Eosinophilic annular erythema (EAE) is a rare skin disorder that presents abruptly with erythematous annular plaques. Typically, these plaques spread centrifugally with central clearing and recur in a relapsing-remitting pattern. Histologic findings consist of dermal perivascular to dense eosinophilic infiltrates, with preservation of the epidermis and subcutis. In this report, we describe a unique case in an 85-year-old woman characterized by a chronic course of EAE that was initially localized, along with the development of multiple keratoacanthomas (KAs) arising within the affected skin. Erythema marginatum is a rare but diagnostically valuable cutaneous manifestation of acute rheumatic fever (ARF), particularly in young individuals with a history of streptococcal infection. Its presentation is often transient and underrecognized in adult populations, especially when mimicking other annular dermatoses such as subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE). A young woman in her early twenties with a history of ARF and residual rheumatic valvular involvement presented with recurrent, asymptomatic annular erythematous plaques. Initial diagnostic considerations included dermatophyt

Eosinophilic annular erythema (EAE) is a rare, benign dermatosis characterized by recurrent erythematous-urticarial plaques and tissue eosinophilia. Its cause is unknown, though it may involve hypersensitivity to an unidentified antigen. EAE typically follows a chronic, relapsing course, affecting the trunk and extremities. Treatment guidelines are lacking, and therapy responses vary. This study presents four new cases and reviews current treatment options. Four patients with EAE, aged 20 to 72, were treated at Galliera Hospital (Genova, Italy). They exhibited erythematous, annular lesions on

Erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC) is a type of figurate erythema with an unclear etiology, often thought to be a delayed hypersensitivity reaction to various antigens. While many cases resolve spontaneously, chronic and refractory presentations can be challenging to manage. We report a case of EAC unresponsive to traditional treatments but demonstrating rapid improvement with upadacitinib, a selective Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor. This case highlights a novel use for JAK inhibitors in treating EAC.

INTRODUCTION: Annular lichenoid dermatitis of youth (ALDY) is a rare and underreported dermatologic condition. It primarily affects children and adolescents. Clinically, ALDY presents as erythematous annular macules or plaques with raised borders and hypopigmented centers, predominantly affecting the trunk and flexural areas. The etiology remains unknown, and the condition poses a diagnostic challenge due to its resemblance to other annular dermatoses.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 5-year-old female presented with asymptomatic annular erythematous lesions on the trunk, abdomen, lumbar region, and flan

BACKGROUND: In humans, figurate erythema (FE) represents a heterogenous group of dermatoses with circular or serpiginous erythematous skin lesions; FE has not been reported in cats.
OBJECTIVES: To report clinical and histological characteristics and outcomes of FE in sphynx cats from Baltic sea-bordering countries.
ANIMALS: Eleven client-owned sphynx cats with FE.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We recruited cases meeting the following criteria: (i) a sphynx breed, (ii) FE with or without scaling, (iii) a chronic, waxing-and-waning course lasting longer than a month and (iv) an absence of other skin

Neutrophilic figurate erythema (NFE) is a rarely reported figurate erythema that clinically presents similarly to erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC) with neutrophil-predominant perivascular and interstitial infiltrate in the dermis on histopathology. We present the case of a 32-year-old active-duty military male who presented with a chronic treatment-resistant skin rash. The rash began on his thighs five years previously and was treated with topical and oral antifungals repeatedly without improvement. The patient was deployed overseas during the rash onset, but the rash persisted upon his ret

Neutrophilic dermatoses (NDs) constitute a group of diseases characterized by sterile neutrophilic infiltrations. Many NDs usually present with infiltrated erythematous plaques, nodules, urticarial plaques, or pustules. Lesions may show variability, and atypical presentations may develop among NDs. Annular lesions have been reported in many NDs and may lead to diagnostic problems. Clinical features and histopathologic findings such as localization of the neutrophilic infiltrate, existence of other cell types, and absence of true vasculitis may be helpful to distinguish NDs. Some of these NDs a

