BACKGROUND: Originally developed to protect against sunburn, sunscreen has been assumed to prevent skin cancer. However, conflicting reports include claims that sunscreen increases risk for melanoma.
OBJECTIVE: To examine the strength and consistency of associations between melanoma and sunscreen use in the published literature.
DATA SOURCES: A comprehensive MEDLINE search of articles published from 1966 to 2003 that reported information on sunscreen use and melanoma in humans.
STUDY SELECTION: Analytic studies reporting data on sunscreen use before diagnosis of melanoma.

This study was conducted to assess protective effect of an antioxidant protein, sericin, on UVB-induced acute damage and tumor promotion in mouse skin. Since April 28th, a new topical retinoid is available in Belgium: tazarotene (Zorac) gel (Pierre Fabre). It exists at two concentrations: 0.05% or 0.1%. It is the first receptor-selective topical retinoid. It is indicated in the treatment of plaque-type psoriasis. In the USA, tazarotene is also licensed for use in the treatment of acne and several studies show its efficacy for the treatment of other skin diseases like photodamage and ichthyoses.

Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) is an uncommon undifferentiated neuroendocrine tumor, arising in skin mainly on sun-exposed areas. BACKGROUND: There are numerous histopathologic features related to prognosis in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC). We hypothesize that there is no uniform approach toward the reporting of these features. This may be related to differing opinions on their prognostic use.
