Large scale experience of two ultrahypofractionated 5 fractions regimes after breast conserving surgery from a single centre.

PURPOSE: Ultra-hypofractionation breast radiotherapy is a safe alternative to moderate hypofractionation. This study reports the results of two ultrahypofractionated regimens used in clinical practice in a high-volume radiotherapy center in terms of efficacy and of tolerance. METHODS: we included all patients treated in an adjuvant setting with five fractions after breast conserving surgery (BCS), for a histologically-confirmed invasive or in situ breast carcinoma. Radiotherapy regimens after BCS were either a 5-week schedule with 5 weekly fractions of 5,7 Gy or a one-week schedule with 5 dai

Head and neck cancer patients under radiotherapy undergoing skin application of hydrogel dressing or hyaluronic acid: results from a prospective, randomized study.

PURPOSE: Acute radiodermatitis (ARD) is a frequent side effect of radiotherapy, a therapeutic option for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). It is responsible for pain, quality of life (QoL) impairment, and increased risk of treatment discontinuation, which may compromise the prognosis for patients. Local therapies to prevent or alleviate ARD have been proposed without providing any high level of evidence to establish recommendations. METHODS: We implemented a prospective multicenter randomized study on patients with HNSCC treated with definitive radiotherapy to assess the impact o

Induction of Radiodermatitis in Nude Mouse Model Using Gamma Irradiator IBL 637.

INTRODUCTION: Acute radiodermatitis is a common, though severe, side effect of radiotherapy against cancer that may lead to an interruption or even abortion of the radiotherapy. Mouse models provide an excellent tool to study pathomechanisms of a radiation-induced dermatitis as well as to test and develop novel innovative treatment strategies. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to provide an overview of different mouse models and irradiation devices that have been used so far and to describe the process of the induction of a radiation dermatitis in an immune proficient nude mouse model (SKH

Individual Radiosensitivity as a Risk Factor for the Radiation-Induced Acute Radiodermatitis.

BACKGROUND: Up to 95% of irradiated patients suffer from ionizing radiation (IR) induced early skin reaction, acute radiation dermatitis (ARD). Some experts think that additional skin hydration can reduce acute skin reactions. Individual radiosensitivity (IRS) determined from lymphocytes may help to predict acute radiation toxicity. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical manifestation of ARD in different skincare groups during whole breast radiotherapy depending on IRS and other risk factors. METHODS: A total of 108 early-stage breast cancer patients were randomized into best s
