Miliaria crystallina secondary to herbal remedies-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis: A case report.

Miliaria crystallina is a skin disorder that often erupts in the process of febrile diseases or under hot and humid climatic conditions. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare, acute, and life-threatening mucocutaneous disease with a mortality rate of 25-35%. There has been no inevitable connection between the two diseases among previously reported cases, but we observed a case of secondary miliaria crystallina a woman with herbal remedies-induced TEN during the therapeutic process.

[Widespread miliaria crystallina: about a case].

Prickly heat is a benign cutaneous manifestation due to the obstruction of the sweat ducts following excessive exposure to heat, humidity or hyperthermia. We report the case of a 70-year old diabetic female patient treated with insulin, hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit due to acidocetosic coma secondary to pyelonephritis. The patient had diffuse clear vesicular lesions spread all over the body,(a) firm to palpation, on a healthy skin, suggesting miliaria crystallina. Miliaria crystallina is a benign cutaneous manifestation due to sweat retention secondary to obstruction of the sweat duc

A cross-sectional prospective study of cutaneous lesions in newborn.

Background. Cutaneous alterations are common in neonates. The majority of lesions are physiological, transient, or self-limited and require no therapy. Although much has been reported on the various disorders peculiar to the skin of infant, very little is known about variations and activity of the skin in neonates. Objective. To study the various pattern of skin lesions in newborn and to estimate the prevalence of physiological and pathological skin lesions in newborn. Methods. A total of 1000 newborns were examined in a hospital-based, cross-sectional prospective study in the period of Novemb

Congenital miliaria crystallina - A diagnostic dilemma.

Miliaria crystallina is a transient, superficial obstruction of eccrine sweat ducts resulting in rapidly evolving noninflammatory vesicles. The disease is observed frequently in hot, humid, tropical climates and in the neonatal period, most likely due to lack of maturation of the sweat duct during the first few days following birth. It is rarely present at delivery and remains a diagnostic dilemma for the neonatologists. We report a rare case of "Congenital miliaria crystallina" that was present at birth.

Widespread miliaria crystallina in a newborn with hypernatremic dehydration.

Miliaria, which is extravasation of sweat into the epidermis and dermis due to sweat duct obstruction, is a commonly seen dermatologic disorder in newborns. We present a case of extensive, widespread miliaria crystallina that developed in a newborn during treatment of severe hypernatremic dehydration. A possible mechanism could be the destruction of sweat ducts with excretion of sweat with high levels of sodium.

Congenital miliaria crystallina in a term neonate born to a mother with chorioamnionitis.

Miliaria crystallina (MC) is a self-limiting, superficial obstruction of the eccrine sweat ducts with subsequent extravasation of sweat, resulting in rapidly surfacing, tiny, clear, noninflammatory vesicles. The disease is seen frequently in hot, humid, tropical climates and in the neonatal period, but congenital occurrence is rare. We report a case of congenital MC in a baby born to a mother with chorioamnionitis.

Incidence of Vesicobullous and Erosive Disorders of Neonates: Where and How Much to Worry?

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the incidence of dermatoses in neonates, stress the importance of simple noninvasive diagnostic procedures with perspective to actual need of active intervention. METHODS: Forty four neonates with vesicobullous lesions in Departments of Dermatology and Pediatrics were evaluated with respect to diagnosis, required treatments and follow ups. RESULTS: Of the total 44 neonates, 29 were boys and 15 girls. Low birth weight (weight at birth less than 2,500 g as per WHO criteria) was seen in 19 neonates. Of the infectious dermatoses, most common were pyodermas. Four cases (9%)

Miliaria-rash after neutropenic fever and induction chemotherapy for acute myelogenous leukemia.

Miliaria is a disorder of the eccrine sweat glands which occurs in conditions of increased heat and humidity. It can be associated with persistent febrile states as well as with certain drugs. We presented a 40 year-old female with myelodysplastic syndrome and progression to acute myelogenous leukemia who was admitted to the hospital for chemotherapy induction. The patient was treated with idarubicin and cytarabine. She became pancytopenic and developed neutropenic fever and was started on vancomycin and cefepime, but was persistently febrile with night sweats. Five days into her fevers, she d

Pruritus, papules, and perspiration.

BACKGROUND: The development of pruritus and papules with increased body temperature is a common clinical scenario seen in allergy practice, often leading to a diagnosis of cholinergic urticaria. OBJECTIVE: To describe an unusual case of miliaria and its significance in the evaluation of patients with pruritic papular eruptions that occur with increased body temperature. METHODS: An 18-year-old woman was referred to a local allergist for the evaluation of cholinergic urticaria. For the preceding 6 months, she had experienced a facial burning sensation along with diffuse pruritus accompanied b

Rare skin disorder complicating doxorubicin therapy: miliaria crystallina.

Miliaria is a self-resolving disorder of the eccrine sweat glands caused by blockage of the sweat ducts resulting in the leakage of eccrine sweat into epidermis or dermis. In addition to known predisposing factors such as heat, humidity, and fever, a few drugs (eg, isotretinoin and bethanechol) can also precipitate miliaria. We present here a case of miliaria crystallina that developed in a 65-year-old patient on the fifth day after administration of doxorubicin for multiple myeloma in the absence of known predisposing factors. Miliaria crystallina resolved in 3 days without any complications.

Congenital miliaria crystallina: case report and literature review.

Generalized congenital miliaria crystallina occurred in a black newborn boy. Although miliaria crystallina occurring in infancy and beyond is well established, congenital occurrence is very rare. The pathogenesis of the disorder is not well understood. We discuss some hypotheses of pathogenesis in the context of our patient, as well as a differential diagnosis and a comparison with a previously reported case. Miliaria crystallina should be considered in the differential diagnosis of vesiculobullous eruptions in newborns.

Congenital miliaria crystallina.

Miliaria crystallina is characterized by intracorneal or subcorneal, 1 to 2 mm, clear, noninflammatory vesicles that typically appear in crops after a severe sunburn or during a febrile illness. They frequently occur in neonates, most likely due to lack of maturation of the sweat duct during the first few days following birth, but are rarely present at delivery. We describe here a patient with extensive miliaria crystallina that was present at birth and review possible theories of the pathogenesis of these lesions.

Manganese balance and clinical observations in young men fed a manganese-deficient diet.

A balance study was conducted to determine the minimum requirement for manganese (Mn) and to examine the effects of Mn depletion. Seven male subjects, age 19-22, were fed a Mn-adequate diet of conventional foods (2.59 mg Mn/d, 135 mg cholesterol, and P:S ratio of 0.86) for 3 wk to establish base-line data. Then a purified diet containing 0.11 mg Mn/d was fed for 39 d (depletion), followed by two 5-d periods of 1.53 and 2.55 mg Mn/d (repletion). Diets, feces, urine, and integument were analyzed for Mn, and blood was analyzed for Mn, cholesterol, and other constituents. Plasma levels of choleste
