Use of narrow-band ultraviolet B in pediatric dermatology patients: ten years of experience from a tertiary care hospital.

Narrow-band UVB (NB-UVB) phototherapy is a safe and effective treatment for pediatric skin disorders. We aimed to present the results of our 10-year experience of the efficacy and safety of NB-UVB phototherapy in children. We collected data from the phototherapy records of children aged < 17 years who received treatment between January 2013 and June 2023. The study included 108 patients, of whom 58 (53.7%) were female and 50 (46.3%) were male, with an average age of 12.6 years (range, 5-16 years). The most common skin diseases treated with NB-UVB phototherapy were psoriasis vulgaris (n = 40, 3

Role of SLC16A10 in Psoriasis Through the Regulation of Arachidonic Acid Metabolism in Keratinocytes.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory dermatological condition challenging to treat and prone to recurrence. The pathogenesis of psoriasis is closely associated with metabolic disorders, while therapies targeting the dysregulated metabolism in psoriasis remain limited. Therefore, exploring the pathogenesis of psoriasis and identifying potential metabolic therapeutic targets is imperative. In this study, potential biomarkers for clinically targeted metabolic therapies in patients with psoriasis are aimed to be identified. RNA-sequencing analysis is performed on metabolism-related genes to identify diffe

The causal effect between psoriasis and male reproductive health, and the mediating effect of serum inflammatory factors and metabolites.

The relationship between psoriasis and male reproductive health has sparked extensive research. But the causal relationship and direction remain unknown. To examine the causal association between psoriasis and male reproductive health, and to investigate the role of serum inflammatory factor and metabolites as mediators. A 2-step Mendelian randomization analysis was utilized. Inverse variance weighted method to explore the causal effects. The Cochran Q test was employed to assess the heterogeneity. The Mendelian randomization-Egger and Mendelian randomization-PRESSO method was used to explore

New-Onset Guttate Psoriasis Induced by Durvalumab: Potential Role of Bisoprolol.

Durvalumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor targeting programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), used in the treatment of various advanced cancers. Immune checkpoint inhibitors are associated with immune-related adverse events, mainly affecting the skin and digestive system. Immune-mediated psoriasis has been observed in patients treated with durvalumab. We report a case of new-onset psoriasis in a patient treated concomitantly with durvalumab and bisoprolol, prescribed for a well-differentiated keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma of the upper right lung and for sinus tachycardia, respectively. Topi

Clinical and Demographic Characteristics of Pediatric Patients With Psoriasis: Age-Related Variations and Remission Predictors.

This retrospective study of 110 pediatric patients with psoriasis identified significant age-related variations in the clinical presentation and key predictors of remission. The prevalence of chronic plaque psoriasis increased with age, whereas guttate psoriasis, which is strongly associated with elevated ASO titers, was more common in younger children. The median time to remission progressively increases with age. Older age (≥ 11 years), chronic plaque morphology, higher baseline PASI scores (≥ 10), and nail involvement were independent predictors of longer time to remission. Conversely, biol

Guttate Psoriasis: Another Kid With an Itchy Rash.

Guttate psoriasis (GP) is a variant of psoriasis. Approximately 2-4% of the world population is affected by psoriasis; of this, about 30% will be diagnosed with guttate psoriasis. GP primarily affects children and young adults. Like other psoriasis, guttate psoriasis is an immune-mediated dermatological disorder. GP is distinct, given it is classically an acute rash following a streptococcal infection.

Recognizing Guttate Psoriasis in Primary Care: A Pediatric Case Report Following a Streptococcal Pharyngitis Infection.

Guttate psoriasis is a dermatological condition that can present suddenly and progress rapidly, often prompting patients to seek medical evaluation. Although a well-recognized condition in dermatology, guttate psoriasis may be unfamiliar to pediatric primary care healthcare providers (HCPs). This case report emphasizes the importance of recognizing guttate psoriasis as a potential sequela of Group A Streptococcus (GAS) infection, particularly in children and adolescents. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of thorough history-taking and a physical assessment to support accurate diagnose

From Infection to Autoimmunity: S. pyogenes as a Model Pathogen.

Group A β-hemolytic Streptococcus (GAS) is a Gram-positive, coccoid-shaped bacterium that tends to grow in chains; it is a non-spore-forming, facultatively anaerobic, catalase-negative, aerobic bacterium. It is known to cause a wide range of infections in children, ranging from mild upper respiratory tract infections, such as pharyngitis, to severe invasive disease. GAS also notably triggers post-infectious immune sequelae, including acute poststreptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN), acute rheumatic fever (ARF), and rheumatic heart disease (RHD), which are major health burdens, especially in

Interesting Mucocutaneous Manifestations in COVID-19 Infection or Vaccination Confirmed by Histopathology: A Case Series.

INTRODUCTION: Mucocutaneous complications or adverse events due to SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination have been well delineated in the literature, respectively. Most eruptions are considered mild and self-limiting; however, for the atypical cases with a tentative clinical diagnosis, performing a biopsy and histopathological assessment is pivotal to confirm the diagnosis and subsequently prescribe a more tailored treatment. Despite the diverse reporting of such incidents globally, most studies restrict the rate of biopsied cases to less than 15%. CASE PRESENTATIONS: This case series elucidate

Comparison of metabolic and neurological comorbidities in Asian patients with psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.

Although various comorbidities have been noted to be associated with atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis, few studies have compared comorbidities between the two diseases, and little is known about whether these comorbidities vary by the subtypes of psoriasis. In this study of 1:1 age- and sex-matched pair analysis between patients diagnosed with either psoriasis or AD at Asan Medical Center between 1991 and 2020, comorbidities, as determined by the International Classification of Diseases-10 codes, and likelihood ratios of metabolic and neurologic comorbidities in psoriasis compared with AD

SAPHO syndrome is a complex disease that encompasses both inflammatory arthritis and/or osteitis and dermatologic manifestations. It is considered a rare disease, in fact, no clinical trials have been conducted on its therapy and management. Therefore, therapeutic approach is based on small case studies. Here, we described the case of a 63-year-old woman affected by SAPHO syndrome, treated with the selective IL-23p19 antagonist, Risankizumab, after unsuccessful therapies with Methotrexate, Infliximab, Adalimumab, and an allergic reaction to Secukinumab. At the beginning of therapy, in November

Clinical Characteristics and Therapeutic Aspects of Blaschko Linear Psoriasis.

INTRODUCTION: Blaschko linear psoriasis (BLP) is characterized by the linear distribution of psoriatic skin lesions along the Blaschko lines. BLP can be divided into type I and type II, mainly on the basis of clinical manifestations. BLP can easily cause psychological burdens in patients and clinical confusion for physicians. Here, we summarize clinical cases to provide a better understanding of BLP. METHODS: The subjects included patients with BLP who visited our dermatology departments and those reported in the literature obtained from the PubMed and Wanfang databases. Quantitative data wer
