The sensitivity and specificity of Rubascan (r) (RSC), a new latex agglutination test for rubella antibodies, was compared with those of the single radial hemolysis (SRH) and hemagglutination inhibition (HI) tests. We found RSC to have a sensitivity versus SRH and HI of 90-95% and 70-72%, respectively. RSC had a specificity versus SRH and HI of 97-100% and 96-100%, respectively. A 9-year-old male with myocarditis is described. A greater than four-fold rise in titers against rubella with a subsequent fall supports the conclusion that his myocarditis was associated with rubella infection. A prospective sero-immunological enquiry of the rubella and toxoplasmosis immune status of 200 pregnant women in Casablanca (Morocco) revealed that 66,5% are immune to rubella and 51,5% are immune to toxoplasmosis. A study of antibodies against measles virus and other viral agents is made to investigate possible existence of a false measles or "measles-like" in 48 children with this disease during an epidemic. A retrospective study of 1,003 children permits us to identify precisely rates and causes of mortality in children under 5 years old in a rural holoendemic malaria area of the People's Republic of the Congo. The mortality rates are distinctly lower than those generally observed in tropical Africa. At our health care center 1161 personnel and students were offered rubella antibody testing. The results of screening for antibodies against rubella, morbilli, mumps, herpes simplex, rota and Epstein-Barr virus in serum from patients with multiple myeloma are reported. Antibodies against herpes simplex virus were found in all samples, present in high titres in most samples. Antibody titres against the other five viruses were generally low. A possible association of common virus infections and myelomatosis is discussed.

Some 800 profoundly deaf children from 4 Yoruba states in Nigeria were assessed and examined in an attempt to identify the causes of deafness in this part of West Africa. Intrathecal production of oligoclonal mumps-specific IgG was demonstrated in nine out of 10 children with mumps meningitis by imprint immunofixation (IIF) of sera and cerebrospinal fluids (CSF) separated by agarose electropheresis and by thin-layer electrofocusing.
