The causal effects between autoimmune thyroid disease and urticaria: evidence from a Mendelian randomization study.

Previous studies have suggested a comorbidity between autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) and urticaria. However, the causal effects between AITD and urticaria remain unclear. This study employed genome-wide association study (GWAS) data to analyze the associations between AITD and urticaria through bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR), meanwhile, examined the role of 731 immune traits as mediators between the two diseases through mediation analysis. The IVW results indicated that Graves' disease (GD) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) have a potential risk effect on urticaria, particularly

Chronic Dermatographic Urticaria Secondary to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) poses significant challenges in diagnosis and management due to its diverse clinical manifestations, including various skin abnormalities. Chronic dermatographic urticaria, although less recognized, has been suggested to have an association with SLE; however, evidence supporting this connection remains limited. We present a case of chronic dermatographic urticaria secondary to SLE in a 26-year-old female. Despite ineffective conventional treatments, the initiation of hydroxyzine resulted in notable symptom improvement without adverse effects. This case underl

Exploring the Bidirectional Effects of Gut Microbiota and Short-Chain Fatty Acids on Urticaria Subtypes Through Mendelian Randomization and Mediation Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Emerging evidence links gut microbiota and their by-products, notably short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), to urticaria. This study employs multiple Mendelian Randomization (MR) analyses to unravel the complex interactions among gut microbiota, SCFAs, and different subtypes of urticaria, aiming to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and enhance future clinical research. METHODS: We analyzed published genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics to identify associations between gut microbiota and three common subtypes of urticaria: spontaneous, dermatographic, and temperatur

Unraveling the causative connection between urticaria, inflammatory cytokines, and mental disorders: Perspectives from genetic evidence.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

BACKGROUND: The genetic association between urticaria and mental disorders and whether inflammatory cytokines mediate this process remains unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A Mendelian randomization (MR) approaches to elucidate the causal relationship between urticaria and mental disorders and to validate the mediation of inflammatory cytokines. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) databases used were obtained from Psychiatric Genomics Cooperation (PGC), GWAS Catalog, and FinnGen Consortium. Our study was conducted using inverse variance weighted (IVW) and Bayesian weighted MR (BWMR) methods fo

Predictors of Response to Oral Medications and Low-Histamine Diet in Patients with Chronic Urticaria.

BACKGROUND: Chronic urticaria (CU) is comprised of diverse phenotypes, and thus, a shift towards a precision medical approach is warranted in its management. METHODS: This study enrolled 78 patients with CU. Serum erythrocyte sedimentation rate, hemoglobin, hematocrit, eosinophil count, IgE, antinuclear antibody (ANA), and serum diamine oxidase (DAO) levels of the patients were measured and were compared according to the patient's response to second-generation antihistamines (sgAH), corticosteroids, leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA), H2 blockers, and low-histamine diet. RESULTS: Age- an

Omalizumab on Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria and Chronic Inducible Urticaria: A Real-World Study of Efficacy and Predictors of Treatment Outcome.

BACKGROUND: Omalizumab is a very important drug for the treatment of chronic urticaria. Although omalizumab's therapeutic efficacy has been demonstrated, data on real-world experiences in Korea, especially regarding chronic inducible urticaria (CIndU), are limited. This study attempted to compare the efficacy of omalizumab in Korean chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) and CIndU patients. METHODS: Fifty-two CSU and 29 CIndU patients were included and Urticaria Activity Score 7 (UAS7) at baseline, week 4, and week 12 was assessed retrospectively. RESULTS: Omalizumab 150 mg significantly decrea

Clinical and laboratory examinations in the subgroups of chronic urticaria.

BACKGROUND: The aetiology of chronic urticaria is heterogeneous. Physical urticaria (PU) is estimated at around 35%, autoimmune urticaria (AIU) at 25% and chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) at 35% of all chronic urticaria cases. METHODS: Differences in clinical and laboratory parameters among AIU, PU and CIU groups were examined. AIU was diagnosed if the basophil CD63 assay was positive. Demographic data, severity of symptoms and association with allergic and autoimmune diseases were analysed by the aid of a questionnaire. Immunoassays were carried out and the effectiveness of therapy was als

Dermatographism in a horse.

An eight-year-old Thoroughbred gelding with dermatographic urticaria is presented. Forelimb edema and generalized urticaria were the presenting clinical signs. All hematologic and serum biochemical values were normal. Immunologic and histologic evaluation failed to reveal specific abnormalities. During hospitalization, an urticarial response to mechanical pressure (dermatographism) was identified. Clinical responses to corticosteroid and antihistaminic (H1) therapy were equivocal. The condition resolved in five weeks and an etiology was not discovered. A discussion of the pathogenesis, diagnos

Antihistamines in the treatment of urticarial disorders.

A number of studies of the effects of antihistamines on chronic idiopathic urticaria and itch are reviewed. In chronic idiopathic urticaria, terfenadine has been shown to control the number, size, and duration of skin whealing as well as itch. Likewise, in chronic dermatographic urticaria, the minimal force required to produce whealing is increased, while severity of itch is decreased following treatment with terfenadine. In both conditions, however, wheal formation is not completely inhibited, suggesting the involvement of a mechanism unrelated to histamine. In nonurticarial disease in which
