Safety and immunogenicity of the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine in immunocompromised children with inflammatory bowel disease, or after liver transplantation: An observational study.

Safety of live vaccines is questioned in children with inflammatory bowel diseases and after liver transplantation receiving immunosuppressive therapy. The objective was to monitor the immunogenicity and safety of attenuated live vaccines against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) in children receiving immunosuppressive therapy. In this prospective multicenter observational study (DRKS00014569) 22 children and adolescents with incomplete MMR vaccination status were identified. Following individual assessment of vaccination readiness with stable immunosuppressive therapy in the last three months

Seroprotection against hepatitis B, measles, mumps, and rubella in children with diabetes.

Vaccine-preventable diseases (VPD) account for a major proportion of childhood morbidity and mortality in developing countries. This study aimed to evaluate the seroprotection status of common VPD in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). The study enrolled 38 children aged 3-18 years with T1DM and 40 age-and sex-matched healthy controls. Demographic and clinical parameters were recorded. Venous blood samples were collected to estimate glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and antibody titers against hepatitis B and measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). Both groups had completed immunization for th

Mumps Encephalitis in a Measles Rubella (MR)-Vaccinated Child: A Rare but Preventable Complication.

Mumps is a vaccine-preventable disease caused by the mumps virus, mainly affecting the salivary glands. It can cause serious complications, including mumps encephalitis. Despite widespread immunization practices, mumps outbreaks persist among both vaccinated and unvaccinated populations, raising issues of concern regarding herd immunity. Mumps encephalitis, although rare, can produce serious complications warranting prompt diagnosis and management. Here, in this case report, we present a five-year-old girl who presented with fever, bilateral parotid swelling, and a single episode of abnormal m

Challenging 21-day quarantine guidelines for mumps in Beijing: Data-driven recommendations for a high-coverage MMR vaccination era (2019-2024).

Mumps is a vaccine-preventable disease. Following Beijing's implementation of a three-dose MMR vaccination strategy, incidence rates declined significantly. However, the current 21-d quarantine period lacks evidence-based support, resulting in low compliance and conflicts between healthcare providers and patients. This study analyzed 2019-2024 surveillance data to characterize mumps in the vaccine era through viral shedding detection. Study participants were NNDRS-reported mumps cases with both registered and collective residences in Beijing's Chaoyang District, who signed informed consent for

Understanding measles infection and how to improve uptake of the MMR vaccine.

Measles is a highly infectious, notifiable, viral disease that is commonly contracted in childhood and associated with a characteristic rash. Most children and young people who contract measles make a full recovery, but measles infection is associated with rare but serious complications in vulnerable groups, such young infants, immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent measles infection, but uptake of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine in the UK has fallen short of the vaccine coverage required to provide herd immunity and prev

Gene Expression Factors Associated with Rubella-Specific Humoral Immunity After a Third MMR Vaccine Dose.

Rubella is typically a mild viral illness, but it can lead to severe complications when contracted during pregnancy, such as pregnancy loss or developmental defects in the fetus (congenital rubella syndrome). Therefore, it is crucial to develop and maintain protective immunity in women of childbearing age. In this study, we assessed the transcriptional factors associated with rubella-specific immune outcomes (IgG binding antibody and avidity, neutralizing antibody, and memory B cell ELISpot response) following a third MMR vaccine dose in women of reproductive age to identify key factors/signat

Serologic screening for anti-rubella immunoglobulin G antibodies in Romanian pregnant women: an unexpected rate of seronegativity.

OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the risk of rubella infection among pregnant women in Romania. METHODS: Serologic testing was conducted between 2022 and 2023 in 1,279 women to determine the presence of specific anti-rubella immunoglobulin (Ig)G antibodies using the Elecsys rubella IgG assay designed for Cobas e 411 analyzers. RESULTS: The overall seroprevalence of IgG antibodies was 87.02%, indicating protective immunity developed after past infection or vaccination. However, in 12.98% of the pregnant women, anti-rubella antibodies were not detected. Pregnant women aged 12-19 years, who shou

Molecular diagnostics in cancer patients with suspected respiratory mold infections.

Invasive fungal infections (IFIs), including aspergillosis and mucormycosis, are serious complications in cancer patients. Reliable detection of etiologic agents is challenging but important for optimal patient management. In a prospective multicenter study, we compared fungal detection by culture, specific and unspecific qPCRs, and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) targeting Aspergillus and Mucorales in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and serum of adult cancer patients with suspected fungal pneumonia. In subgroups of patients, fungal DNA was amplified from serum. We evaluated 210

[Recommendations for clinical practice: Prevention and management of varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection during pregnancy and the perinatal period (extended version)].

The Société de Pathologie Infectieuse de Langue Française released in 2024 a new national recommendation for clinical practice on the prevention and management of varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection during pregnancy and the perinatal period. The previous recommendation was issued in 1998, at a time of anti-VZV immunoglobulins shortage; it has hence become obsolete. This recommendation is a formalized expert consensus focusing on infectious diseases management; it is drawn up by a multidisciplinary working group (infectiologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, microbiologists, midwives, hygie
