Background: The umbilicus is a fibrous remnant located in the centre of the abdomen. Various entities may be encountered in this special anatomical location; however, little is known about their dermoscopic presentation. The aim of this study was to provide a comprehensive summary of existing evidence on dermoscopic features of umbilical lesions. Methods: Studies assessing dermoscopic images of umbilical lesions were included in this study. No age, ethnicity or skin phototype restrictions were applied. Papers assessing lesions outside of the umbilical area, lacking dermoscopic images and/or de

Sebaceous cysts are a prevalent form of benign cutaneous cysts that often manifest as epidermal cysts when their size exceeds 5 cm in diameter. Despite their infrequent occurrence, cases of massive epidermal cysts measuring 5 cm or larger have been documented. Malignant transformations within epidermal cysts are exceedingly rare but not impossible. Although their development into malignancies is a rare event, it is essential to acknowledge the potential for benign epidermal cysts to undergo such transformation. In clinical terminology, these cysts predominantly affect the facial, cervical, and

An 8-year-old neutered male shih tzu dog underwent laparotomy for cystolithectomy. Ten days later, multiple various-sized cystic nodules were observed on the suture line and surrounding abdominal skin, although the surgical incision had healed well. Microscopically, various-sized cysts lined with thin walls of stratified squamous epithelium in the dermis were dilated and filled with keratin. Adnexal differentiation from the wall was not seen. Thus, the abdominal lesions were diagnosed as comedones and epidermal cysts. Herein, we describe the case of a dog with comedones and epidermal cysts on

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Epidermoid cysts also known as epidermal inclusion cysts are the most common type of cutaneous cysts. These are derived from ectoderm with a lining of stratified squamous epithelium. Penile epidermoid cysts however are very rare. We report a case of Fifteen years old male with complain of slow growing mass at ventral aspect of shaft of penis along with urethrocutaneous fistula following hypospadias surgery. Surgical excision was done of the cyst. Histopathology of the sample revealed an epidermoid cyst.

BACKGROUND: Pediatric intraspinal epidermoid cysts are rare with potential to cause life-altering outcomes if not addressed. Reports to date describe symptomatic presentations including loss of bladder or bowel function and motor and sensory losses. This case report identifies the diagnostic challenge of an asymptomatic intraspinal epidermoid cyst in the cauda equina region presenting in a 7-year-old male with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).
DIAGNOSIS: An advanced physiotherapist practitioner assessed and diagnosed a previously healthy 7-year-old-male of South Asian descent with JIA base

Retroperitoneal cysts (RPCs) are rare types of cyst in the retroperitoneal space that are frequently misdiagnosed as gynecological tumors. This case report details, an epidermoid RPC, identified through 2D ultrasound, with attempts to visualize its rendered images using 3D ultrasound. A 39-year-old female patient was admitted to the hospital following the detection of a pelvic mass during a routine physical examination. Initially, the lesion was suspected to be an ovarian tumor, but subsequent ultrasound investigations suggested an epidermoid RPC. This diagnosis was later confirmed by pelvic m

Epidermal cysts are among the most common benign subcutaneous tumors. However, malignant transformation of benign epidermal cysts into squamous carcinomas has been reported. Owing to its low incidence rate, the clinical and pathological features of this condition are not well understood. This study aimed to analyze the clinical and pathological characteristics of the malignant transformation of epidermal cysts, which could suggest an appropriate treatment strategy. We conducted a retrospective study of 9 patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma arising from epidermal cysts. All patients

In recent years, endoscopy has become an increasingly common tool used during neurosurgical procedures. However, its application in treating cerebellopontine angle (CPA) lesions has not progressed as rapidly. In this study, the authors present their initial experience with surgically treating CPA lesions using a fully endoscopic keyhole retrosigmoid approach. They conducted a retrospective analysis of clinical data from patients who underwent endoscopic keyhole CPA surgery at their center between May 2017 and April 2022. They provide a comprehensive explanation of this method and an overview o

A 90-year-old Japanese woman who had been aware of a subcutaneous mass on the right perineal region for 5 years was referred to our hospital for further examination and treatment because of the rapid growth of the mass and bleeding that began 3 months earlier. A biopsy of the mass revealed a diagnosis of well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. On preoperative examination, the tumor was 90×40 mm in size and was suspected to have partially invaded the levator ani muscle and external sphincter. Since a preoperative cardiac evaluation indicated severe aortic stenosis, we performed transcathet

Primary cutaneous mucinous carcinoma (PCMC) is a rare malignancy of the sweat glands that most commonly affects the periorbital area. It is characterized by slow growth over a prolonged period, and its morphology can be easily confused with a benign tumor, such as an epidermal cyst. Consequently, many patients experience recurrence after undergoing multiple resections. However, there are few reports concerning the surgical management of PCMC. We present two cases of PCMC originating in the periorbital area. The first case involved a 76-year-old man with a mass measuring 3.0× 1.5 cm that had be

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Intracranial epidermoids temporal bone cholesteatomas, and head and neck epidermal inclusion cysts are typically slow-growing, benign conditions arising from ectodermal tissue. They exhibit increased signal on DWI. While much of the imaging literature describes these lesions as showing diffusion restriction, we investigated these qualitative signal intensities and interpretations of restricted diffusion with respect to normal brain structures. This study aimed to quantitatively evaluate the ADC values and histogram features of these lesions.

INTRODUCTION: Epidermoid cyst in an intrapancreatic accessory spleen (ECIPAS) is an exceedingly rare pancreatic lesion that is always mistakenly suspected of malignancy preoperatively.
CASE SUMMARY: A 25-year-old male patient incidentally found a giant mass in the left upper abdomen neighboring the hilum of the spleen. The patient denied any obvious discomfort. Except for a slightly elevated carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA-19-9, 43.5 U/mL), no abnormal laboratory test results were found. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography, conventional ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging were performe
