Telogen Effluvium and Anesthesia Considerations: A Case Report.

Telogen effluvium is a form of non-scarring hair loss characterized by premature shedding of hair. Pathophysiologically, telogen effluvium occurs when a significant number of hair follicles prematurely enter the telogen phase, resulting in excessive shedding. The exact mechanism is unclear, but it is believed to involve alterations in the hair follicle's growth cycle, possibly mediated by illness, infection, major surgery, low protein intake, or hormonal changes. Some medications can also be linked to this disease, such as beta blockers, carbamazepine, and vitamin A. When affected hairs are in

The Use of Light-Based Therapies in the Treatment of Alopecia.

BACKGROUND: Alopecia encompasses a group of conditions that can significantly impact quality of life, especially among women and younger individuals. While pharmaceutical therapies remain the cornerstone of treatment, laser and light-based therapies, especially low-level light therapy (LLLT), offer promising noninvasive alternatives. LLLT uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate hair follicle repair, prolong the hair growth phase, and promote regrowth. Recent advancements in at-home devices and dual-wavelength LED systems have expanded access to these therapies. This review explores the

Asynchronous Teledermatology for Non-Scarring Alopecia: A Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Non-scarring alopecia, including androgenetic alopecia (AGA), alopecia areata (AA), telogen effluvium (TE), and traction alopecia (TA), significantly impacts psychosocial well-being. Access to specialized dermatologic care for these conditions is often limited, particularly in underserved populations. Asynchronous teledermatology has emerged as a potential solution to extend care to these groups. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnostic utility and treatment patterns of asynchronous teledermatology for non-scarring alopecia and examine its role in improving care access across diverse

Alopecia as an Emerging Adverse Effect Associated With Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) Receptor Agonists for Weight Loss: A Scoping Review.

Alopecia has recently been reported as a potential emerging adverse effect associated with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), which are widely prescribed for weight loss. While gastrointestinal symptoms remain the most frequently documented adverse effects, an increasing number of reports describe hair loss events in patients treated with semaglutide, liraglutide, tirzepatide, and dulaglutide. This scoping review aimed to synthesize the available evidence regarding this potential association. A systematic literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar,

The Role of the Glass Ceiling Syndrome in Female Healthcare Workers and Its Association With Telogen Effluvium.

BACKGROUND-OBJECTIVE: Telogen effluvium (TE) type hair loss is the most common cause of diffuse and non-scarring alopecia in women and may develop on the basis of many etiological causes. Glass ceiling syndrome, which is a popular research topic especially in recent years, is one of the syndromes that define the invisible barriers that women face in their careers and can cause long-term stress during periods of exposure. Women working in the health sector are frequently exposed to the glass ceiling, and this situation has negative effects on skin health. The aim of the study is to investigate

Oral Minoxidil for Alopecia Treatment: Risks, Benefits, and Recommendations.

Low-dose oral minoxidil has gained recognition as an off-label treatment for hair loss disorders, including androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, and alopecia areata. Originally developed to treat hypertension, its hair growth-promoting effects are attributed to multiple mechanisms: primarily through direct KATP channel activation in dermal papilla cells, with additional effects from Wnt/β-catenin signaling, enhanced cysteine incorporation, and modulation of inflammatory and androgenic pathways. Clinical studies demonstrate comparable efficacy to topical minoxidil, with the added advantage

Nitrogen-Boosted H2O2 Production of Arginine-Polyphenol Nanozyme Drives Oxidative Eustress for Hair Regeneration.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-triggered oxidative eustress can stimulate regenerative signaling, yet its therapeutic window remains narrow. Mitochondrial respiratory complexes and superoxide dismutase (SOD) are canonical enzymatic sources of intracellular H2O2. Here we report a biomimetic polyphenol-amino acid nanozyme (PEAs) that couples the semiquinone radical of coenzyme Q (ubiquinone) with the Arg143 residue of Zn/Cu-SOD1. Through self-assembling epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and L-arginine (L-Arg), PEAs enable O2 adsorption and activation with controlled H2O2 generation. The H2O2 output

Minoxidil Promotes Hair Growth in a Mouse Model of Telogen Effluvium Induced by Lipopolysaccharide.

Telogen effluvium (TE) refers to a transient hair loss condition due to the global and premature transition of scalp hair follicles from the anagen to the telogen phase of the hair cycle leading to excessive hair loss, which is triggered by a variety of physical/emotional stress, including severe infectious diseases. Because of its self-healing nature, attempts to develop remedies for TE have rarely been conducted; still the demand for TE treatment exists as the condition can significantly impair the quality of life of affected individuals. This study aims to establish a mouse model of TE indu

Ex vivo detection of SARS CoV 2 spike protein in human hair follicles and potential link to telogen effluvium.

Telogen effluvium (TE), a form of hair loss, has emerged in a subset of COVID-19 patients, typically occurring several weeks after infection. TE is characterized by premature entry of hair follicles (HFs) into the telogen phase of the hair cycle. We analyzed the expression of the viral entry factors ACE2 and TMPRSS2 in human scalp specimens. In cryosections of skin biopsies and plucked HFs, both proteins localized to the basal layer of the outer root sheath (ORS), with TMPRSS2 also present in Henle's layer of the inner root sheath (IRS). Ex vivo infection of plucked HFs with SARS-CoV-2 reveale
