AIMS: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in situ (SCCis) can be classified histopathologically into four subtypes: full-thickness (FT), hypertrophic actinic keratosis (HAK), Bowenoid, and acantholytic types. 3%-5% of SCCis lesions progress to invasive squamous cell carcinoma (iSCC), however progression risk by subtype has not been assessed. INTRODUCTION: Actinic keratoses (AKs) are humans' most common keratinocyte- derived precancerous lesions. They can be observed predominantly in fair-skinned individuals on sun-exposed surfaces. Another name for AKs is solar keratosis. The primary risk factor for AKs is cumulative UV exposure from sunlight and/or tanning salons. AKs may present on a patient as a few detectable lesions.
