Childhood skin rashes are frequently evaluated by primary care physicians and are often diagnosed by recognition of distinguishing features. Atopic dermatitis affects 15% to 20% of children, usually with onset before the age of 2 years. Treatment is based on severity and begins with emollients and topical steroids. Erythema infectiosum presents with the slapped cheek rash that progresses to reticular lesions on the trunk and extremities. Hand-foot-and-mouth disease presents with painful oral ulcers and vesicular eruption of the hands, feet, buttocks, and genitals. Nonbullous impetigo is charac

Syphilis is an infectious sexually transmitted disease that has re-emerged as a major global public health concern, with a steadily increasing incidence in many regions of the world. It is primarily spread through sexual contact, but can also be transmitted from mother to foetus during pregnancy and, rarely, through blood transfusion. It is estimated that millions of people are affected by syphilis globally, although the exact number of infectious individuals varies by region and is difficult to determine precisely. Despite advances in diagnostic methods and the availability of effective antib

The most well-known skin manifestation of human parvovirus B19 infection is erythema infectiosum, also known as fifth disease. In atypical cases, particularly among young adults, purpuric-petechial glove-and-sock syndrome (PPGSS) is observed, which is a condition characterized by a symmetrical distribution in the acral areas. Its onset is attributed to the active viremia phase; therefore, patients exhibiting symptoms are contagious, which is of particular importance in the case of immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women. In our report, we present three cases: in two patients, the skin

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a self-limited papulosquamous skin condition most commonly observed in children and young adults. Atypical variants of PR have been increasingly recognized, particularly those with unusual morphology, distribution, or disease course. Acral involvement is rare and may pose diagnostic challenges, especially in pediatric patients. We report the case of a 15-year-old previously healthy Saudi male patient who presented with a persistent erythematous and scaly eruption lasting for more than three months. The eruption involved the trunk and extremities and showed prominent ac

INTRODUCTION: Pityriasis rosea is a self-limited inflammatory skin condition most commonly associated with systemic active viral infection, particularly human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 and HHV-7. Generally appearing as a herald patch, the rash subsequently spreads, commonly in a "Christmas tree" pattern on the back. There are atypical variants in which pityriasis rosea can present, making diagnosis challenging. This case is unique in that pityriasis rosea was misidentified, and it was only confirmed following histopathologic examination. Due to misidentification, there was an exacerbation of disease

Pityriasis rosea (PR) represents a frequently occurring, acute, self-limiting papulosquamous disorder with complicated and undetermined pathogenesis, and there are no definite tissue markers or drug targets. Thus, the clinical treatment of this disease is challenging. Recent studies have partly unraveled correlations of trace elements with the onset and development of skin diseases. This study utilized the Mendelian randomization (MR) strategy to excavate the causality between trace elements and PR. A forward and multivariate MR analysis was implemented on trace elements and PR to infer the ca

Pityriasis Lichenoides et varioliformis acuta (PLEVA) is a rare, idiopathic, inflammatory dermatosis representing the acute end of the pityriasis lichenoides spectrum. It usually affects children and young adults, whereas occurrence in older individuals is distinctly uncommon. We report a 53-year-old male laborer who presented with multiple, discrete, erythematous, itchy papuloplaque lesions over the back and neck for 8 days. There were no systemic symptoms. Clinical differentials included pityriasis rosea and PLEVA. Histopathological examination of a punch biopsy revealed mild acanthosis, foc

INTRODUCTION: Erythemato-squamous disease (ESD) is a skin disorder characterized by both erythema and squamous changes. These conditions often involve inflammation and can manifest with various symptoms, such as itching, burning, and discomfort. However, distinguishing between different conditions solely based on external symptoms may be challenging and lead to misdiagnosis.
AIM: To overcome these issues, this work proposes a novel deep learning-based Hexa-ESD framework to efficiently classify clinical skin images into hexa skin diseases.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Initially, the clinical skin im

