A retrospective study on the efficacy of integrating traditional Chinese medicine with Western medicine in the treatment of adult measles.

OBJECTIVE: Measles is a highly contagious, potentially fatal disease, and using western medicine for treating this disease showed some limits including the long period of treatment and some side effects. Of note, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) exhibited advantages of treating measles in using alone or combing with western medication. However, little information on the clinical study on adjunctive efficacy of TCM on measles. Therefore, the objective of this study is to observe the adjunctive efficacy of TCM in the treatment of adult measles. METHODS: Ninety-one patients diagnosed with adul

A More Rapid Method for Culturing LUHMES-Derived Neurons Provides Greater Cell Numbers and Facilitates Studies of Multiple Viruses.

The ability to study mature neuronal cells ex vivo is complicated by their non-dividing nature and difficulty in obtaining large numbers of primary cells from organisms. Thus, numerous transformed progenitor models have been developed that can be routinely cultured, then scaled, and differentiated to mature neurons. In this paper, we present a new method for differentiating one such model, the Lund human mesencephalic (LUHMES) dopaminergic neurons. This method is two days faster than some established protocols, results in nearly five times greater numbers of mature neurons, and involves fewer

[Epidemiological and molecular traceability analysis of the first cluster outbreak of D8 genotype measles in Henan Province].

In February 2025, a local cluster outbreak caused by the D8 genotype Measles virus (MV) was first discovered in Henan Province. Epidemiological investigations and laboratory testing were conducted, including the collection of serum and throat swabs for MV IgM antibody and nucleic acid detection, virus isolation and genetic homology analysis. Measures such as close contact tracing, vaccination rate assessment and supplementary immunization activities were implemented, successfully preventing broader community transmission. A total of three cases were reported during the outbreak, including one

Challenging 21-day quarantine guidelines for mumps in Beijing: Data-driven recommendations for a high-coverage MMR vaccination era (2019-2024).

Mumps is a vaccine-preventable disease. Following Beijing's implementation of a three-dose MMR vaccination strategy, incidence rates declined significantly. However, the current 21-d quarantine period lacks evidence-based support, resulting in low compliance and conflicts between healthcare providers and patients. This study analyzed 2019-2024 surveillance data to characterize mumps in the vaccine era through viral shedding detection. Study participants were NNDRS-reported mumps cases with both registered and collective residences in Beijing's Chaoyang District, who signed informed consent for

Understanding measles infection and how to improve uptake of the MMR vaccine.

Measles is a highly infectious, notifiable, viral disease that is commonly contracted in childhood and associated with a characteristic rash. Most children and young people who contract measles make a full recovery, but measles infection is associated with rare but serious complications in vulnerable groups, such young infants, immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles infection, but uptake of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine in the UK has fallen short of the vaccine coverage required to provide herd immunity and prev

Uncovering the features of Measles-targeting human antibodies elicited by the MMR vaccine.

UNLABELLED: Measles virus (MeV), a highly transmissible paramyxovirus, causes disease that can lead to severe complications and death, particularly in babies and young children. Deployment of the durable, highly effective, live-attenuated measles vaccine has saved an estimated 94 million lives in the past 50 years, 1 yet the immunological explanation for this vaccine's unique success and its landscape of antibody recognition remains unclear. Here we report the first panel of human monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) specific for the MeV hemagglutinin (H) and fusion (F) surface proteins, derived from

Gene Expression Factors Associated with Rubella-Specific Humoral Immunity After a Third MMR Vaccine Dose.

Rubella is typically a mild viral illness, but it can lead to severe complications when contracted during pregnancy, such as pregnancy loss or developmental defects in the fetus (congenital rubella syndrome). Therefore, it is crucial to develop and maintain protective immunity in women of childbearing age. In this study, we assessed the transcriptional factors associated with rubella-specific immune outcomes (IgG binding antibody and avidity, neutralizing antibody, and memory B cell ELISpot response) following a third MMR vaccine dose in women of reproductive age to identify key factors/signat

Identifying key predictors amongst children of under 5 years of age with fever and rashes amidst measles outbreak in Jharkhand: A case control study.

BACKGROUND: There has been a recent rise of viral exanthem outbreaks in Jharkhand and other parts of India over the last 2-3 years. This may be due to low immunization coverage of measles vaccination or due to spread of other causes of fever and rash. This study aims to identify the key predictors of fever and rashes among children under five years old by analysing demographic, clinical, and environmental factors. METHODS: This study employed age-matched case-control design to investigate the association between fever with rash (cases) and the absence of such symptoms (controls), along with i

Measles resurgence in Texas: a public health wake-up call.

Measles, a highly contagious viral disease once nearing elimination in the USA, has resurged, with Texas reporting its most severe outbreak in nearly three decades. As of February 2025, over 48 confirmed cases, predominantly among unvaccinated children, highlight critical vulnerabilities in state immunization policy. Factors driving this resurgence include declining vaccination rates, widespread misinformation, legislative allowances for nonmedical exemptions, and public health disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Texas outbreak reflects a global trend, with measles cases increasing by
