Skin biopsies of patients with small and large plaque parapsoriasis, premycotic lesions and mycosis fungoides in different stages were examined. Special attention was paid to the relationships between Langerhans cells (LC) and the neighbouring keratinocytes and lymphocytes. Antibody-dependent cytotoxicity mediated by purified blood monocytes were determined in untreated patients with plaque-stage mycosis fungoides (MF), parapsoriasis en plaques, exfoliating erythroderma, and noncutaneous malignant lymphoma. A case of disciform erythrasma is presented. This unusual manifestation of a common cutaneous infection may mimic other dermatologic disorders, including lichen sclerosus et atrophicus and plaque-type parapsoriasis. The condition is characterized by an atrophic appearing surface, located in nonintertriginous areas. Appropriate diagnostic procedures easily differentiate disciform erythrasma. These include Wood's light examination, potassium hydroxide preparation, and skin scrapings or tissue sections stained with Gram stain, periodic acid-Schiff, Giemsa, or methylene blue.

Thirty-one patients with early mycosis fungoides (MF) and three patients with parapsoriasis en plaques were treated with ultraviolet phototherapy (280 to 350 nm) at home using a commercially available light source containing four Westinghouse FS40 lamps. The morphological alterations of involved skin in three different types of parapsoriasis were investigated in 9 patients by electron microscopy. Selective UV-Phototherapy with lambda 300-320 nm (SUP) as well as oral photochemotherapy with 8-methoxy-psoralene plus UVA-radiation (PUVA intern) are very effective in clearing the lesions of th generalized psoriasis and those of the chronic forms of parapsoriasis. The terms chronic superficial dermatitis and poikiloderma have in the past both been called parapsoriasis en plaques although they are entirely different disorders. Chronic superficial dermatitis is benign and does not advance to a reticulosis. Poikiloderma of the prereticulate type, on the other hand, may progress and may be the cause of death in some cases. It should no longer be considered a separate entity but should be regarded as part of the spectrum of mycosis fungoides.

Thirty-five cases of benign parapsoriasis en plaques, 24 cases of prereticulotic poikiloderma (3 of which were in evolution towards polymorphous lymphomas), 15 cases of lymphoma and 10 cases of other various skin proliferative disorders were studied.
