Wound Infections Following Snake-Related Injuries in Malaysia: A Retrospective Analysis of Remote Envenomation Consultancy Services Data.

Snake-related injuries (SRI) in Malaysia are a medical emergency. SRI may be accompanied by wound infection requiring medical and surgical intervention. Despite its clinical relevance, local epidemiological and microbiological data remain limited in Malaysia. This was an observational analysis conducted on 72 hospitalised patients with wound infections following snake-related injuries who received consultation from the Remote Envenomation Consultancy Services (RECS). Data were collected using a standardised collection form. Among 559 hospitalised SRI cases, 72 patients (12.9%) developed wound

[Tungiasis: from travel-associated dermatosis to a neglected tropical disease].

Tungiasis is an ectoparasitic skin disease caused by the penetration of female sand fleas (Tunga penetrans) into the epidermis. It is endemic in Latin America, the Caribbean, and sub-Saharan Africa and occurs in Europe predominantly as a travel-associated dermatosis. Characteristic lesions are whitish-yellow papules or nodules with a central dark punctum, predominantly affecting the feet and often accompanied by erythema, pruritus, and pain. Severe infestations may lead to ulceration, nail dystrophy, and secondary bacterial infections. In low-income endemic communities, particularly among chil

Potato and warm moist compresses to accelerate healing of limb swelling and bruising after venous stent placement: A case report.

RATIONALE: Hemodialysis is an essential renal replacement therapy for patients with end-stage renal disease, and an autologous arteriovenous fistula (AVF) is preferred because of its durability and low complication rate. Maintaining AVF patency is critical for effective dialysis. AVF stenosis may reduce blood flow, impair dialysis adequacy, and compromise vascular access function. Digital subtraction angiography-guided angioplasty and venous stent placement are commonly used to restore patency. Postoperative swelling, bruising, pain, and restricted limb movement may occur and delay recovery. T

Case Report: Primary cutaneous infection caused by Microascus trigonosporus.

BACKGROUND: Microascus trigonosporus is an emerging opportunistic filamentous fungus, with most reported cases involving invasive pulmonary infections in solid organ transplant recipients. Worldwide, cutaneous infections caused by this organism are extremely rare. This case highlights an unusual presentation of primary cutaneous infection in a non-transplant host. METHODS: We report a case of a 67-year-old woman who presented with progressive skin erythema and pustules for two months, unresponsive to topical halometasone. Her medical history included glaucoma, hypertension, and coronary heart

A Box-Behnken-Optimized Phytosomal Strategy for Diosgenin: Enhancing Oral Delivery and Antipsoriatic Efficacy in a Preclinical Model.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by excessive keratinocyte proliferation and immune dysregulation, affecting patients' quality of life. Diosgenin (DG) is a natural steroidal sapogenin with potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. These effects could help treat psoriatic symptoms; however, poor solubility and limited dissolution limit its therapeutic potential. The current study aimed to develop diosgenin-loaded phytosomes (DG-PS) using the Box-Behnken design and to evaluate their physicochemical characteristics and antipsoriatic efficacy. The DG-PS

Charcot Neuro-osteoarthropathy: Critical Concepts and Practical Management Pearls for Dermatologists.

Charcot neuro-osteoarthropathy (CNO), formerly known as Charcot's arthropathy, is a progressive joint and bone disorder primarily affecting the bones of the feet. It usually occurs secondary to neuropathic damage from conditions like diabetes and leprosy. This chronic condition evolves through acute inflammatory and later chronic phases, characterized by joint destruction and instability. Pathophysiological mechanisms involve neurotraumatic and neurovascular theories, along with newer insights such as altered neuropeptide signaling, including calcitonin gene-related peptide, and dysregulation

Measurements of erythema effective ultraviolet irradiance in artificial tanning devices in Switzerland.

