Steatocystoma multiplex (SM) and eruptive vellus hair cysts (EVHC) are relatively rare, benign tumours of the pilosebaceous unit. SM and EVHC are distinct entities with comparable clinical characteristics but significant histological distinctions. We report a case of a young male patient in his 20s who presented with multiple, asymptomatic raised skin lesions over the front and back of the trunk. A provisional diagnosis of SM was made clinically, but histopathology revealed features of both SM and EVHC, confirming the dual nature of the lesions.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Clitoral cysts are a rare cause of clitoromegaly in the female pediatric population, with the majority of reported cases linked to trauma or genital mutilation. The epidermoid subtype is the most common histological type, and surgical excision is generally the preferred treatment. This case is unique as it represents the first reported instance of a clitoral cyst in a pediatric patient undergoing chemotherapy for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). We highlight the importance of early surgical intervention in immunocompromised patients and add to the limited litera

BACKGROUND: Cylindroma is a benign adnexal tumor mostly found on the scalp or face. They present as pink to purple, smooth-surfaced, solitary or multiple nodular lesions, mostly affecting middle-aged and elderly women. Reports of solitary cylindromas occurring in other anatomical locations are rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present a unique case of a 56-year-old Arab male patient with a solitary, large, non-ulcerated cylindroma on the left-sided neck. The lesion had progressively enlarged since childhood, with worsening symptoms such as pain and a burning sensation over the last 2 years. A secon

Epidermal cysts (ECs) are the most common type of epithelial cyst. On ultrasound, ECs typically exhibit peripheral shadowing and posterior acoustic enhancement. However, their internal echogenicity varies, and the factors influencing these sonographic features remain largely unknown. Objectives: To identify factors associated with each ultrasound feature of ECs based on review of medical records and ultrasound findings of histologically confirmed EC patients. We reviewed ultrasound findings from 55 histologically confirmed EC cases. The cohort included 34 male patients, the mean age for all pa

Epidermoid bone cysts are rare, unilocular, and slow growing. They develop by the accumulation of ectodermal remnants, and they may be congenital or acquired. The most common locations for these bone cysts are the distal phalanges, followed by the skull. This paper documents an adult male from the Islamic (twelfth and thirteen centuries CE) burial site of Ibi in the Province of Alicante, southeast Spain. This individual had a cranial lesion in the form of a roughly elliptical hole in the posterior fossa (left occipital region). The lesion was examined macroscopically and using X-ray photograph

OBJECTIVE(S): Despite advancements in imaging techniques and cytological analysis, plunging ranula remains a challenging surgical, radiologic, and pathologic phenomenon. Of the 18 patients we evaluated at our institution, we highlight three cases that illustrate the high rate of misleading imaging and cytological results when assessing plunging ranula.
METHODS: Imaging results, biopsy findings, operative techniques, and pathological reports were reviewed from patients who had either a preoperative or postoperative diagnosis of ranula and underwent surgery by a single head and neck surgeon at

BACKGROUND: Pilomatricoma has various manifestations on color Doppler ultrasound, and a differential diagnosis is challenging. The objective of this study was to investigate which characteristics of skin lesions on color Doppler ultrasound are effective in distinguishing pilomatricoma from epidermoid cyst and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Records of patients with pilomatricomas (n = 63), epidermoid cysts (n = 76), and dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (n = 19) who underwent color Doppler ultrasound evaluation and surgical excision were reviewed. The anatomical distribu

PURPOSE: Epidermoid cysts (EC) and dermoid cysts (DC) typically appear as well-circumscribed lesions on CT. This study aimed to clarify the radiologic and histopathologic characteristics of orbital EC and DC and to determine the correlations between them.
METHODS: The medical records of 69 patients who underwent surgery for orbital DC or EC at Samsung Medical Center between January 2001 and August 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. The size and location of the cysts, rim enhancement, homogeneity of contents, presence of hemorrhagic or calcific components, radiodensity of contents, and extent

BACKGROUND: A peri-implant cystic lesion is a rare finding, and to date most investigators have considered that its pathogenesis is caused by trauma and infection related to dental implantation. However, the pathogenesis of these cysts remains unclear and is recognized to have multifactorial origins.
CASE PRESENTATION: In February 2021, a 75-year-old male patient underwent implant restoration due to mobility of the left maxillary central incisor. The implant achieved good osseointegration and was successfully restored. However, in March 2023, the patient sought treatment due to mobility of th

