Malignant Transformation of Hypertrophic Lichen Planus in a Young Pregnant Woman: A Case Report.

In this article, we report a case of hypertrophic lichen planus transforming into cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in a 24-year-old Indian woman at 34 weeks of gestational age. We hypothesize that immunologic alterations during pregnancy could transform a long-standing hypertrophic lichen planus into cutaneous neoplasm.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Lymph Node Metastasis with Hypertrophic Lichen Planus in a 12 Year Old Boy.

Hypertrophic lichen planus (HLP) is a chronic variant of lichen planus with an estimated risk of 0.4% developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in later years. We report the case of a 12-year- old boy with history of hypertrophic lichen planus since 4 years of age, with malignant transformation into squamous cell carcinoma along with lymph node metastasis.

Giant Squamous Cell Carcinoma on Chronic Lichen Planus on the Ankle - A Case Report and Short Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common malignancy of skin. Although a major risk factor is a chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation, preexistent chronic inflammatory disorders may also possess an increased risk for SCC. That is not the case for cutaneous lichen planus in contrast to oral lichen planus and oral SCC. CASE REPORT: We report the case of an 87-year-old Caucasian woman presenting with a giant verrucous tumour on the left ankle. She suffered from long-standing disseminated lichen planus. Histology confirmed the diagnosis of SCC on partly ver

Radiation induced lichen planus - an uncommon side effect.

Cutaneous lichen planus is classically characterized by violaceous, pruritic, planar papules and plaques, most commonly affecting the extremities. Lichen planus following radiation therapy is extremely rare and lichen planus following radiation therapy for prostate carcinoma has not been previously reported in the literature. We report a 66-year-old man who presented to the dermatology clinic with a symmetric pruritic eruption affecting the pelvic and gluteal region within two months of radiation therapy targeting the prostate and pelvic lymph nodes for prostate adenocarcinoma. The patient did

Nivolumab reactivation of hypertrophic lichen planus, a case report and review of published literature.

We report a case of nivolumab-induced lichen planus (LP) reactivation that was previously in remission following chemotherapy for non-smallcelllung cancer (NSCLC). Chemotherapy-induced immunosuppression allowed for complete resolution of the patient's pre-existing LP, a T-cell mediatedautoimmune process. When the patient was switched to nivolumab immunotherapy owing to progression of NSCLC, PD-1 inhibition led to an overwhelming T-cell response that seemed to have provoked a severe LPreactivation. Although lichenoid reactions have been reported with nivolumab, to our knowledge, this is the fir

Coinheritance of 2 New Potentially Damaging Heterozygous COL7A1 Variants in a Family With Autosomal Dominant Epidermolysis Bullosa Pruriginosa.

Epidermolysis bullosa pruriginosa (EBP) is a rare subtype of EB which is characterized by intense pruritus with blistering and nodular or lichenoid lesions most prominent on the lower extremities. It is caused by variants in COL7A1 which encodes for type VII collagen. There is wide phenotypic and genotypic variability between affected individuals. We report 2 potentially pathogenic variants in COL7A1 occurring on the same allele in a family with EBP and autosomal dominant inheritance. Late-onset EBP and incomplete penetrance may lead to delayed presentation in affected family members with the

Using Stratum Corneum Thickness and Configuration to Distinguish Lichenoid Dermatoses.

BACKGROUND: Clues in the stratum corneum (SC) can aide in histopathologic diagnosis of many conditions. OBJECTIVE: To determine if SC configuration and thickness could help differentiate the lichenoid dermatoses. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed. A total of 305 cases (55 lichenoid keratosis, 51 lichen planus, 7 hypertrophic lichen planus, 40 lichenoid drug eruption, 19 lichenoid graft-vs.-host disease, 14 hypertrophic lupus, 46 lichenoid actinic keratosis, 73 lentigo maligna) fulfilled the selection criteria. Cases were digitally scanned using the 40× (0.23 μm/pixel) mode of a Ha

Squamous cell carcinoma arising in hypertrophic lichen planus.

Hypertrophic lichen planus (HLP) is a chronic T-cell-mediated inflammatory disease characterised by pruritic hypertrophic or verrucous plaques on the lower limbs. We report a case of an 87-year-old woman with a 12-year history of HLP on both lower legs presenting with malignant transformation of one lesion into a squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Malignancy developing in cutaneous lichen planus is rare, with less than 50 cases reported in the literature. This case highlights the need to be aware of suspicious changes in long-standing HLP to allow early detection of a developing SCC.

Hypertrophic Lichen Planus Mimicking Verrucous Lupus Erythematosus.

Lichen planus is an inflammatory skin condition that can affect the hair, mucous membranes, nails, and skin. Cutaneous lichen planus typically presents as papules that are planar, polygonal, pruritic, and purple. Subtypes of lichen planus include actinic, annular, atrophic, eruptive, follicular, hypertrophic, inverse, linear, palmoplantar, pemphigoides, pigmentosus, ulcerative, vesiculobullous, and vulvovaginal. The various clinical presentations of lichen planus can mimic other dermatologic conditions. A 63-year-old woman, who presented with pruritic, hyperkeratotic plaques on the lower legs

Hypertrophic recurring lichen planus of the external auditory canal.

INTRODUCTION: We report a case of unilateral progressive primary hypertrophic lichen planus of the external auditory canal requiring several surgical interventions to deal with constant pruritus, otorrhoea, stenosis and conductive hearing loss. CASE SUMMARY: A 58-year-old woman was initially treated with meatoplasty for suspected chronic obliterating otitis externa. She remained symptom-free for 5 years, before the disease recurred, affecting other body surfaces as well. Otorrhoea, conductive hearing loss and pruritus worsened, and a canal wall down tympanomastoidectomy was performed, removin

Lichen planus hypertrophicus of the vulva - a rare entity.

Vulvovaginal lichen planus is a type of chronic inflammatory dermatosis of the vulva, usually seen as a part of widespread lichen planus. The common clinical types of vulval lichen planus include papulosquamous, erosive and pigmented types. Hypertrophic lichen planus of the vulva is a rare entity. We report a case of hypertrophic lichen planus of the vulva which clinically simulated genital warts.

Anaphylaxis following intralesional triamcinolone acetonide (Kenacort) injection.

Intralesional triamcinolone acetonide injection is indicated for multiple skin conditions such as keloid scars, alopecia areata, and hypertrophic lichen planus. Immediate hypersensitivity reaction remains uncommon. We report on a 24-year-old woman who had received multiple intralesional injections with triamcinolone acetonide (Kenacort) plus lidocaine for keloid scar treatment without any reaction for the previous 10 years. The immediate reaction occurred 15 minutes after injection, with numbness on her face and 5 minutes later with urticaria on her chest wall and upper extremities, together w

A single case study of treating hypertrophic lichen planus with Ayurvedic medicine.

Ayurvedic medicines are often considered effective for chronic and lifestyle disorders. Hypertrophic lichen planus (HLP) is a rare inflammatory skin condition and develops into squamous cell carcinoma in few cases. It has resemblance with Charma Kushtha mentioned in Ayurvedic classics. Conventional therapy used in this condition is unsatisfactory and is not free from side effects. A case of long-standing systemic steroid-dependent HLP is presented here which was intervened successfully with Ayurvedic modalities.
