Predictors and Characteristics of Hair Loss Among Users of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists: A Cross-Sectional Analysis.

BACKGROUND: The increasing use of GLP-1 receptor agonists for weight loss and metabolic improvements has led to the recognition of various side effects. One potential, yet underexplored, adverse effect is hair loss. This study aims to investigate the frequency, characteristics, and predictors of hair loss in patients using GLP-1RAs. METHODS: This cross-sectional study, conducted uniquely in Saudi Arabia from January to June 2025, involved 254 participants who had used GLP-1RAs (Mounjaro, Ozempic, Saxenda, or Victoza) for weight loss purposes. Data were collected through structured questionnai

The Impact of GLP-1 Receptor Agonists on Hair: Beneficial Effects or Adverse Outcomes?

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have transformed the treatment of type II diabetes and obesity. Since their introduction, studies continue to reveal their beneficial effects in a range of other conditions. However, hair loss associated with GLP-1RAs is still a controversial topic. This narrative review explores the current evidence linking GLP-1RAs to hair-related conditions because, while some studies have reported hair regrowth in patients with androgenetic alopecia and a decrease in inflammatory infiltrate in patients with cicatricial alopecia, many more have suggested

Stress-induced hair loss among students in a public Saudi University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

BACKGROUND: Hair loss is a general condition that can occur in many cases. NORMAL HAIR HAS THREE STAGES: growth, resting, and shedding. These stages can be interrupted by many factors, such as stress. Stress is a CNS phenomenon that responds to physiological and psychological conditions. The prevalence of hair fall among the general population is highly shown in different ages, genders, and races. It focuses on a specific portion of the population, university students, who face stress during their studying periods for several reasons. Our study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of stress-induc

Efficacy of polyphenolic compounds for hair regeneration: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Non-scarring alopecia, including androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, and telogen effluvium, is highly prevalent and often associated with significant psychosocial burden. Although treatments such as minoxidil and finasteride are available, variability in response and tolerability concerns have increased interest in alternative therapeutic approaches. Polyphenolic compounds have attracted attention due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. OBJECTIVES: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy of oral and topical polyphen

675-nm diode laser as an adjuvant treatment for telogen effluvium: case series.

BACKGROUND: Telogen effluvium (TE) is a diffuse, non-scarring alopecia that can have a significant impact on quality of life. Although often self-limited, many patients seek therapies that speed recovery. Photobiomodulatory benefits of the 675-nm diode laser are also well established in treating other hair disorders, but there is limited evidence in TE. METHODS: We performed a retrospective case series of 13 patients diagnosed with TE at a Dermatologic Laser Center in Mexico. The patients received adjuvant treatment with 675-nm diode laser therapy. RESULTS: Of the 13 patients, 69% had chroni

Alopecia across the spectrum of rheumatic disease.

Hair loss is a common clinical concern with significant diagnostic and psychosocial implications, particularly in patients with rheumatologic disease. This review examines the association between rheumatologic conditions and alopecia, exploring underlying mechanisms, clinical presentations, and diagnostic considerations. Rheumatologic diseases may precipitate hair loss through a variety of immune, fibrotic, and vascular mechanisms. In addition, pharmacologic therapies commonly used to treat rheumatologic diseases, as well as coexisting autoimmune scalp disorders, can also contribute to alopeci

The Role of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists in Hair Loss: Clinical Evidence and Proposed Mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) are an increasingly prescribed class of antidiabetic medications with expanded use in chronic weight management. Emerging literature has raised concerns regarding dermatologic adverse effects of GLP-1RAs, including various forms of alopecia. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of GLP-1RA-associated alopecia, differences among agents, and proposed underlying mechanisms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A scoping review of GLP-1RAs and alopecia was conducted using PubMed, including articles published up to April 2026. RESULTS: Current l

JAAD CME Part 2: Clinical Evidence and Safety Considerations for GLP-1 Receptor Agonists in Dermatology.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) have revolutionized the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity by improving glycemic control, reducing body weight, and lowering cardiometabolic risk. Beyond their metabolic effects, GLP-1RAs may exert anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects, spurring investigation into dermatologic applications. Early clinical evidence, largely case reports, small cohorts, and short-duration trials, suggest GLP-1RAs may improve outcomes in chronic inflammatory skin disease, particularly psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), and may

Vitamins and hair: Sham or science?

There has been growing interest in supplements and hair care products beyond standard medical treatments to improve hair health. Vitamins are essential micronutrients required to maintain homeostasis in the body and are essential for hair growth. There is robust literature documenting vitamin deficiencies in patients with hair disorders such as alopecia areata and telogen effluvium; however, there is limited scientific backing to understand whether vitamin supplementation in healthy individuals has a tangible impact on hair health. We have reviewed the evidence given that clinical trials are l