Background Tinea corporis is a common superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes. It typically presents as well-defined, pruritic, annular papules and plaques with central hypopigmentation. The differential diagnosis includes pityriasis rosea, nummular dermatitis, plaque psoriasis, tinea versicolor, granuloma annulare, and discoid lupus. This article compares different presentations of tinea corporis in various skin types as classified by the Fitzpatrick scale. Recognizing varying presentations of tinea in patients of different skin tones will aid in early and appropriate diagnosis a

Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a significant cause of morbidity and represent an important public health concern. Cutaneous adverse drug reactions (CADRs) are the most frequently encountered form of ADRs, with antibiotics being among the leading causative drug classes. Although amoxicillin-clavulanate is widely regarded as a safe and commonly prescribed antibiotic, rare and atypical cutaneous reactions may occur and pose diagnostic challenges. We report a rare case of amoxicillin-clavulanate-induced pityriasis rosea in a 34-year-old male who presented with a progressive pruritic and painful

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, pruritic inflammatory skin condition with a complex pathogenesis and variable clinical presentation, often overlapping with other dermatologic diseases. This article considers the differential diagnoses for AD, emphasizing the importance of accurately distinguishing it from both common and rare conditions. Among inflammatory dermatoses, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, allergic and irritant contact dermatitis, lichen simplex chronicus, and pityriasis rosea share overlapping features but can be differentiated based on history, distribution, and morphology.

The month of March is dedicated to Colon Cancer Awareness. Worldwide, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence has been on the rise. It is currently the third most common cancer in men (746,000 cases, 10.0% of the total) and the second in women (614,000 cases, 9.2% of the total).1 Arecent meta-analysis reported a 61% risk reduction in CRC incidence with colonoscopy.2 Unlike screening programs for breast and prostate cancers, not only has CRC screening reduced mortality from colon cancer and detected early CRC, it has also decreased the incidence of CRC through detection and removal of pre-cancerous l

Sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction is one of the most common complications of sepsis. It is also a major cause of death in pediatric intensive care units. The underlying mechanism of sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction remains elusive. Cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRP) is a damage-associated molecular pattern that is up-regulated during sepsis. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been shown to play a protective role in sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction in adult animals. The present study aimed to determine whether H2S ameliorates the cardiac function in infant rats by inhibiting CIRP-mediated s

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a prevalent dermatological condition characterized by a distinctive herald patch, followed by secondary eruptions, often forming a "Christmas tree" pattern on the trunk. Despite its recognizable clinical presentation, the etiology of PR remains uncertain, with hypotheses pointing to both infectious and noninfectious origins. Human herpesviruses (HHV) 6 and 7 have been implicated, with evidence suggesting viral reactivation as a potential trigger. Epidemiologically, PR affects children, adolescents, and young adults, with a higher incidence in females. The condition is

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is an acute exanthematous disease with an uncertain physiopathology, increasingly recognized as potentially drug induced. This study aims to investigate medication triggers associated with PR by analyzing cases reported in the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database. A retrospective review of 343 PR cases reported in the FAERS database from January 1, 1998, to March 31, 2024, was conducted. Reporting odds ratios (ROR) were calculated to assess associations between PR and specific drug classes, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors and angiotensin-co

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is a self-limited exanthem associated with the endogenous systemic reactivation of human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 and HHV-7. The disease typically begins with a single erythematous patch on the trunk (herald patch), followed by a secondary eruption of smaller papulosquamous lesions. Rarely, the herald patch may be the only cutaneous manifestation of PR. The present work aimed to examine the clinical and laboratory features of the PR cases characterized by the herald patch as the sole cutaneous manifestation and to compare them with the classic form of PR. An observational, ret

Methamphetamine abuse is a growing global health concern, recognized for its highly addictive properties and severe effects on the human body. Commonly referred to as crystal, chalk, or ice, methamphetamine is a synthetic stimulant that can be administered in various ways. Methamphetamine abuse is associated with a spectrum of oral health issues known as "meth mouth," including rampant teeth caries, extensive occlusal tooth wear, periodontal diseases, xerostomia, bruxism, and poor oral hygiene. Despite the significant oral health impact, the exact pathogenesis remains unclear due to the limite
