Association between Androgenic Hair Patterns and Prostate Cancer Risk in South Indian Men: A Case-control Study from the Cauvery Delta.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most common malignancies in men worldwide. Androgens influence both prostate growth and hair patterns. Androgenic alopecia (male-pattern baldness) and excessive male-pattern body hair (hypertrichosis) have been hypothesized as clinical markers of long-term androgen exposure. Previous Western studies have reported mixed results on whether early-onset or severe androgenic alopecia correlates with increased prostate cancer risk. Data in South Indian (Dravidian) populations is lacking. OBJECTIVE: To examine the association between androgenic hypertr

Ciclosporin-Induced Generalised Hypertrichosis in a Transgender Woman Receiving Testosterone Blockers.

Hypertrichosis is a well-documented side effect of ciclosporin, yet it is rarely encountered in dermatological practice. We present a case of hypertrichosis in a transgender woman on testosterone-blocking therapy, illustrating that ciclosporin can induce hypertrichosis even in the context of androgen suppression. A 25-year-old transgender woman with severe plaque psoriasis developed generalised hypertrichosis after commencing ciclosporin. She was concurrently taking estradiol and triptorelin as part of gender-affirming therapy. Hypertrichosis involved the arms, fingers, and face, leading to di

Heterozygous frameshift KMT2A variant in a patient with Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome.

Here we report a case of a Japanese girl with Wiedemann-Steiner syndrome carrying a novel heterozygous frameshift variant of KMT2A (NM_001197104.2:c.10123del, p.Thr3375ProfsTer7). Her clinical features included severe pre- and postnatal growth failure, global developmental delay, hypertrichosis and complete agenesis of the corpus callosum. The identified variant truncates the protein, abolishes the C-terminal SET domain required for histone methyltransferase activity, and is predicted to trigger nonsense-mediated mRNA decay, resulting in KMT2A haploinsufficiency-the primary pathogenic mechanis

Cutaneous Granular Cell Tumor with Overlying Hypertrichosis in an Adult: A Rare Case Report.

Granular cell tumors are uncommon neoplasms of neural origin that may involve the skin and often present with nonspecific clinical features, making diagnosis challenging. Cutaneous granular cell tumors rarely exhibit overlying hypertrichosis, a finding that may obscure their clinical recognition. In this report, we describe a rare case of a primary cutaneous granular cell tumor with prominent overlying terminal hair growth in an adult patient. A 27-year-old woman presented with a slowly enlarging, firm, pigmented plaque on the upper back associated with pruritus and increased hair growth. Hist

Low-Dose Oral Minoxidil Improves Hairline and Eyebrow Coverage in Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia: A Prospective Study.

INTRODUCTION: Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) is a primary lymphocytic scarring alopecia that commonly presents with frontotemporal hairline recession and eyebrow loss. While most treatments aim to control inflammation and stop disease progression, low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) has been proposed to enhance coverage of remaining hairs and improve cosmetic outcomes. METHODS: In this prospective study, adult women with biopsy-proven FFA received oral minoxidil 1 mg/day for 6 months. Standardized photographs and trichoscopy images were obtained at baseline and after treatment and blindly evalua

Congenital hypothyroidism with preserved fifth digits in SMARCA4-related Coffin-Siris syndrome: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Coffin-Siris syndrome (CSS) is an uncommon genetic condition that is generally associated with developmental delay, craniofacial dysmorphism, hypertrichosis, and hypoplasia or aplasia of the fifth digit. Genetic variations in genes that encode components of the SWI/SNF chromatin-remodeling complex, such as SMARCA4, are known to cause CSS with variable phenotype expression. The expanded use of genotype-first methods has contributed to the broadening of the awareness of non-classical presentations. CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a case of a 10-year-old girl who presented for genetic e

Targeted transferosomal delivery of cetirizine: A new approach to alopecia management.

INTRODUCTION: Androgenetic alopecia is common in males and females; its prevalence increases with age. It affects the social life of individuals worldwide. The main problem associated with conventional minoxidil treatment is the risk of facial hypertrichosis. Cetirizine (CET), an antihistamine, may induce hair growth by increasing prostaglandin E2 expression. Therefore, Objectives: This study aimed to incorporate several CET formulations into transferosomes (TFS) and determine their optimal physicochemical properties. The optimal formulation was evaluated for its growth-promoting potential in

INTRODUCTION: Vitiligo is a chronic autoimmune skin disorder characterized by loss of melanocytes, leading to depigmented patches. Although not associated with physical morbidity, its appearance causes significant psychological distress, especially in dark-skinned individuals. Tacrolimus, a topical calcineurin inhibitor, is first-line treatment for localized, stable vitiligo. However, bimatoprost, a prostaglandin analog known for its melanin-stimulating activity, is emerging as a potential alternative. OBJECTIVES: PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To compare the efficacy of topical bimatoprost 0.03% ophthal

Cetuximab-induced Facial Hypertrichosis in a Woman Treated for Metastatic Colon Adenocarcinoma.

The use of anti-epidermal growth factor receptor antibodies, such as cetuximab, is a standard part of the management of metastatic colorectal and head and neck cancers, as they inhibit tumor proliferation. Their side effects include cutaneous complications such as skin rash, hypertrichosis, and male pattern alopecia. We report a case of a middle-aged woman who developed hypertrichosis following six cycles of cetuximab treatment with a hirsutism-related hormone profile.
