BACKGROUND: Radiodermatitis is one of the most common radiotherapy-related side effects, which can influence patients' quality of life and affect therapeutic efficacy. Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) appears as a low-cost technology, with significant results in the tissue repair process.
METHODS: It is a triple blind randomized controlled trial. A total of 96 patients undergoing radiotherapy for breast cancer are estimated for the sample, which will be randomly assigned to a control group to receive a placebo and the institution's standard protocol (n = 48) or to an intervention group to re

PURPOSE: The objective of this research was to synthesize the evidence about the usage of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) in women with breast cancer undergoing hypo-fractionated whole-breast irradiation (HFWBI) for the treatment of acute radiodermatitis.
METHODS: The study included 50 patients (35-55 years) with unilateral breast cancer post-lumpectomy who received HFWBI. They were randomized into Group A (PEMF plus standard skin care) and Group B (standard skin care only). Skin reactions were assessed during PEMF therapy using sonographic skin thickness measurements and RTOG criterion.

INTRODUCTION: Acute radiodermatitis (ARD) is a frequent and debilitating inflammatory toxicity in patients undergoing head and neck radiotherapy (RT). In severe cases, ARD may progress to moist desquamation, with the potential for ulceration. Colonization or infection with Staphylococcus aureus is a critical independent risk factor for worsening ARD. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has emerged as a promising adjunctive therapeutic approach, with potential to reduce microbial burden, modulate inflammation, and accelerate tissue repair. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effects

Background/Objectives: Acute radiotherapy-induced skin toxicity is a common complication in breast cancer treatment, with marked interindividual variability not fully explained by clinical factors. This study investigated the contribution of germline mutations in DNA repair and tumor suppressor genes to acute radiodermatitis in a homogeneous cohort treated with hypofractionated intensity-modulated radiotherapy with inverse planning, with adjustment for potential lifestyle confounders. Methods: Mutations were grouped into four functional categories: homologous recombination repair (HRR), Fancon

BACKGROUND: Real-world safety data from Southeastern Europe are limited for ultrahypofractionated (UHF) whole-breast irradiation (WBI). We aimed to evaluate acute skin toxicity with UHF versus hypofractionated (HF) postoperative radiation therapy in early breast cancer, following implementation of this fractionation regimen.
METHODS: This combined prospective-retrospective study included women aged ≥50 years following breast-conserving surgery (pT1-2, pN0-1, M0). The UHF cohort (prospective) received 26 Gy in 5 fractions over one week between 2023 and 2024. The control group consisted of retr

Breast cancer, the most common cancer worldwide, is treated with surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Radiotherapy reduces recurrence and mortality but causes radiodermatitis in over 90% of patients. Current preventive and topical treatments have limited efficacy. Photobiomodulation therapy shows promise for preventing and treating radiodermatitis, but the evidence is limited and controversial. This article aims to systematically review the efficacy of LED therapy in preventing and treating radiodermatitis in women with breast cancer undergoing radiotherapy. This systematic review adheres

INTRODUCTION: Breast adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare triple-negative breast cancer subtype with a favourable prognosis. While hypofractionated and ultra-hypofractionated radiotherapy are increasingly used for breast cancer, no dedicated data exist for breast adenoid cystic carcinoma. This study reports contemporary oncological outcomes, radiotherapy parameters, and toxicity in a uniformly treated single-institution cohort.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed files of all patients with non-metastatic breast adenoid cystic carcinoma treated with surgery and adjuvant radiation b

PURPOSE: Over the past three decades, the fractionation of radiotherapy for breast cancer has evolved, with a trend towards hypofractionated regimens. The Fast-Forward trial evaluated a radiotherapy protocol in five daily fractions, offering a potentially effective and more convenient alternative to conventional regimens. The primary objective of our study was to evaluate acute skin reactions in patients receiving hypofractionated adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer according to the Fast-Forward protocol, along with their time to onset.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective single-cen