Dear Editor, Ticks carry many diseases, bacteria, and viruses and represent a very important healthcare issue both in Croatia and globally. Although most ticks are not infected with pathogens dangerous to humans, some ticks can transmit infectious diseases with significant morbidity and mortality. This is caused by the increasing incidence of many tick-borne diseases over a growing geographical area. Many factors influence which species of ticks are present in a given geographical area, as well as the density of their population and the risk of human exposure to infected ticks. The average mor

Eosinophilic annular erythema (EAE) is a rare condition with a chronic relapsing and remitting course, characterized by the presence of annular or polycyclic erythematous and plaque lesions and prominent tissue eosinophilia on histopathology. There is an ongoing discussion on whether EAE is a subset of Wells syndrome (eosinophilic cellulitis) or a separate entity. To date, few cases of EAE have been reported in the literature; of these, about 40 cases were in adults and fewer than ten cases were in children. Given the rarity of this condition, there are no clear recommendations for its managem

Dear Editor,Eosinophilic annular erythema (EAE) is a rare figurate dermatitis of unknown etiology with prominent tissue eosinophilia. A 59-year-old male patient presented with a one-month history of itchy, polycyclic, annular, and partially serpiginous lesions involving the back, the gluteal region, and the extremities (Figure 1, a, b). There was no medical history of drug intake. High potency local steroids and antihistamines were prescribed, but without adequate therapeutic results. Extensive laboratory work-up including serological infectious disease testing was performed and was within nor

Eosinophilic annular erythema (EAE) is a rare entity of unknown etiology that is possibly related to a hypersensitivity reaction and presents as annular erythematous plaques with tissue eosinophilia. It is classified as a figurate erythema with a controversial relationship to Wells syndrome (WS) in the literature, where it is generally considered a separate entity or subset based on clinical and histopathologic differences. EAE typically presents with recurrent, erythematous, arcuate, and annular plaques on the trunk and proximal extremities. The course of the disease is often chronic, recurre

Classification of the wide variety of autoimmune diseases that can occur before or after the onset of Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is currently debated within the conventional SS criteria or as primary SS (pSS) developing autoimmune disease or as 'associated-overlap' with other systemic autoimmune diseases. There is also debate on whether or not to consider annular polycyclic subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) and annular erythema associated with Sjögren's syndrome (AESS) as a spectrum linked to Ro-SSA and/or La-SSB auto-antibodies (SSA/SSB auto-ab). We present the case of a 55-year-old

We report here a new case of neutrophilic figurate erythema of infancy in a 1-year and 9-month-old white boy. Neutrophilic figurate erythema of infancy is a rare inflammatory dermatosis which is part of the figurate inflammatory dermatoses of infancy and is considered a variant of annular erythema of infancy. The disease is clinically characterized by annular erythematous lesions, sometimes with a polycyclic configuration, and histologically by a dermal neutrophilic infiltration with leukocytoclasia. Differential diagnosis mainly includes clear-cut severe diseases with a well-known etiology, s

"Lupus erythematosus gyratus repens" is viewed clinically and histologically as an annular variant of a subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus and was described for the first time in French by the authors Laugier, Lénys and Bulte in 1959 as chronic-recurrent figurate erythema. The current name of the disease goes back to Hewitt et al. (1975) and Laugier (1977). There are only a few cases known thus far in the literature. We report a 74-year-old patient, in whom the clinical and histological patterns corresponded to the presence of lupus erythematosus gyratus repens. Systemic and topical therap

An unusual annular erythema occurred in a 6-month-old girl. Recurrent annular lesions appeared on the face and back, but annular lesions persisted for ten months on the distal extremities. Eleven months after the eruption appeared, it resolved completely without recurrence. This seemingly unique condition is compared with other cases of chronic annular erythemas, especially those previously described as erythema gyratum perstans.

A 3 1/2-year-old girl had a three-year history of chronic annular erythema that more closely mimicked erythema gyratum repens of adults than other annular erythemas of infancy. Histopathologic study revealed bowenoid characteristics in the epidermis. No fungi were ever demonstrated in this patient's skin lesions, but they consistently responded to treatment with ketoconazole and flared immediately after cessation of treatment with that drug.
