICI-BP). AD biopsies showed the highest IL-13 expression (mean 27.4%), consistent with its established role in the pathogenesis. Psoriasis displayed moderate positivity (mean 8.62%), indicating IL-13's possible involvement in hybr

Restless Legs Syndrome in Psoriasis: A Multicenter Study on Its Prevalence, Severity, and Impact on Patients.

PURPOSE: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease often associated with multiple comorbidities, including restless leg syndrome (RLS). However, the prevalence and impact of RLS on quality of life and clinical outcomes in patients with psoriasis remain underexplored, particularly in Asian populations. In this study, we compared the prevalence of RLS in patients with psoriasis and healthy controls and evaluated the association between RLS and quality of life, sleep disturbances, and clinical severity of psoriasis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This multicenter, cross-sectional study involved 21

Next-Generation Anti-IL-17 Agents for Psoriatic Disease: A Pipeline Review.

Innovations in biologics are transforming the treatment of psoriatic diseases. The ability to target specific levels of immune activation provides a distinct advantage. Interleukin (IL)-17 inhibitors fall into this class of biologics, and they are effectively used to treat a spectrum of psoriatic diseases, such as psoriasis vulgaris and psoriatic arthritis. In recent years, anti-IL-17 agents have been the focus of therapeutic development, with various formulations and routes of administration. In this manuscript, we review pipeline anti-IL-17 therapies for psoriatic diseases identified through

QingReDu capsule ameliorates psoriasis vulgaris by regulating EZH2/NF-κB signaling pathway.

QingReDu Capsule is commonly used clinically to treat psoriasis vulgaris, the mechanism of treating psoriasis vulgaris is still unclear. Using the ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS), we analyzed the components in rat plasma after QingReDu Capsule administration. We then predicted the mechanistic pathways of QingReDu Capsule in ameliorating psoriasis vulgaris by screening the intersecting targets of the QingReDu Capsule plasma entry components and psoriasis vulgaris using network pharmacology and molecular docking. Combined wit

Comparative study between botulinum toxin and topical steroid in treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated systemic and chronic disease that can affect males and females equally. Treatments of psoriasis may and may not be effective and is based on the patients' case and severity. There is currently no cure but treatments generally can help to control the symptoms. This work aims to compare the safety and efficacy of botulinum toxin as an intralesional injection versus topical steroid in treatment of plaque psoratic patients by evaluating the PASI score as well as the clinical improvement of the cases. Twenty patients with psoriasis vulgaris were included in the study

Risk of HBV reactivation in psoriasis vulgaris patients receiving biological agent therapy.

OBJECTIVE: In recent years, the frequency of use of biological agents in the treatment of many dermatological diseases has been increasing. While effective, these treatments may carry the risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation, particularly in patients with underlying or resolved HBV infection. Data on the risk of reactivation—especially with newer IL-23 antagonists that treat psoriasis vulgaris such as risankizumab and guselkumab, and IL-17 antagonists such as ixekizumab and secukinumab—remain limited. The aim of this study was to investigate HBV seroprevalence in patients with psoriasi

Platelet-related parameters as systemic markers of erythrodermic psoriasis.

Erythrodermic psoriasis (EP) is a severe disease with systemic inflammation and complications. The pathogenesis remains largely unknown. Recent studies have shown that platelets play important roles in psoriasis, but the association between platelets and EP is unclear. This study aimed to analyse, for the first time, the clinical significance of platelet-related parameters in EP patients. We retrospectively investigated the clinical and laboratory data of 92 EP patients, 93 sex/age-matched psoriasis vulgaris (PsV) patients, and 93 matched healthy controls (HC). The platelet-related parameters,

Causal relationships between schizophrenia and psoriasis: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

BACKGROUND: Numerous clinical studies have investigated the association between schizophrenia and psoriasis, but the findings remain inconsistent. METHODS: We employed Mendelian randomization (MR) methods to evaluate the causal relationship between schizophrenia and psoriasis and its subtypes. Inverse variance weighting was used as the primary approach for MR analysis, complemented by inverse magnetic resonance analysis and sensitivity testing. To identify potential mediators, we applied a two-step MR approach. Additionally, pathway and functional enrichment analyses were conducted to uncover

Hard-to-Treat Areas in Psoriasis: An Underevaluated Part of the Disease.

Hard-to-treat areas in psoriasis vulgaris, i.e., the scalp, nails, genital area, palms, and soles, are less commonly diagnosed and treated. Our understanding of the complex etiopathogenesis and treatment of psoriasis vulgaris has advanced considerably in recent years. After performing an English literature search, the present article is a comprehensive review based on several relevant articles. The articles included met the following criteria: they mentioned the "hard-to-treat areas, special sites, difficult-to-treat areas" or the specific body location of psoriasis, and they reported the psor

Refractory ulcers of both legs with psoriasis vulgaris successfully treated with dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane: A case report.

Patients with psoriasis are particularly susceptible to skin damage and secondary infections due to impaired skin defenses and chronic inflammation. This case report describes an 80-year-old male with psoriasis vulgaris and a refractory venous stasis ulcer that successfully achieved epithelialization following treatment with dehydrated human amnion/chorion membrane (dHACM; EPIFIX®). Despite initial management involving infection control and wound debridement, the ulcer exhibited minimal improvement until the application of dHACM. Within 4 wk, substantial wound contraction and epithelialization