PURPOSE: Acute radiodermatitis is a significant complication of radiation therapy (RT) treatment without effective therapy. This study aimed to establish a canine radiodermatitis model and explore a therapeutic intervention to treat radiodermatitis.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: We developed a canine radiodermatitis model using hypofractionated RT regimens and evaluated the therapeutic potential of topical Tat-PYC-Smad7, a Smad7-based biologic targeting transforming growth factor β and nuclear factor κB signaling pathways. Skin biopsies were collected before RT, after radiodermatitis onset, and post

OBJECTIVE: Radiodermatitis is the most prevalent complication in breast cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy. Emerging evidence suggests a correlation between radiodermatitis and Staphylococcus aureus colonization. The aim of our study was to explore whether the application of skin bacteriostatic agents (a sterile liquid dressing containing fucoidan oligosaccharides with anti-Staphylococcus aureus activity) could mitigate acute radiodermatitis in breast cancer patients.
METHODS: We conducted a prospective interventional study, enrolling breast cancer patients receiving outpatient radiother

PURPOSE: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder associated with an increased risk of cancer, including a 5-fold higher incidence of breast cancer. Preclinical data suggest heightened radiosensitivity in NF1, raising concerns about toxicity and secondary malignancies after radiation therapy. Clinical data, however, are lacking. This study aimed to evaluate long-term outcomes and treatment-related toxicities in NF1 patients receiving adjuvant radiation therapy for breast cancer.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: This retrospective single-center study included 27 NF1 patients

Fluoroscopy-induced radiodermatitis, whether acute or chronic, is a complication of fluoroscopy-guided cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures. Repeated cardiac catheterization and coronary angioplasty procedures, prolonged exposure time and, radiation doses greater than 10-12 Gy are the culprits in the development of skin inflammation. Acute radiodermatitis usually develops within two weeks after the procedure and is easily recognized clinically, whereas the chronic form can have a long latent period of almost ten years. Clinical symptoms of chronic disease caused by excessive irradi

Acute radiodermatitis is a type of skin injury caused by tumor radiotherapy. Compound Dahuang Baiji spray (CDBS) is a traditional Chinese medicine spray made from Dahuang and Baiji decoction. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects and mechanisms of CDBS on radiation dermatitis. We analyzed the main components of CDBS using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Through network pharmacology prediction, the target of Dahuang and Baiji was identified as arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX5), associated with inflammation. Therefore, we constructed radiodermatitis rat model

INTRODUCTION/OBJECTIVES: The addition of a boost to the lumpectomy bed after whole-breast (WB) radiotherapy plays a key role in the treatment of patients with breast cancer (BC). The clinical benefits of a boost with high-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDR-BT) after conventional fractionation is supported by a large body of evidence. However, few studies have described its outcomes after a hypofractionated scheme.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We included all patients treated with adjuvant WB-IMRT in 15 sessions followed by a single-session HDR-BT boost with local anesthesia on an outpatient basis.

UNLABELLED: Approximately 80% of patients submitted to radiotherapy develop radiodermatitis. Photobiomodulation based on light-emitted diode (LED) is one of the therapeutic strategies for treating inflammation. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the photobiomodulation with two wavelengths, in an acute radiodermatitis animal model.
METHODS: Twenty rats were submitted to one radiotherapy session. After 15 days, the rats that developed radiodermatitis were divided into control groups, LED-630 nm, LED-850 nm, and LED-630 + 850 nm. The treatment regimen was one session lasting 10 minute

This study aimed to assess the severity of acute radiodermatitis (ARD) by ultrasound quantitative parameters and to try to identify the influencing factors of skin toxicity. A total of 55 patients who underwent radiotherapy after unilateral breast-conserving surgery (BCS) were included in the study. The irradiated side of the breast was used as the research object and the quantitative ultrasound parameters (skin thickness, shear wave elasticity) were evaluated before radiotherapy, every week during radiotherapy. Two weeks after radiotherapy, the patients were divided into two groups, according
