The purpose of this study was to evaluate the adverse events (AEs) associated with tucatinib by mining data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) and explore potential drug-related AEs, thereby guiding safe clinical use. We extracted AE reports involving tucatinib from the FAERS database spanning from the 1st quarter of 2020 to the 4th quarter of 2024. The reports were categorized based on preferred terms and system organ classes, and risk signals were subsequently grouped for further analysis. Among 12,225 AEs listing tucatinib as the primary suspec

BACKGROUND: Ingrown toenails are a disease that often begins in childhood. It occurs as the penetration of the nail plate into the surrounding tissue as a result of various factors. Patients often report to various specialists, including podiatrists and dermatologists, at an advanced stage of this disease.
AIMS: The aim of the study is to present the effectiveness of conservative treatment methods in children with ingrown toenails.
METHODS: In this study, we presented the case of a 12-year-old boy with ingrown toenails and visible inflammation around the toenails of both feet. Taking into ac

Pincer nail is a deformity characterized by excessive transverse curvature of nail, progressively increasing along its longitudinal axis. The curvature is greatest at the distal end, leading to an ingrown nail, producing pain, discomfort, and significant cosmetic alteration. It is a severe variant of ingrown nail, often attributed to causes such as anatomical variation of nail plate axis, tight footwear, gait abnormalities, and so on. Correspondingly, its management involves the removal of the lateral ingrowing nail plate or the lateral hypertrophic nail folds. We report a young male who prese

For decades, there has been debate about the cause of ingrown nail: is the nail plate or the periungual tissue at fault? There is no consensus and management relies on case-by-case analysis followed by tailored treatment. Conservative treatment should be attempted in children when the cause is transient (e.g., poor clipping) or the patient refuses surgery. Surgical treatments rely on two main approaches: either narrowing the nail plate, or debulking the soft tissue. It is up to the surgeon to select the most appropriate approach in each case. All procedures discussed in this chapter have high

BACKGROUND: Ingrowing Nail is an ailment in the toe area. This problem is observed in 20% of the population, in all age groups, but most often occurs in teenagers and young adults. The process of ingrowing nail stimulates natural defense mechanisms of the body in the form of inflammation and severe pain.
AIMS: The aim of this paper was to make the VHO-Osthold® Perfect buckle effective as an alternative to nail plate surgery and to determine the patient's comfort during this method of treatment.
PATIENTS/METHODS: A descriptive case study conducted in a 15-year-old patient who had ingrowing na

INTRODUCTION: In-growing toenails commonly affect young men hampering the quality of life. There are many methods to treat in-growing toe nail but most of them have high recurrence rates and poor patient satisfaction. We describe our results of segmental matrix excision for correction of ingrowing toe nails.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: It is a retrospective study over a period of 2 years. Patients with symptomatic in-growing toe nails with stage II and III were operated by technique of segmental matrix excision. All patients were available for follow-up at ∼1 year.
RESULTS: 90 patients, 59 males a

Dermatologic conditions may be the subjects of potential emergency consultations, and the knowledge of their sonographic appearance can facilitate an early diagnosis and management. In this pictorial essay, the sonographic dermatologic anatomy, technique, and conditions that can be supported by a prompt sonographic diagnosis are reviewed. The sonographic signs that may help diagnose these entities are discussed with a practical approach.

OBJECTIVES: To assess the main characteristics of retronychia on ultrasonography (US) and to propose US criteria for diagnosing unilateral and bilateral cases according to the digit.
METHODS: We conducted a case-control study with retrospective, descriptive, and statistical analyses of the US images of 210 nails: 43 with retronychia and 167 normal nails. The Student t test, Fisher exact test, and Kruskal-Wallis test, among other tests, were performed. P < .05 was considered significant.
RESULTS: Seventy percent of the patients were females, and the most affected digit was the big toe. Signif

Retronychia is a recently described disorder caused by ingrowth of the proximal nail plate into the proximal nail fold. This situation provokes chronic paronychia refractory to antimicrobial therapy. Ultrasound has been proposed as the noninvasive method of choice to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other differential diagnoses, particularly local tumors and arthritic disease. The presence of 2 or more overlapping nail plates and a reduced distance between the root of the nail plate and the base of the distal phalanx could be the ultrasound hallmarks of this condition. Nail plate avulsion is

Retronychia is a form of post-traumatic ingrowing nail disease that involves proximal nail plate embedding into the proximal nail fold, with multiple generations of nail plate beneath the proximal nail. This disease is probably underdiagnosed because of incomplete clinical forms. The aim of this study was to report clinical and aetiological variants of retronychia and to evaluate their therapeutic outcome. A retrospective review was performed on 18 patients who were seen in our institution between 2007 and 2013. The diagnostic criteria for retronychia were paronychia and interruption of nail g

UNLABELLED: Ingrowing nail also known as onychocryptosis is a common health problem. This disease mostly affects young people, often carrying a considerable amount of socio-economic implications. It's foot problem that usually manifests as inflammation of tissue along the side of a toenail. The aim of the study was to asses and to compare effectiveness of electrocautery and phenol application in partial matrixectomy after partial nail extraction in the treatment of ingrown toenails.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The group of 60 patients with ingrowing toenail which was randomized into two groups unde

BACKGROUND: Ingrown nails are a very common problem. There are different stages of disease and diverse therapeutic options. Phenol and sodium hydroxide are commonly used agents for chemical matricectomy but both frequently entail excessive healing times.
OBJECTIVE: This prospective study aimed mainly to evaluate the efficacy of partial nail avulsion and selective chemical cauterization of the matrix using 80% TCA in the treatment of the ingrowing nail.
METHODS: One-hundred-and-thirty-three patients with 197 ingrown toenails were included in this study. Preoperatively, we tried to find predis

Retronychia (RN) refers to the incarnation of the nail plate in the proximal nail fold. We report four clinical cases of this little-known pathology, where there may be a long delay in diagnosis. RN exhibits a triad of clinical features, which are chronic paronychia, liquid discharge from under the nail fold and disruption of the linear nail growth. Chronic paronychia is often confused with bacterial or fungal infection. Empirical antibiotic treatment is not useful. Nail plate avulsion is the diagnostic and curative procedure of choice. Subsequent nail growth is normal without dystrophia and n

BACKGROUND: Ingrowing toenails can be treated with conservative therapy or surgery, but frequent relapse can be a problem in conservative therapy and surgical therapy without matricectomy. Thus, permanent nail ablation by partial matricectomy is now accepted as the treatment of choice.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) matricectomy in the treatment of ingrowing nail.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty ingrowing toenail edges in 25 patients were enrolled. TCA matricectomy with 100% trichloroacetic acid after partial nail avulsion was performed. For a few w

Ingrowing toenails (IGTN) cause significant discomfort for children and adults alike. Where conservative treatment fails, a surgical approach is usually adopted. Many surgical procedures have been described with varying complexity and outcome. We report a novel, simple technique which involves wedge excision of the ingrowing nail, and bipolar diathermy of the nail bed. Three-hundred and fifty-three procedures were carried out on 302 patients during the study period. Our re-operation rate for recurrence is 9.9%, which compares favourably with other techniques, and which lends itself to utilisat