RATIONALE: Epidermoid cyst (EC) is a common clinical condition and it can be filled with keratinized material. EC often represents painless, slow progressive growth, and single cyst. The cyst is usually 1 to 5 cm in size. Giant epidermoid cysts on the buttock area are extremely rare, and reports of giant epidermoid double cysts on the buttock are even rarer.
PATIENT CONCERNS: This paper reports a patient with a painless mass was on the left buttock.
DIAGNOSIS: A giant epidermoid double cysts with infection in a left buttock paranal location.
INTERVENTIONS: The mass was surgically removed.

BACKGROUND: Gigantic epidermal cysts (GECs) are rare benign skin appendicular tumours also known as keratinocysts. GECs have a high incidence and their wall is made up of epidermis. Epidermal cysts can occur in any part of the skin; clinical manifestations include skin colour hemispherical swelling; cystic; mobile; 0.5 cm to several centimetres in diameter; and slow growth.
CASE SUMMARY: Herein, we report a case involving a 56-year-old female with a GEC in the occipitalia. On July 25, 2023, a patient with a GEC was admitted to the neurosurgery Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of X

Epidermoid cysts are infrequent, benign, slow-growing, space-occupying lesions that account for 0.5-1.8% of primary intracranial tumors. We report the case of a 17-month-old child who presented in 2015 for one episode of pallor associated with hypotonia. Epilepsy was excluded and MRI was recommended. The MRI was performed and there were no focal parenchymal lesions, but it showed an extra-axial ovoid lesion with imaging characteristics consistent with epidermoid cyst. Follow-up MRI at one year was performed and it showed minimal increased in dimensions of the cyst, without changes into the sig

BACKGROUND: Management of interhemispheric pathologies requires surgical intervention through a restricted anatomical corridor ensconced within critical cerebral structures. The use of retractors to facilitate operative access may cause damage to cerebral tissue. The development of an innovative retraction technique designed to alleviate cerebral damage in such cases is imperative. In this study, we present a novel and gentle retraction method to facilitate the interhemisferic approach.
METHODS: We retrospectively examined data of 9 right-handed patients who underwent surgical resection of in

Epidermoid cysts are benign lesions most commonly found in the skin but which can arise in many other locations including, very rarely the salivary glands. This rarity often leaves them off standard differential lists and can create a diagnostic dilemma. A patient with an incidentally detected parotid mass on MRI underwent core biopsy, which was unfortunately complicated by formation of a pseudoaneurysm and persistent arterial bleeding requiring coil embolisation. The histology showed only keratinous material and, in retrospect, the signal characteristics of the mass were entirely typical of a

BACKGROUND: Intracranial epidermoid cysts are rare, benign tumors. Nevertheless, the microsurgical removal of these cysts is challenging. This is due to their capacity to adhere to the neurovascular tissue, as well as the associated difficulties in microsurgically peeling off their capsular wall hidden in dead angles. To better understand the rate of recurrence after surgical intervention, we have performed preoperative and postoperative volumetric analysis of epidermoid cysts, allowing the estimation of their growth rate after resection.
METHODS: Imaging data from 22 patients diagnosed and s

Lymphoepithelial cyst(LEC)of the pancreas is a relatively rare benign cystic disease of the pancreas. In this report, we describe a case of LEC in which a malignant tumor could not be ruled out by preoperative diagnosis and surgery was performed. The patient was a 72-year-old man. A simple CT scan of the chest and abdomen performed as a follow-up for another disease incidentally revealed a mass in the pancreatic tail. Enhanced CT of the abdomen showed a tumor approximately 3 cm in size at the pancreatic tail with no contrast effect. MRCP showed moderate signal on T2WI, high signal on T1WI, and

An 82-year-old woman presented with a 6-month history of an enlarging brow mass that developed after trauma. Clinical and MRI appearance of the lesion appeared consistent with epidermal inclusion cyst. However, excisional biopsy demonstrated invasive squamous cell carcinoma, which recurred 6 weeks later and required repeat surgical excision. To our knowledge, this represents the first case of squamous cell carcinoma arising from a posttraumatic epidermal inclusion cyst.
