Anterior cervical hypertrichosis: a sporadic case.

Anterior cervical hypertrichosis is a very rare form of primary localized hypertrichosis. It consists of a tuft of terminal hair on the anterior neck just above the laryngeal prominence. The etiology is still unknown. In this article, we reported a 15-year-old female patient who presented to our clinic with a complaint of hypertrichosis on the anterior aspect of the neck for the last five years. Her past medical history revealed no pathology except for vesicoureteral reflux. On the basis of clinical presentation, our patient was diagnosed with anterior cervical hypertrichosis and she was consi

Localized Hypertrichosis Following Vaccination in an Infant.

Hypertrichosis is characterized by increased hair growth independent of androgen excess. There are various causes of acquired localized hypertrichosis including chronic irritation and inflammation. Localised hypertrichosis following pentavalent vaccine has not been described previously in Indian literature. We hereby report a case of a 4-month-old healthy infant presenting with focal circumscribed areas of hypertrichosis over anterolateral aspect of bilateral thighs at the site of vaccination.

Acquired Localized Hypertrichosis Induced by Rivastigmine.

Hypertrichosis is the excessive hair growth in any area of the skin surface. Acquired localized hypertrichosis may be secondary to multiple causes and there is a secondary form due to several drugs, which is usually reversible with discontinuation of the causative agent. Rivastigmine is a reversible and competitive inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase used for symptomatic treatment of Alzheimer dementia and Parkinson's disease. It has an adequate safety profile and cutaneous side effects are unusual. Irritant contact dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, baboon syndrome, and

Fibrous Hamartoma of Infancy: A Firm Plaque Presenting with Hypertrichosis and Hyperhidrosis.

Fibrous hamartoma of infancy (FHI) is a rare, benign, soft tissue tumor. The lesion's clinical resemblance to more aggressive soft tissue tumors of childhood makes histologic diagnosis paramount. We report a unique presentation of a FHI associated with localized hypertrichosis and hyperhidrosis.

Temporary henna tattoos and hypertrichosis: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Temporary black henna tattooing is highly popular among children and young adults in some regions. The unmonitored addition of different products to darken the color of pure henna has been the cause of many tattoo-associated dermatoses. OBSERVATION: Hypertrichosis secondary to henna pseudotattoo is a rare, newly recognized cutaneous manifestation. Only 4 case reports of henna tattooing causing localized hypertrichosis have been reported in the literature. We report a case of hypertrichosis and eczematous reaction to temporary henna tattoo. CONCLUSION: Hypertrichosis secondary to

Neonatal Hairy Ear Pinnae and Gestational Diabetes: Just a Coincidence?

A newborn girl of 36 weeks gestation was noted to have several anomalies, including bilateral low ear attachment with ear pinnae hypertrichosis, left preauricular pit, micrognathia, short lingual frenulum, and short neck. Pregnancy history revealed poorly controlled maternal gestational diabetes (GD). Localized hypertrichosis of the ear pinnae may represent a potential marker of GD and thereby alert physicians to suspect other potentially GD-associated conditions such as macrosomia, asphyxia, respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, hypocalcemia, hyperbilirubinemia, polycythemia, hypertrophic cardi

Anterior cervical hypertrichosis: a case report and review of the literature.

Anterior cervical hypertrichosis (ACH), or "hairy throat," is a rare form of localized hypertrichosis that refers to the presence of a tuft of terminal hair on the anterior neck. Only 40 cases of ACH have been reported in the literature. Although it is usually an isolated finding, it may be associated with systemic disorders such as neurologic abnormalities (peripheral neuropathy, developmental delay, mental retardation), ophthalmologic disorders (optic atrophy, chorioretinal changes), hallux valgus, and dorsal hypertrichosis. Thus it is strongly advised to take a thorough family history and t

Cast application of four weeks' duration significantly affects hair length, diameter and density.

BACKGROUND: Localized hypertrichosis following cast application has been recorded, yet no studies characterized these changes systematically. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate changes of hair length, diameter and density on the legs in patients after cast application. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with leg injuries and cast application of at least 4 weeks' duration were included in the study. Immediately after cast removal, hair sampling was taken from both legs; cast and control sides. Hair length and diameter were measured by Olympus microscope software. Patients were also analyzed for global chang

Acquired localized hypertrichosis induced by internal fixation and plaster cast application.

Hypertrichosis refers to increased vellus hair growth and is independent to androgen excess. The acquired localized hypertrichosis (ALH) is one of the typical hypertrichosis, which mainly results from chronic irritation, inflammation, friction, and occlusion by plaster of Paris. Here, we report a young boy who had ALH on his right hand following a closed fracture with internal fixation and plaster cast application. The case is unusual because the hairy area is limited to the operative region of internal fixation. We suggest that the local vascular changes and skin inflammation induced by inter

[Sporadic anterior cervical hypertrichosis].

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical hypertrichosis is a rare and little-known form of congenital localized hypertrichosis. It is characterized by the presence of a tuft of terminal hairs in the anterior cervical region. We report four typical clinical observations of this condition. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Four patients aged from 5 to 21 years were seen for a tuft of terminal long hair on the neck, next to the cricoid cartilage, recorded at birth or during early childhood. There was no indication of previous trauma or topical drug application. No similar familial history was found. In one case, histo

Portal interventions in liver transplant recipients.

West Nile virus (WNV) infection usually causes mild febrile illness, but in a small proportion of patients it can lead to encephalitis. Epidemiological studies of WNV indicate fast spread of infection worldwide and in Europe, but there have been no comprehensive studies of WNV infection among encephalitis patients in Poland. Here we present the results of WNV RNA and anti-WNV testing in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples in 80 patients with the clinical diagnosis of viral encephalitis. WNV RNA was not detected in any of the analyzed samples. Anti-WNV IgG and IgM were not present in CS

Hairy pinnae after orchiectomy and chemotherapy for testicular cancer: acquired localized hypertrichosis of the ears.

Acquired localized hypertrichosis has rarely been reported. Here, we describe a patient with localized hypertrichosis of the pinnae that occurred 4 months after orchiectomy and chemotherapy for a testicular carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first case of an acquired hypertrichosis of the pinnae after cancer therapy. We propose that in our patient either hypogonadism or the hormonal imbalance caused by the cancer therapy led to the development of the hairy pinnae, perhaps alongside a genetic predisposition for hairy ears.