Artificial tanning devices expose users to ultraviolet radiation and are associated with an increased risk of skin cancer. To protect users, Swiss legislation, among other requirements based on the SN EN 60335-2-27, limits the total erythema effective irradiance of artificial tanning devices to [Formula: see text]. Additionally, only UV-Type 3 devices may be used in unsupervised settings. From 2022 to 2024, Swiss cantonal authorities conducted a nationwide measurement campaign to assess compliance with the limits. For this, a portable measurement system, based on a stray-light-suppressing arra

Fixed drug eruption to propofol: Case series and clinical implications.

BACKGROUND: Fixed drug eruption (FDE) is a type IV delayed hypersensitivity reaction characterized by recurrent lesions at the same site upon drug re-exposure. Propofol-induced FDE is extremely rare. CASE REPORT: We report four cases of FDE following propofol administration, presenting with erythematous or bullous lesions at fixed sites, sometimes with mucosal involvement. Standard skin tests and lymphocyte transformation tests were frequently negative, particularly when performed outside previously affected areas. Diagnosis was confirmed by controlled intravenous provocation in one adult cas

Omalizumab in Refractory Adult-Onset Facial Atopic Dermatitis: A Case Report.

PURPOSE: Adult-onset facial atopic dermatitis (AFAD) is a distinct subtype of atopic dermatitis that predominantly affects the face and is frequently misdiagnosed as rosacea or other facial dermatoses. The management of AFAD is challenging, particularly in patients who respond poorly to conventional therapies. At present, reports on the use of anti-immunoglobulin E (IgE) therapy in AFAD are limited. Herein, we report a case of AFAD with markedly elevated serum IgE levels that showed a favorable response to omalizumab. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinica

Topical Delgocitinib for Capecitabine-Induced Hand-Foot Syndrome: A Therapeutic Option?

INTRODUCTION: Hand-foot syndrome (HFS) is a frequent and potentially dose-limiting adverse event of capecitabine. Current therapeutic strategies are not always effective. Since inflammatory pathways, including JAK-STAT3 signaling, may contribute to capecitabine-induced HFS, topical JAK inhibition could represent a potential therapeutic approach. METHODS: We report two women with metastatic breast cancer receiving capecitabine monotherapy who developed Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) grade 3 HFS involving both palms and soles. Both patients had previously received clobet

High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound for the Treatment of Infraorbital Fat Protrusion: A Preliminary Case Series.

Infraorbital fat (IOF) protrusion is a common feature of periorbital aging and is commonly managed with lower blepharoplasty. Although surgical approaches can provide predictable aesthetic outcomes, there remains interest in minimally invasive treatment options for appropriately selected patients. This preliminary case series evaluated the feasibility, short-term tolerability, and clinical outcomes of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for the treatment of IOF protrusion. Three Korean patients (two female and one male; mean age, 48 years) underwent HIFU treatment using LinearZ device at

The hidden burden of topical corticosteroid misuse: a systematic review of dermatologic complications.

BACKGROUND: Topical corticosteroids are widely prescribed for their anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and antiproliferative effects in conditions such as atopic and contact dermatitis. However, their rapid symptomatic relief has contributed to misuse, particularly for cosmetic purposes, leading to multiple adverse effects. This study aimed to evaluate complications associated with topical corticosteroid misuse and the contributing factors. METHODS: Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search of PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science was conducted to identify studies published between Jan

Pembrolizumab-related hand and foot skin reaction.

Hand and foot skin reaction (HFSR), usually associated with tyrosine kinase inhibitors, is characterized by painful erythema and hyperkeratosis at palmoplantar pressure points. HFSR differs from the more widely recognized chemotherapy-induced hand-foot syndrome (HFS) in terms of both clinical and histopathological features. Here we present the case of a 79-year-old man with advanced lung adenocarcinoma who developed grade 3 HFSR after receiving pembrolizumab, a PD-1 inhibitor. The patient initially presented with erythema, desquamation, and hyperkeratotic plaques on the palms and soles, follow
